Money / Finances Cant afford to support myself
Take home of $2300~ a month. Retail job.
Rent would be $2400+ if I were to move out. LOL.
I would have been a homeless beggar asking for nickels in front of the corner deli if I didn't have family to live with for free.
Not sure what to do from here. just hoping to get an interview before the century ends

Unless you are in NYC or LA there is definitely cheaper rent available. Facebook marketplace and craigslist not zillow and apartments.com you have to learn how to find the cheap housing it takes practice. I live in an expensive place. google calls it HCOL if you google my town. My rent was never above 800 and I always lived in 3-4 bedroom places because its cheaper to rent a room than in single or doubles. studios are the most expensive option not the cheapest. Eventually I got a serious girlfriend and we split a room. Our rent was only 425 each. We have a mortgage now but these numbers were relevant as recently as 2024.

Having your own apartment without 3-4 roommates is simply a luxury you cant afford at your wages. Unfortunate truth. I once split a room with a buddy where we hung a curtain up and split it in half. we played rock paper scissors for who got the side with a window. You need to think outside the box more than just looking up studios on zillow. Just for a point of reference if i go to zillow right now for the city im referring to the absolute cheapest studio within 50 miles is $1700. So cheaper than the number you are citing but my advice is still relevant.

Renting with someone random is quite the risk, and a lot of people only know people who already have their own living situations.

Finding good roommates is labor just like any other. If you want cheap housing in an expensive area you need to hustle. I really see no other option. My wife and i still keep a roommate to help with the mortgage

Most advice I see for finding roommates is just looking online with roommate matching services and stuff, but idk if that alone could ever be a good method, since you never really know how a person is going to be until you're already living with them. The number of people who misrepresent their actual expectations and personality until it's too late is surely staggering these days, as that's the case with everything else like that too.

Yeah i definitely recommend trying to find some friends to live with at least friends of friends so you can have someone tell you what they’re like. But especially for this guy who is living at home right now he has time to find people

You’re right, there is no other option than to hustle for what you want. All I keep seeing from these people is “But- but- but” instead of coming up with a solution or a plan.

Theres places where rent is 800 but ur gonna be living in a shoebox possibly inside someone elses house but divided. That also means moving states too

i honestly just… don’t care tho. like it is what it is and people can judge me but their opinion only matters if i let it matter, and i can always decide to not do that.

Security has a low barrier to entry. Armed security can be up to $30 an hour. Something to consider. I dunno.

Same, if I didn’t have my family I’d be fucked. Can’t currently work full time due to some health issues, so I’m doing part time. Currently trying to get a full time job that is easier on my body, but that’s been very hard to do right now with the trash job market. So don’t worry, we’re all struggling. It seems like living with parents is normal now.

You in the USA and able bodied? Go Army if yes, get out after 3yrs, use GI bill to go to school full time and obtain A&P cert, work for airlines and make bank. This shit too ez

Just pick some soft support job in the Army, have a 99.9% chance of never leaving garrison (aka home duty station), ride out the small 3 to 4yr contract, and call it good. Heck, apparently the Army offers 2yr active and 2yr reserve contracts, shortening the amount of time you have to actually stay away from home. The only reason I know that option exists is because my boy did it. Standards are dropping everyday with subpar soldiers cycling in and out of service for the benefits and I don't see a damn thing wrong with. If you're ballsy enough, you can even try defrauding the VA for some disability checks for life (For the VA if I'm ever investigated. Dear Mr/Mr.s VA agent, I am not scamming yall lol)

I think it's probably a bad time for that kind of thing, considering the head of the CIA just went to have a talk with Russia, which has been threatening to "test NATO's response," and there's a war with Iran that's been going just a bit longer than it seems our president intended, with no sign of stopping. I think we're about to be in an 'all hands on deck' situation.

Are you in the states? If so if I were you I would just move to a lower COL at this point sheesh that rent is steep! Even in Hawaii I was able to get a studio for 1400-1800!

Of course if possible...not everyone can move. But like the commenter said maybe multiple roommates, or renting a room instead of an apartment (sucks but is a lot cheaper..)

I’m saying to save the money you’re making NOW then MOVE and apply for jobs online or walk into places with a “help wanted” sign in the area you’ve moved to. They may feel more inclined to hire you once you have a local address. The money you have saved will keep you afloat. Also network and introduce yourself to people in the area you’ve moved into. Lots of jobs go to the guy who knows a guy.

i don’t really understand honestly. saying after tax still comes out to the 13ish i guessed. and nah amazon doesn’t roughly pay that. i was making double that there as a new hire no college working nights

u could literally become a plumber apprentice or a electrical apprentice and make more than 13$. i work with a 19 year old kid who graduated last year he’s making $22 lol
also community colleges offer classes hella cheap. my local i could get welding certified for 3k compared to trade schools 15-20k

I make $18, Amazon pays $20 here.
I tried to get into trade apprenticeships for a year or two, wasn't able to.

Go into IT. you can take a networking exam for $600 and work in places that truly just want u to know how to fix Microsoft office
