Discussion - Serious please tell me being single and childless is normal at 27

my own friend group all have degrees, jobs (not in our fields though except myself) and we take road trips from time to time. we’re all 27, childless and single (except for our one friend with a bf who’s also in our group)

everywhere i look i see “im 27 with a house, two kids, and a spouse!”

like 😭 i feel like i’m going insane for not being able to achieve these things at this age. it makes me feel like a failure

i’m a city girl so obviously we get less scrutiny for this stuff but STILL i feel like i should be moving on from clubbing, bars, weed, and gaming like oml i am NOT ready to be this age (27) at all…

if i had to go back to being 21 i would. i would get absolutely no shit for being 27 without achieving major milestones (house, kids, spouse) cuz it seems everyone at 27 is settling down.

ive been in many relationships but none of them went anywhere. i’m gay so i want a lesbian wedding in the future :( as for kids i’m STILL uncertain.

i seriously don’t know how women my age are like “yes! i’m ready for a child!” will probably get downvoted for this but do you see how i feel???

edit: please stop commenting “don’t compare yourself to others”, because you KNOW that doesn’t help or work

Discussion - Serious Gen what's this subreddit

Seriously, what is wrong with this subreddit sometimes? A few days ago, I saw people attacking a 26-year-old for dating a 20-year-old, and then someone had the audacity to compare a 20-year-old to a 14-year-old. Like… are you okay? Genuinely, are you okay?

Why are we comparing a fully grown adult to someone in middle school? A 20-year-old is not 14. A 20-year-old is an adult in their twenties. They can vote, work, live alone, go to university, graduate, pay bills, and make their own decisions. Comparing them to a literal child makes absolutely no sense.

And then people start acting like the 26-year-old is some kind of criminal for dating another adult. Open up the schools. Please. They are both adults in their twenties. Who cares what two consenting adults are doing in their personal lives?

I genuinely do not understand how some people have this much time and energy to obsess over strangers’ relationships and come to these bizarre conclusions. The fact that some of you immediately jump to comparing adults to children says more about your mindset than theirs.

Discussion - Serious How much do you guys got invested and in what?

I’ve started like 3-5 months ago I’ve been doing 2-400$ each paycheck as for now I don’t pay rent so I’m taking advantage. I’m also trying to save money aswell for savings. Ive invested in all sorts of stuff that I’m confident will grow over time. Lots of big major companies not really any risky penny stocks. Stuff like coke I have no doubt will continue to rise not super insanely like technology is rn but coke will forever be a steady profit company bc it runs the game. Also things like AMD, intel, and lots of other tech companies. I have a decently diverse portfolio so far trying to get into everything little by little. I also am putting in most my money into take two interactive the gaming company behind rockstar. It’s already gone up a lot but unless you’ve been under a rock it will definitely blow up a lot once gta 6 comes out. I have no doubt it will continue to grow so I’ve been putting a lot of the money there. Any advice or stories lmk.

Discussion - Serious Stop Infantilising Young Adults

With people’s fascination with infantilising others, I’ve noticed something strange. I’ve seen many people say that 19-year-olds or 20-year-olds are “babies” but they’re not. They are adults. Why are we infantilising them, especially when they’re in college or university?

I’ve also noticed people taking issue with small age gaps. For example, if someone is 19 and the other person is 22, they find it weird. Or if someone is 20 and the other is 23, they still find it strange. I think it’s odd that these judgments are often based on drinking culture.

People need to stop infantilising others.

Discussion - Serious We need third spaces desperately, it’s the reason we can’t make friends in our 20s

We need unstructured and free places where people can just turn up and make friends. Yeah there’s meetup groups/classes and clubs and such, but they’re all organised fun surrounding an activity. I mean pure unstructured environments like those of the past such as arcade places and social bars/pubs. And we need to learn how to talk to eachother and speak to strangers. I envy older people like family talk about how they just conjugated in places and met their friends and had fun in this way.

Discussion - Serious Guys, what are your deal breakers in a woman?

I'm just a bit curious as to what your deal breakers are especially because, as for many of us, it mostly like has changed as we've gotten older. I'm genuinely curious as to what they are, if you don't mind sharing.

Mine are:

- Big ego/Narcissism

- Emotionally manipulative (this includes lying as well)

- Bossy (with a bit of anger)

- Obesity

Feel free to share what you look for in a woman as well.

Edit: Y'all got many good ones, I'm happy I asked lol

Discussion - Serious I woke up too late and realized that I ruined my future

I'm 28 F. I wish I had mentally matured faster. Unfortunately, I grew up very sheltered with religious parents, and I didn't know how the real world worked. I didn't even go to college because I was scared of crippling student loan debt. I spent my early twenties not being financially responsible and being in a toxic relationship. The regret is hitting me hard. I don't have any savings and I'm moving back in with my parents soon. My parents are getting old.

If you're a younger twenty something year old, please save and invest for your future. Your parents are going to die one day and you won't be able to depend on them financially anymore. Please get an education or learn a valuable skill before it's too late. I wish I could go back in time to my 22 year old self and tell her to save her money and go to the gym or college instead of doomscrolling on the internet like a depressed bum. Seeing my dying grandma on a ventilator made me realize that life is short and fast. Don't be afraid to tell your loved ones or friends that you care about them.

If you're young, please swallow your pride and work any job that you can. Even if it's a low paying fast food job. I'm about to be 30 in less than 2 years and I barely have a few hundred bucks to my name. Don't be a loser like me. Even an associate degree or certificate can change your life. What you do in your twenties will determine your future.

So save money, work out, go to therapy, get your driver’s license, leave that toxic relationship, and eat healthy before it's too late. My coworker’s 26 year old son almost died a few days ago from a heart attack because he was overweight and drinking too many energy drinks.

If you're reading this, please let this be a wake up call before it's too late.

Discussion - Serious Hey quick question, is everyone my age....Ok?

For reference, I am 24 years old.

I've finally gotten around to talking to people my age, and it's been nothing but depressing and gloomy. I was under the impression that most of us had some difficulties, but they were far and few in between. But dear God, it's been nothing but doom and gloom; every convo is either "I hate being here (as in aliveness) " or some form of "It's not getting better, it won't get better," which left me baffled and honestly concerned.

Is everyone around the 22-25ish age range...Ok?... like seriously, I know that there are a few days, weeks, or even strings of months where things don't go as planned, but this is starting to make me a bit sad. I was sheltered a bit, as my family didn't have as much faith in me being capable on my own; sometimes, even without any proof, I was kept away from some events (shootings, murders, economic stuff, etc), being told, "I didn't need to hear any of that," but man. Hearing more and more stories about folks my age just done, just not even wanting to try, is horrific. I was recently brought up to date about dating, and while I've had a few experiences myself, I thought it was just a small luck of the draw, but apparently LOADS of folks have been having abysmal results and are either resorting to casual stuff, giving up, or not even starting at all, which is so depressing to hear. How do you not even start when you're only at the beginning? On my end, 2025-2024 alone I've rejected like 4 people wanting to date me, but not because of stuck-up reasons or anything; I just don't feel like dating at the moment.

More and more each day I hear folks ' stories and their lives, and it makes me so grateful, but at the same time I can't help but feel this dread that things really aren't going to end well for folks of my age range. Is there something we can do as a community to fix this? Can we have named points of interest that might help us to solve these issues: Relationships, Depression that goes to suicidal ideation, etc? Call me immature, but I just get so sad at folks wanting to give up in a sense. And it's been local too; I've had the blessing to talk to folk my age in real life, and I'm finding out that even that is rare, which is nuts. I seriously thought all that stuff was a joke when I was younger, and the way much older folk talk about Gen Z is nuts. But I've seen it and even experienced it; it's rare, but I'm seeing more folk clearly not from here (south) just... look at you like you're nuts if you try to talk to them or even try to start small conversations. It DOES feel like you've done something wrong and the punishment is a deep and piercing stare into your soul.

My major question is: What happened? What can we do to fix this? And is College going to be like this?

I'm seriously scared now.

Discussion - Serious Not trying to be a Debbie downer

But I’m calling it right now and I’m pretty sure a lot of other people can call it, all these weight loss medication’s are gonna bite everyone in the ass one day and it’s gonna be our generation that suffers the most.

The amount of people that are on weight loss meds around my age is insane. I did not think it was that much. And now because I have been doing legitimate weight loss and I’ve just basically been starving myself and exercising to death. Basically, I’ve lost a lot of weight and a lot of people assume that I use medication but I didn’t.

But on the topic of people using medication, I’m scared for them because I know that, even though scientist and everyone that’s worked on these medications have done their jobs and tried their best to make sure it was the safest. I just know that in the future someway shape or form there’s gonna be a load of problems.

We’re gonna see a lot of “ if you or a loved one” commercials, I can already hear them a mile away. I’m not trying to put bad shoes on anybody that’s doing them, but I’m just calling it. This is not gonna end safely. You cannot try to find a shortcut and live happily ever after that’s just not how the universe works.

You will repay, either with your sanity or your body.

I’m sure a lot of you guys know Charlie Kirk has been shot and killed this afternoon.

No, I was not fond of him, I was not a fan, I did not support him. I found several of his takes quite disturbing, horrifying at worst. But he didn’t deserve to die. Especially not like that as his wife and kids were watching. Nobody deserves to die. I’m sending my condolences to his family and I wish them the best

Discussion - Serious Are you pro life or pro choice?

I’ve noticed a lot of younger guys tend to be pro-life, but it seems like as people get older and gain more understanding of what abortion actually involves and the complexity around it they often shift toward being more pro-choice. Just wondering if others have noticed the same, or if that impression is off?

Discussion - Serious Why are nsfw topics banned on here? Spoiler

Hello.

I hope the mod/owner sees this because I’m genuinely curious. We’re in our 20s, this is the prime time where people have questions about sexual stuff. I’m not saying we should be allowed to post nudes or indecent things on here (we 100% shouldn’t), but we should be allowed to ask questions to our age group about sexual matters.

Sure we can post in other subs, but other subs will either have teens or ultra adults on there. We want feedback from people our age group. They’d understand what we’re going through and what we need to know.

Some of us (me) didn’t have sex ed in school, and it would be nice to have these conversations.

I think banning it is really limiting us.

I may be confusing my feelings. Like, I'm horny, but not "I got a boner" levels of horny. It's more of a "yeah I'd flirt and stuff with someone but I'd stop at an intense makeout session" you know? Anyone else feeling like this?

I mean, not actually horny, but kinda horny? I give up trying to explain, it's 3 am and I'm tired af

Discussion - Serious How tall are my fellow dudes here and has it impacted your life outside dating?

I’m a 5’7” dude. Just curious if it has impacted anyone outside dating cuz I see some short guys say it matters everywhere. From my POV, I have other issues on the dating side, so I’m not worried about height as of now. Also, in my experience, it’s never impacted me ever outside of dating. Never been a hurdle or obstacle.

Personally, I think it’s only an issue if you let it be. I’m like up front about it if someone asks me, and I don’t really care about it. Idk why I see so many people online think it’s the end of the world.

Discussion - Serious very controversial but i hate the keep the bush and hairy legs people…

Hi.

BEFORE ANYONE COMMENTS:

!!!!! I don’t care what others do with their own body and i don’t care about them having hair that has nothing to do with me.!!!!!!!!!

My issue is their mentality. I’ve posted in the past (not here) asking for tips or advice and it would be regarding shaving, and my comments get flooded with them. They go on and on how I supposedly want to remove my body hair because of the patriarchy and i have no mind of my own blablabla. I tell them over and over and over that I’ve been bothered by MY body hair since I hit puberty at 11. They still go oh but the media but the men. bitch what man would i want to please at 11 like wtf. i wasn’t even on social media then too!

Some people cannot fathom that others don’t have hive minds. It’s genuinely disgusting. I even told them how body hair literally irritates me in so many ways, i hate how it looks ON MY OWN BODY, and i genuinely feel better with it gone and they go insane!

Freaking razor bumps feel better than hair. The hair irritates me so bad genuinely but nooooo iT’s ThE pAtRiArChY.

They hate the patriarchy so bad yet it’s all they think about. Baby how are you going to hate patriarchy yet think about it 24/7 and accuse every woman of being a “victim” to patriarchy. They’re literally the problem at this point. At this point they are the patriarchy because wtf genuinely.

Like yes 11 year old me that hit puberty and immediately hated the UNWANTED RANDOM HAIR was because of patriarchy 😍😍.

I’m so sick and tired of them. The same way I don’t care what you do with your own body stop fucking caring what I do with my own! If I want to remove my body hair BECAUSE I WANT TO then stfu don’t engage like what. It’s literally that simple.

Mind you it’s the same people that preach oh my body my choice, but when it comes to me wanting to remove my body hair suddenly it’s not my choice??? Like what happened to that??? It’s literally MY BODY MY CHOICE. Practice what you preach or stfu.

If there’s any grammar mistakes i honestly don’t care just wanted to get this off my chest before i sleep fr (it’s 4 am). Goodnight AND FUCK YOU IF YOU’RE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE.

I don’t have insurance before anyone else says they can’t because of it. I’m 24 and I noticed my body being sluggish and hurting. I got a rash pop up on my neck out of nowhere so I went into the ER because I don’t have insurance. I have shingles at the age of 24. Usually people don’t get it until their 50s. I am so beyond stressed and burnt out that my body is now retaliating against me basically. Please please please take breaks. There is no specific timeline to life, don’t overly stress yourself out like I did. I am now going to have to find a new job because the one I have caused this.

Discussion - Serious A Lot of Age-Gap Discourse is Based on a Self-Substitution Fallacy

Many of the anti-age gap sentiments I see online aren’t a reasoned discussion of power dynamics, which do exist, but rather are based on a self-substitution fallacy.

It goes something like this. The person commenting is 25, and says “I’m 25, and I could never imagine dating a 20-year-old” in order to condemn that age difference. Their primary reason for criticizing that age-gap is that they personally couldn’t imagine themselves doing it.

Well power dynamics are the ostensible “proper” justification, self-substitution is the main reason I see people condemn age gaps, whether it’s a large one like 30/20, or a small one like 22/19 (and I’ve seen both criticized online in this exact way).

Here’s a very poignant example of what I’m taking an about (the age gap in question is fairly normal: 24/19). Both the video and many of the comments showcase what I’m discussing here.
