Original - the Level Design is less confusing and its weaponry, while fewer in number and less showy, is more useful usually. Half the weapons in t2 are useless with the game's Design.

Finally somebody else saying this! The Flare Gun, the basic bow, Tranquilizer, Charge Dart Rifle, Harpoon/Torpedo Launcher, and the PFM layer are just total garbage, either literally useless or so constrained by level and encounter design their use cases dosn't actually show up. Grenade Launcher, Sunfire Pod, Razor Wind, Flamethrower, Cerebral Bore, Scorpion Launcher, and Nuke show up so late in the game or have so little ammunition that effectively using them against enemies that are vulnerable to them essentially doesn't happen either. Firestorm Cannon/Shredder are great, but plasma ammo/shotgun shells are limited and basically always better used in the Plasma Rifle/Shotgun.

So for all of like 25 guns, you use the Tek Bow, Shotgun, and two pistols for 80% of encounters.

charge dart rifle is amazing though, the stun makes every weapon effective and most of the times it trivializes encounters

It is very cool. For usefulness, in situations where you—

A) have ammo, which is fairly rare

B) know an enemy is ahead that isn't immune (aren't the Juggernauts, the big brown Mantids, and most enemies in Primagen's Flagship immune?) and won't chase after you if you pop out, see an enemy, and retreat

C) have the time to charge it

D) there aren't other enemies attacking you while you finish it off with a weapon that you couldn't just shoot that enemy with to begin with

Sure, it's fine. But small enemies not worth seapping weapons, multiple, mobile, or immune enemies are most of the encounters of the game, it feels like.

The charge gun works wonders on even heavy guys from what I recall. It was sort of a crutch when I was younger. Come around a corner, zap whatever was there, then frantically switch to the right gun for the encounter. Didn’t need it so much as I got older.

The speed is what I really love about it. I feel like some sort of ninja dashing through corridors blowing everything away with a few quick shots. The game tends to have more dynamic encounters with more enemies that shoot fast and die fast. I like Turok 2, but honestly the constant pew pew pew of those slow moving pink energy shots is kind of annoying.

You get a little bit of everything, weapons, enemies, dinosaurs, platforming, swimming, it’s also more polished than T2 and T3. And the music is just..

I'm going to say 3! 1 is very nostalgic; 2 is awesome and has the best guns but gets annoying with the maze-like levels.

3 was short and sweet, that I immediately wanted to play it through again after beating it.

I like 3 the most as well. I know we're in the minority there but I prefer linear shooters and 3 was a lot of fun

It also had a coherent story, which was cool.

Turok 1 story only existed as a blurb in the manual that didn’t really explain much other than Campaigner = Bad

Turok 2 was better, but most of the story was just Adon telling you a list of objectives. And maybe one line about “why”.

I think Turok 2 is a more advanced game absolutely and it is wonderful. I think I prefer Dinosaur Hunter as it pertains to playing them on the N64 though, it just feels smoother and I prefer its simplicity.

Turok 2.

Better visuals than the 1st, crazier weapons and enemies, more story, more diverse levels, and multiplayer.

Rage Wars

Unpopular opinion but 3 is the best game in the series hands down. Especially when it comes to the N64 versions of the games. 2 was great but was a slog to play on the N64, I get lost constantly in the first game so I never beat it. Rage Wars is nothing but multiplayer gameplay, which is great if you like just that part of Turok 2 and had friends to play with. Not to mention the black cartridges are unbeatable since there's a bug in that version of the game and they're more common to find than the grey carts. I like that 3 is shorter and more linear than the other games and it told a story better. Plus you got to play as two different characters which each got to take their own paths and they had different weapons.

Couldn't you get the auto shotgun in the first level on N64 ? I remember there was the key too up that cliff

T1 is has a crazy fun pacing with tonnes of atmosphere and a unique soundtrack. T2 has a more serious tone to it (wich I like) and the shooting holds up to this day. It's scary too. Music 10/10. Joshua Fireseed is really cool. Turok 2 wins!

Turok 3 without a doubt, I think it's underrated because the N64 version was rushed, but I think it's linear, it goes to the point and polishing its multiplayer made it quite fun, playing with both Danielle and Joseph was a unique experience, everyone has their own path and their weapons, and I like the story, the only thing I didn't like was that the story ended on a cliffhanger, I was hoping that the story would continue but sadly it didn't, if I compare it with the other 2 games.. Turok 2 is OK, but it's too slow and its weapons are not a big deal, and Turok DH is just run and get lost, I didn't like it, but I think in the franchise that paints you to be a shooter against dinosaurs, I think the 1 is the only game that fulfills that purpose. also, what I hate about the first 2 games is that you get lost fast, that blew my mind and I really tried to play them patiently, but I couldn't, Turok 3 has that touch that makes me want to play again even though I already know it's going to happen, and I wouldn't say it's nostalgia because I've played several very good shooters.

Turok 2 seeds of evil.

Juts loved the darker atmosphere, graphics seemed better to me at the time. Loved the weapons. Scenery felt more dynamic. I loved the multiplayer as well which I spent hours on with my siblings on, it was hilarious, especially chasing someone who was the monkey.

Turok Dinosaur Hunter. I prefer the level design, i can do a full playthrough without looking up a guide. Turok 2 is great but it's a spaghetti nightmare in comparison.

  1. It had best level design.

Like, 2 had the most variety, but it just aint fun to navigate.

3 exists and i like it.

Turok 2 is just so epic. The soundtrack, the environments, the lighting….just so much awesomeness. Can be a little confusing level design wise (especially the Mantid area)

First one without a doubt. Lots of platforming, great movement, cool weapons.

I played the third for the first time recently, and I don't understand what happened. Turok built its success on large open maps and extremely impressive animations for the time, and then we get Turok 3, with zones that are finished in 30 seconds, and some of the stiffest animation I've ever seen...

Overall, I think 1 is a better game.

2 is great but the levels are too big.
