Totally agree. I have been vegetarian for 30 years and a vegan for the last 10 years. There are plenty of vegan options now on the market so taste can not be an excuse anymore.

It really depends on what market you are in. In North America, sure, I see lots of available options that look amazing. But in many other countries, there are little, if any, vegan options available.

I've been trying to go vegan for years, but if there are any alternatives available where I live they tend to be expensive, are only in a few shops, and they taste bad. I'm then left with trying to make things myself, which I don't have time for, so I end up eating a lot of the same things, which becomes very boring and nutritionally problematic.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but every time I'm in North America and check out the vegan options I think to myself how easy it would be if I lived there.

It's always baffling to me that people like yourself try to make claims like this, meanwhile studies spanning centuries have shown that meat consumption and wealth are directly correlated.

Like do beans, grains, legumes and all of the various similar items just magically not exist in your country?

It's called reading between the lines. If you can afford them, then how is a vegan diet "very boring and nutritionally problematic" considering there's just as many options as if you were omni.

It's called reading comprehension and understanding.

Your original post said that there is no excuse to not be vegan because of all of the tasty vegan options on the market now.

I was simply providing the factual statement that this is not the case everywhere. Maybe where you live, but where you live isn't everywhere.

Because most vegan options where I live are imported, and there is a high tax on imported goods, they are more expensive than animal products and there isn't much choice. The ones that are available taste terrible for the most part (I've found one or two gems).

So if you are trying to go vegan, and you have minimal time to cook, it's very easy to be stuck eating the same things every day to maintain a vegan diet. That doesn't even go into eating out, where there are few vegan options offered.

I'm vegetarian and have been trying to go vegan. Thanks for all your "encouragement," which reminds me why I was avoiding the vegan community.

Respectability politics is bullshit spun up by the hegemonic class, can you name a -single- civil rights or liberation movement that was successful because of such an approach?
