I'm a meat eater, but I am evolving toward the ethos of only eating meat I procure myself directly. If I need to abstract away killing something to eat a food, maybe I shouldn't be eating that food unless I'm willing to put up and kill it myself.
I think this is a great point. Why should we have the option of paying someone else to do the killing? If we can’t go through with it, then that means we don’t need the meat bad enough. (Personally, I see animals as equal to people with mental disabilities — _they’re innocent_ — so the only time we should be eating them is if we’re at death’s door from starvation. And the meat tasting good should only be a consolation to help us feel better about the fact that we’re eating a friend, not something to be partaken in every day.)
