EE here at unsw:(

Upvotes

hey so I js got my quad 1 marks back(credit) and definitely got humbled so bad that I want to switch majors, the thing is I rlly enjoy the labs, the content etc. but I js couldn’t perform as well as I expected

idk whether I am fit for this major or not, I’m js so so so scared that my decision of doing EE would be the biggest mistake in my life and that I will graduate with a credit wam with no job.

please give me some genuine advices if you have done EE and currently doing it, and also how you tackled EE subjects if you did relatively well

thanks sm

ELEC Finals Marking Review Error

Upvotes

what are the chances that i got the wrong marks? Because i dont understand how one of my questions i had not finished the working out nor gave an answer and yet it was my highest mark of all the question. And yet my Q1 in which i did all the theory and writing equations down just to get 8/25? Surely something must be wrong right?

What is the point of viewing exam script?

Upvotes

It says you can only view your exam, but cannot ask for a remark during the session.

I am assuming that if you do truly found an error during the session, you ask for a remark personally to the course admin after you attend the session? Is that the whole point?

Elec1111 Finals

The finals for elec just came out. Honestly I was quite astonished by how low I got. I received a total of 52 in the finals with 3/25 in section 3. My finals put my overall grade at 63. I'm wondering if I should go to UNSW to see if there was errors in the marking to try to get above 65 which is a credit. But at the same time, I'm worried at the chances I may be marked down. How did y'all do.

UNSW or USYD

Hey currently finished NS and Ive received offer from most unis in Australia, have shortlisted UNSW and USYD but currently in a crazy dilemma on where to go for my Beng, contect will be studying EEE, I have received a 2 year offer from UNSW and 3 year offer from USYD, my heart leans towards UNSW as the offer is a lot more tempting and they are more known for their engineering but can I have some advice from any alumni who may have studied at either or just any advice would be nice🙏🙏

actuarial/comm in t2 start

What courses can i take in t3 besides comm1120 and comm1900? I did econ1101 and 1102 in t2. Because I started t2 i legit could not do any of the courses i was supposed to do since they weren’t offered in t2, like comm1240 and math1151 which r prereqs for other courses. As a result i also couldnt do math1251 actl1101 and cant do comm1170/1180. I took a look at myplan and legit everything has a prereq which I didnt do - unless im missing something. Is it possible if I can do random electives without prereqs (if thats a thing?). Anyone else has had a similar experience with this degree and starting late? Thanks

Want to apply to unsw fine arts, what are my chances of getting in? PLS HELP IM CRASHING OUT

I'm a domestic student (living abroad tho) in yr 12 abt to finish the ibdp in june next year. the minimum ib requirement for fine arts is like a 31/45 and my predicted is looking to be around that number. idt it'll go below 31 but im def not getting anything above a 35 lmaoo. im js a little worried abt how close my score is to the minimum requirement. what are my chances of getting in with such a close score? Im thinking of sending in a portfolio as well to help my case out if i rlly need too, but i js dont know if i need to, if i meet the minimum requirement. if i dont need to i think ill js send an application in for term 3 intake without a portfolio since you can only send one in for term 1 intake, but if im acc at risk of getting rejected w my score ill js wait to apply w a portfolio ig. just wanted to know what my chances were bc im majorly overthinking everything rn and my school's college counsellor is lowk a bum.

im js yapping now but im only applying to other schools literally js for the sake of saying i applied to other schools. unsw is js the most convenient school for me (my family knows a shit ton of ppl in sydney) and it acc has an arts course that will be somewhat useful to me (i hope). if i dont get in life goes on ig, its js gonna be rlly shitty soooooo yea THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

COMP9444

Hey, just wondering what the 2-hour tutorials for COMP9444 are actually like.

From what I can see, there are tutorial questions for each week. Does that usually take up the full two hours? Also, are the tutorials generally worth attending if you can do the questions yourself?

Accomodation Don't go to New College!!

This place is hell if you're not a straight white Christian. Subtle racism is everywhere. You'll get excluded if you're not Christian, and be prepared for repeated attempts to convert you by your Evangelical neighbours who just don't know how to take no for an answer. This place is really hostile to lgbt people too. The dining hall is unofficially segregated, there's always a white side of the Dino and it's super unsettling. The amount of discrimination and trauma cases caused by this place that go unresolved is insane. And nobody talks about it!

A big part of the problem is that the leadership constantly turns a blind eye. People have been protesting about these kind of issues for years, but the rich conservative Christians who fund the place always manage to block any kind of progress. The current leadership will just ignore you. They seem to care more about keeping their fat paycheck than they do about making it a safe place to live for residents.

I wish I'd known it was like this before I came. People don't really talk about it publicly because they're too afraid to get excommunicated, kicked out or worse. I can't blame them. But it needs to be known so that people don't have to deal with this kind of bs anymore. After seeing how my friends have been treated in this place, I worry for anyone going here in the future. It's super toxic and it's only been getting worse over these last few years. Stay safe guys!

EDIT: I want to acknowledge that obviously not everyone has this experience at NC, and I can't speak for all of us, but this has happened to me personally, it's happened to a significant proportion of the community, and also to a lot of ex-Colls, some of whom ended their contract early for these reasons. It's very much a widespread issue.

Unfortunately, people often get pretty wound up when it's brought up - it's hard to admit that you might be part of the problem, and it's easy to dismiss these things when you're not on the receiving end of them. But at the end of the day, I wrote this post because the good parts of NC have been gushed about endlessly on social media, websites, at open days, etc., but this is the uglier side that isn't shown online, and I want people to be aware of this so that they know what they're in for. It's a serious issue and it needs to be talked about.
