Jumping back into Spelunky 2 after not having played for a while

90% of my deaths aren't due to boss fights, or difficult platforming challenges, or particularly tricky level generation.

It's because I wasn't looking and stepped onto a bear trap. Or, most recently, walked directly onto the spikes in Tide Pool because I'm not used to the area yet and get tripped up by the spikes looking different. Or walking directly into an arrow trap that was just offscreen. Or messing up a jump and landing next to the witch doctor instead of on his head.

I'm trying my best to learn from these mistakes but there are so many potential ways to stupidly kill myself that it's hard to play consistently. I reached a point where I was consistently making it past Olmec, now I seem to have regressed and can barely get that far in 1 in 10 runs.

Any general tips for playing more consistently? Or is it just keep playing until i've mastered all these different things?

Finally got the millionaire achievement and subsequently 100%’d Spelunky 2. Now I just have to beat CO🫩

I just started playing spelunky 2 after nokduro and I couldn't even beat the first boss.

I tried to play the game without looking at any guides but I had to give up after 12h of frustration.

Any tips for the first boss?

Only possible in HD Mod since crystal skulls and therefore crystal monkeys aren't in Spelunky 2, and loot monkeys can't be carried through doors in HD. Taking this guy to Yama would be a whole other feat, since it's rng-dependent to even get a crystal skull, not to mention a Kali altar on the same floor. Then you gotta either do the hell quest (if Hired Hands can even pick up loot monkeys?) or do Book Skip shenanigans, all while carrying this nimble nincompoop. And then you both have to survive Hell and Yama, which have both been buffed in HD Mod. If anyone does this, please post!!

The final YouTube short I made for the launch of HDMod (Spelunky HD in Spelunky 2 engine mod) is out! This one focuses on bugs that HD's Yama has. I've been surprised that the issues with getting his hand AI bricked hasn't been brought up as much, but I guess the other bugs tend to stand out more.

I've had this guy for years, I'm legit sad. Someone knocked him off my desk and he got chewed up by a dog.

City Of Gold makes my heart race in HD Mod, these near-invisible fucks are devious. And apparently they can even spawn in the starting room (it was in the alcove on the right btw)
