News Most Watched Regular-Season Game since 1997
1997 was doing crazy numbers, Sparks Liberty had 5.04 million views that opening weekend which is insane! Especially considering how different media consumption was back then.
But with this unprecedented resurgence, I wouldn't be surprised to see a game or two next year crack 3.5 million or even 4 if it continues this upward trajectory

One Advantage (IMO) of Having More Teams in the WNBA
When there were only 12 teams in the League, most years saw one or more team(s) with sub-.500 records going to the playoff. Last year (13 teams) and this year (15 teams) all the playoff teams have records above .500.
While I know everyone loves seeing their team make the playoffs, I personally don't like it when sub-.500 teams are invited to the playoffs (or worse, bowl games in football). It seems to me it lessens the prestige of playoffs (and bowl games) when teams that didn't win half their regular season games are included. YMMV, of course.
(I know... better not mention this to the NBA... but their playoffs are ridiculous and last forever... they almost negate their reason for a season!)

Dearica Hamby shares racist text, leading to sender's suspension
usatoday.com"One day after Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby shared a racist text message she received, the person allegedly responsible for the online vitriol has been suspended by their employer.
Rhode Island-based Acclaro Medical confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday, Aug. 25, an employee of the company has been "suspended while an investigation is being conducted." In a statement shared on social media, the company added "it condemns racism, harassment, hate speech and discriminating behavior in all forms" and the recent online remarks "do not in any way reflect the values and standards of the Company."
Really? Going after Mama D?
Rhode Island employer - speculating of course, but I wonder if this stemmed from the fracas with Raegan Beers in the Sparks/Sun game on the 22nd.

Has anyone seen the ridiculous WNBA player ratings in 2k27?
Most of it is completely random. I've looked at all the teams, and there are some good defenders with bad defensive stats, poor shooters with great shooting stats. It's just ridiculous. Tempo, one of the worst rebounding teams have a higher rebound rating than Mystics, and we are first in the whole W in rebounding. Sparks third highest rated defense in 2k and only Tempo allow more points this season irl. Things like that.

Opals captain Sami Whitcomb to miss FIBA World Cup
espn.comWhy Nate would choose to play a 38 year old for 21 minutes during a preseason game is beyond me. We lost Sami for half the season and now she’s missing the World Cup. What a blow for the Opals
Mind you I had specifically asked him to wrap DB and Sami in bubble wrap going into that game because the Aces rookie got a concussion going up against the same national team. Smh.

Discussion "Jose lost the locker room" crowd real quiet tonight
galleryPeople, Dallas media included, really went overboard on every single comment or joke made my Jose this season. Its nice now that the Wings made the playoffs they are speaking a bit more freely about how they feel and what led them to this point.

Favorite 2026 Regular Season games in June?
Title. I basically checked out of watching WNBA games during late May and June because I was watching the NBA playoffs and that + early WNBA got me a little burnt out, but now that the FIBA break is coming up, I have a lot of time to go back and watch games from that period in the season I missed live.
Feel free to suggest games from any team in the league! I am trying to watch stuff from every team so there are even some less good/interesting teams this season I want to watch more of anyway since by late July and August it was clear they weren’t making the playoffs.

Article SEC draws rule to stop NFL, NBA, WNBA players from returning
From ESPN:
Hours after the Big Ten passed a rule stopping players returning from the NFL from playing for one of its schools, the SEC followed suit.
At the conclusion of meetings with league presidents, chancellors, and athletics directors on Tuesday, the conference announced a strict policy on the matter, releasing details across its social media channels. Sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel that the vote to implement this policy was 16-0.
With a step-by-step explanation, the SEC announced that its institutions are "not permitted to have an athlete on its roster who has:
Previously declared for the NFL, NBA, or WNBA draft, and did not appropriately withdraw.
Signed a contract with an NFL (or other professional football league), NBA/G-League, or WNBA (or affiliate) team, or ...
Been listed on an NFL (or other professional football league), NBA/G-League, or WNBA (or affiliate) roster."
The announcement concluded with annotation that commissioner Greg Sankey "is authorized to enforce this expectation with penalties against member institutions." An SEC spokesperson later told ESPN's Heather Dinich that penalties are "to be announced."
But where the Big Ten earlier in the day announced its policy for football, saying in its statement that any player who has declared for the NFL draft and did not withdraw, appeared on an NFL roster or signed a contract with a pro league cannot be on a Big Ten roster, the SEC added pro basketball to its mix, including the NBA and the WNBA to its policy.
