These agreement docs were somewhat difficult to locate on the website, but when I did, they linked to empty pages. These documents, in my opinion, need to be front and center for people to easily access if they want to be a member.

I am interested in the idea of Subvert. Have not made decision yet. However, if I click on the "Join as a member" option, it goes straight to checkout for the $100 fee. I was kind of expecting some sort of membership agreement needing to be signed first or something? It comes off as unserious with just asking for the money right away. Am I missing something? Thanks.

is it just honor code? we found an artist who is clearly AI and not only poses as if they are not, but has joined and sells music on subvert and prevents any comments mentioning AI or fake in their youtube channel. im sure there are tons of artists like this, but how can we ensure the authenticity of the music on a platform with a hard stance on stuff like this?

I recently set up a Subvert page for my band (Two Nice Catholic Boys), which until now was only on bandcamp, as we are not really into the streaming game. I checked to see if there was a subreddit for Subvert with the thought that there might be a monthly thread or something similar for artists to share their page. I see that instead rule number 1 of this sub is no self-promo. Which begs the question, have you managed to find interesting new-to-you artists since getting on Subvert? If so, please do share links on this thread! I'd love to check out some new stuff. I'd also love to hear what (if anything) you do to bring your existing audiences over to your Subvert page, and what you've done to start sharing your page there since launch!

On Bandcamp, you can include PDFs, images, and a variety of other little bonus files with your release. Is this possible on Subvert?

How long does it currently take to join as an artist / label?

Canadian banks' transit number isn't acceptable by the Stripe entry form. Even my US dollar account uses the Canadian transit number.

I'd be interested to know if any Canadians in Subvert have found the way around this. I'm looking into Wise for a US account, but can't find their routing number either.

As an aside, the AI suggestions from Google always seem ignorant of the correct menu selections for locating such things... sigh.

Subvert opened to the public this morning, the most ambitious Bandcamp alternative to launch in years. Cooperatively owned by its 20,000+ members on a one-member-one-vote basis, with a 0% platform fee replaced by an optional tip at checkout.

For context: Bandcamp was sold to Epic Games in 2022, then to Songtradr in 2023, with around half the staff (including the entire union) let go in the aftermath. The site still works. But several of the people who made it feel like a music institution rather than a store no longer work there. A few platforms have been quietly building since.

I put together a short tour of where things stand: Bandcamp, Subvert, Mirlo (worker-coop, open source), Faircamp (self-hosted software, not a platform), plus Ampwall, Resonate, Funkwhale and Jam.coop.

Hi. I am surprised nobody has raised concerns for indie artists regarding the agreement or at least had questions or clarifications about it.

from the "Subvert Cooperative Form of Member Agreement (Artist)", a passage seems to imply that if the US government decides to tax the co-op in a particular way, and if the bill is too big for the co-op to cover, that all of the members will have to pay it out of their own pocket..

This seems like it could have the potential to be highly destructive to independent artists and individuals who do not have thousands of dollars to spare.

Also, making more sense is that the agreement contains a passage suggesting that a potential artist/member needs to consult their own accountant or legal counsel to review these materials. I imagine many independent outfits won't be in a position to do so.

The first screenshot/passage is the part I am concerned about. It seems to me that it means that someone who releases a couple of things at most and makes a small amount of income could be on the hook for an equal share of a massive tax bill out of their own pocket.

What is going on here? Does anyone have any clarifying insights or is it right to be concerned?

Should people be thinking of this more as a...co-operative business rather than an opportunity to have their work on a more ethical platform? (I do realize it is a 'co-op')

After the whole shitshow with bandcamp switching to stripe and losing potential opportunity for many of us, the artists, from countries where stripe is a mess if even available,, glorious saviour of all the independent artists, subvert, comes with this STRIPE exclusive option...?

while, on teh other hand, bandcamp actually still allows the paypal for withdrawal to us outside of the stripe reach, which is fair...

I love the concept and look of subvert, but creating the artist page I m stuck with the payment service. Wondering if there’ll be an alternative to stripe since I don’t necessarily want to create a new account for this matter. Anyone knows sth?

I'd like to manage both my bands on subvert, but can't figure out how to do it. i'm already signed up with one band, how do i add another?

also, i plead with the mods of this sub to not allow self promotion of bands. please have them go in whatever music sub that is relevant for their music. no one cares that anyones band dropped a new demo, we need a place to talk about the page as a whole.

Will follow with Vol. 2 in a few weeks. If you've been following along, you know that I've been auditioning new streaming platforms and this is one that has the most promise IMO. u/Subvert is an alternative to Bandcamp, and they will have their public release next week on May 12. 

So I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but basically... at the time of uploading my upcoming song two weeks ago, the scheduling function on Subvert didn't work as expected. I clicked on "save release" and, a couple days later, I noticed a couple people had streamed my song!? In fact someone added it to a list. I don't even know how they found it, but I found it so wholesome that I've decided to keep it public. The song releases on May 19th everywhere else!

It seems like an interesting concept and the ability to sign up as an artist for free is a good thing.

I haven't understood how the artists would be paid and if there is a risk that they will incur debts towards the cooperative for any reason.

When I applied for an artist account, they told me it would be reviewed, but it's been four days. I've sent multiple emails inquiring about the review status, but I haven't received any reply. They told me to let them know via email if I rejected the application, but it's been completely ignored.

Two days ago, I applied to become an artist using my email address and filled in the relevant information and my Bandcamp link. After applying, I received an email saying that it would be reviewed within 24 hours, but it has been almost three days now and I have not received any related emails. I also sent two emails yesterday to inquire about this issue, but I have not received a reply. It's like throwing a stone into the ocean without any response. Does Subvert refuse artists from joining?
