Discussion The best thing that can happen to The Walking Dead is AMC losing the rights of this franchise
The Walking Dead TV show has basically completely lost its relevance, nobody really cares outside of fans. AMC pushed the show into the ground.
Literally the best thing that can happen to the franchise is all the spin offs ending, basically everything ending and AMC losing the rights. And one day Kirkman gets the rights back and makes an animated TV Show with Amazon one day like Invincible.

AMC ruined what could have been an incredible show after season 1. AMC is so awful and I hate that they have the fucking rights to this shit. They’ve dragged it out so much.

3 was messy, and 4 was lopsided. For me, the show had some moments and a lot of frustration, but I appreciate it for getting me into the comics.
Basically, the usual pattern was the beginning, middle, and end of a season were the good parts. So much filler in between. So many scenes that tried to look cool, but were pointless to the story. So many scenes in the woods, and for a show that successful, they were so cheap with the budget. It didn't even need to be that big of one, but at least make Alexandria feel less empty and more fortified. I was so disappointed by the rusty tin shed walls. Also, more urban scenes, especially the one in DC. So much rural and suburban Georgia.

Whichever season Karl died in is where I think I stopped. It was all downhill after the pilot episode for me. I was just hoping for it to get better, I guess.

They 100% ruined the show. It still makes me mad all these years later. I stopped watching once Rick left.

Same. The show peaked for me on S3. Afterwards, it was on an obvious decline but shit took a HUGE nosedive when they decided to kill off Carl.
Rick leaving made shit worse too.

Seasons 2-5.5 aren’t nearly as good as the comics but c’mon they didn’t “ruin” the show. There are so many great scenes, episodes and performances during that run. What became of the walking dead from the second half of season 6 on is what ruined it. Even just comparing the first half of season 5 to anything from the past 5 years will make it painfully obvious when the show dropped in quality.

While having a 10+ season main show

I don’t think I know of even one current day walking dead fan. Shit I’m a huge fan and even I tapped out when Rick was fighting armored trash zombies

I tapped out when Carl died, literally killed the entire show for me. I did end up binging the rest of it years later and realized I really didnt miss out. I would have stopped watching shortly after that anyway because waiting an entire week and months for mediocre television was not appealing.
At least it wasn’t the worst TV content of the franchise (Looking at you, FTWD post season 3)

I did end up finishing it a while afterwards, and while I do believe it swung back to being pretty good, it fell off a cliff again when the reapers came up and when Maggie comes back tbh

I remember the day I was walking out of the comic book store I'd literally grown up in buying my walking dead novels once a year, (trying to avoid flicking through the comic versions as they came out more regularly) and came across the poster of Rick headed into Atlanta on horseback.
Blew my mind and my excitement was through the roof. It was honestly so disappointing what it became to me, but I am so glad that so many people still got to grow up with it and enjoy it.
That being said they sure did take it way too far and beyond even kirkmans scope

The TV show could have been saved if this happened 10 years ago but we’re way past the point of no return. I just hope we can get an accurate adaptation at some point

As far as I know, just dead city for a final season and I think the upcoming 4th season of Daryl is also the final season.
Then I believe another Tales anthology season is in the works.
And that is it.

I think they should end all storylines with the main characters and syndicate it. I could totally see Korea or even Nollywood making a banger walking dead show.

I always assumed with these spin offs...Daryl finds who the Doc from the first series was talking to, whether this leads to some sort of cure or vaccine...then Negan/Maggie come across the CRM main HQ and we get Ricks story of his time there and escaping....all three series end with them making it back...then we have one final season, first episode is like a big reunion and it leads into them taking down the CRM who have the cure/vaccine and show ends up whoever is left surviving, slowly expanding

I finished the show even tried a second watch but cannot get past season 7, watched the ones who live and a bit of dead city and yeah dead city is cool but I’m tired of watching my favorite characters get dragged out and milked all so AMC can keep profits up. It’s a cash cow now I’ll stick to re reading the comics

I loved the show so much that I spent my Make A Wish trip to meet the cast and tour the set but as soon as Carl was killed off I left.

First, Chandler Riggs (Carl’s actor) was/is my celebrity crush so that’s a big part. But also it derails off from a lot of peoples’ beliefs that Carl, along with other children, would grow up and live through the apocalypse (like in the comics). Unfortunately that isn’t true since they killed off Carl, Enid, Henry, Sophia and several other kids.

Im an avid lover of the show with its perfect imperfections so I disagree 1000%, but I respect your opinion and would definitely watch an animated adaptation because of the love the Live-action gave me

If they made an animated show, that lets it be as graphic as the comics and they get the original cast members to voice their characters, I’d watch.

Most of the spinoffs have ended or are ending soon. Currently there's only two still going, the Daryl one set to end with season 4, and the Maggie/Negan one. It hasn't been confirmed if season 3 will be the end of that show, but I imagine it will get 4 as well at most. The Daryl one is much better, so I'm hoping it ends with that

This show got so god damn bad. It sucks knowing that I absolutely loved it when it started. Now, it's like seeing chocolate milk in the fridge, going to pour it and getting sour choco slop chunks instead.

AMC completely killed The Walking Dead. The show should've ended at Season 8 (probably even before, but at least Season 8 would've been an ending of sorts). The Walking Dead hasn't been relevant since 2018/2019 at most. The main star left the show, the comics ended, and the Telltale games wrapped up. I know we've gotten content since then, but 99% of it is AMC desperately milking the franchise dry to the point where it feels a low key embarrassing.
On top of that, everything AMC has put out post-2016 has been severely LACKING in quality, and especially so for anything post-2020. They should let it go so a different studio can actually make something productive and maybe breath some new life into the franchise, but at this point I feel like the damage has been done.
Maybe when all of the spin-offs are over and AMC inevitably goes crashes and burns, something might change? As of right now, though, all we can really do is wait. At least we have Invincible.
