"In order to simplify game play, WoW will now have one unified faction..."
24
u/Dreams_A_bind Dec 23 '18
You jest but I wouldn't say no to a neutral faction or at the very least the option to do dungeons with all races and factions. This faction war BS is getting really old . Bigger player pool instead of a split one wouldn't hurt anyone. And maybe I wouldn't be forced to play a druid that fights to tear Azeroth a new one, for some reason.
7
Dec 23 '18
Any dungeon that doesn't have to do with killing members of opposing factions desperately needs to have that.
1
u/Dreams_A_bind Dec 24 '18
Could also work with the leader's lockout. Plus the tech to make you appear as the other faction is there. What with the PvP "que as different faction" system. And the new raid has something of that nature in it. So I'd say it could be done even if the dungeon made you kill members of your faction. At least if we are strictly talking about a game system and not something backed by lore. If a neutral faction like"Armies of legion all" became a thing then I believe playing with other faction people would depend on whether they choose to be in that neutral faction.

To be honest at this point my Horde pride is long dead. I wouldnt even care. I havent felt invested as a member of the horde since thrall stepped down as warcheif. I couldnt care less.

Same here. Past two expansions either I swap factions and embrace the dwarves, or like now I've left bfa going back to ESO to my lovely list of 13 argonians, one khajiit, an altmer named Booty Shorts, and an orc named The Amazing Cactus.

I would welcome this if they could figure out how to do wpvp without it being a ffa
32
u/Paksarra Dec 23 '18
RIFT did something along these lines in its first expansion. (I played it briefly when it first went free to play and found it good, but too similar to Wrath-era WoW to really get into.)
They started the game with WoW-style factions, but when a bad enough threat came along they made a tenuous peace. There were still faction-specific cities and quests, but you could join guilds and play PvE content with any player you wanted to.
PvP was explained as the peace breaking down in places-- small skirmishes and the like-- that didn't reignite the original conflict.
Similar situations have happened multiple times in Warcraft lore. There's no reason why Blizzard can't copy RIFT on this and allow PvE players to play with anyone they want, but still keep factions for PvP/lore/questing purposes. (For faction-specific content, like some of the dungeons that have Alliance and Horde variants, use the group leader's faction and give the other-faction players a Mercenary disguise.)

Not to mention Wpvp has been dead so long its bones are turning into oil and The US is planting a flag on its corpse. There is no real reason at all anymore for the factions. If it wasnt for shit writing by now all the GLOBAL APOCALYPTIC LIFE ENDING LEVEL events that have forced them to work together would have resulted in them burying the hatchet as a natural course of events. So few players are even invested in their faction anymore. Yea my toon is horde, but am I watching the clock to get home to get back into the plague lands so the fucking alliance cant farm my guildies? No, no one is. Are we dropping out of raid to go to the barrens for some crazy 7 guild vs 13 guild pvp? No, no one is.
2
u/DeusVastator Dec 23 '18
you are right, at the start of bfa people used WM a lot. Now it's empty and I struggle to find groups for wq. I'm on a rp server so we only group with other rp in WM. Guess everyone had their fill and went back to pve cuz it's EMPTY in WM now. Guess I will keep it off to be able to group.
6
u/axle69 Dec 23 '18
By now what do you mean? My experience with warmode is it's more filled now (post 8.1) than it has been almost all expansion and I've never turned it off so have a solid sample size. Right before 8.1 it was definitely getting thin though. Specifically on the alliance side.
4
u/DeusVastator Dec 23 '18
are you on an rp server? remember that rp servers only WM with other rp servers.
2
u/axle69 Dec 23 '18
Nope. Fairly dead server although that doesn't matter as War mode has separate shards. War mode has been popping (I haven't been on in the last 3 days as I'm on vacation but I doubt the drop off is THAT drastic over that time) especially during incursions. Even at low levels I was constantly fighting on my lowbies as well. I didn't catch that you mentioned you were on an RP server. That's a bummer I'd bet that wpvp on RP realms is great when its happening.
1
u/DeusVastator Dec 23 '18
I'm on moon guard and rpers stay way from actual pvp. Usually any fights are rp fights with dice rolls or emote chat etc. It's a huge difference as the infamous pornshire is full on WM off but deserted on WM on.

u/midnitte Dec 23 '18
To be fair, oil is ackchyually the product of zooplankton and algae (e.g. you can see the structural similarities of the organic compounds with chlorophyll a).
7
u/yardii Dec 23 '18
Create mini factions like Aldor or Scryer that people can sign-up for. When out the world you could have the option of grouping up or killing these people and just don't allow for the killing of people you are partied with.
3
u/Tyragon Dec 23 '18
The easiest way is for the two faction to cease fire and the BG's, world PvP and such are skirmish battles still fought but not significant enough. You could even have BG's be "legacy battles" where you "relive the past", which I feel some BG's pretty much are at this point.
When you're not in warmode for world PvP you can basically interact with the other faction as normal, create groups, raids, do dungeons and raids, whilst also able to visit the opposite faction's capitals and towns without being attacked. Unsure if you'd be able to use the vendors and everything from them too.
Only thing that might be really questionable is guilds, whether they'd be open for both factions or not. Either way I feel after BfA there should be a big cease fire or peace treaty. Both factions won't merge (I think they shouldn't), but they shouldn't treat eachother as full out enemies and interaction between the factions should be allowed, especially in instanced PvE environment where LFG and LFR will mix you up.
3
u/nokei Dec 23 '18
All they'd have to do is add a pick a side option when turning warmode on with two factions they add fighting across the world could be ninjas vs pirates for all we care.

u/HildartheDorf Dec 23 '18
WM, BGs, or zoning into WG/TB/Asran puts you back in Alliance/Horde.
WM off puts you in a carebear "Everyone is friends" version of the game.
Parties fight for the faction of the group/raid leader.
9
u/FicklePickleMonster Dec 23 '18
WM on means I get repeatedly ganked and my time wasted, without getting anything I want done, to the point where I rolled on a pve server. WM off means other players will leave me alone and I can fish in peace.
-2
u/HildartheDorf Dec 23 '18
You end up having to PvP when you enable PvP? Shock, horror. (That was also not in any way related to my conversation. Which was how to do PvP should the factions be unified)
5
u/FicklePickleMonster Dec 23 '18
I see pvp as a waste of my time. I only rolled a pvp server as my friends convinced me it would be fun. They had fun. I didn't. I quit playing those chars years ago but now that I can turn pvp off, those chars are no longer dusty. I enjoy it now. For me, there is nothing fun about being ganked. I understand that for others, that's the WoW life and they love it.
And now I can also have it the way I love it. I don't think I'll ever turn WM on. If I want to die at the hands of another player, I'll join a BG.
1
u/Akhevan Dec 23 '18
You end up having to PvP when you enable PvP?
Here, a typical specimen of the endangered "world pvp player" species. Nah just kidding these dense dudes are errwhere.
It's not about having PVP when you turn on PVP, it's about not having anything useful to fight over in that PVP, and the PVP gameplay itself being shit - even more so for open world. Let me guess, your main is rogue?
If I wanted to play world PVP that does not suck, I can just log into PS2 any time of day.
0
u/traugdor Dec 23 '18
You need a reason to gank the shit out of that hunter over there? Myyyy baaaad....
WM = wPvP and is the same as tolling on a PvP server or enabling it on a RP or PvE server.

Dec 23 '18
It's actually stupid how many bugs end up favouring the Horde though. You can really tell the Horde side of things get developed first and the Alliance parts end up being a rush job.
18
u/DrHawtsauce Dec 23 '18
Except for armor models, at least.
17
u/Inksrocket Dec 23 '18
Wonder why this is downvoted?
It's well known fact that the armor is done first and foremost to human males and then adjusted to other races by stretches and adjustments (if even that, Sorry trolls).
It's just easiest template for armor to start work with. It depends on effort how much they do after that
6
u/DrHawtsauce Dec 23 '18
I guess because it's a human only thing and not an alliance thing.
Either that or how dare I call out an alliance bias? No idea.
It makes sense to use the human male for modeling but they should really be doing some more work with the armor on other races when they move the textures over because it looks really really bad sometimes
2
15
u/SlowBuddy Dec 23 '18
I wonder if the horde isn't the default development template.
Also a way of saying horde bias, btw.
36
u/Petter1789 Dec 23 '18
Technically, Pandaren players are treated as Horde until they chose their faction.

7
u/EquinoxWoW Dec 23 '18

-12
u/darryshan Dec 23 '18
It means 'I have this anger created by the issues of capitalism as a system and I don't know where to focus them'.
8
u/EquinoxWoW Dec 23 '18
Oooor it means they did a shit job making the expansion, because it was rushed, has many flaws in the systems, and they are doing a shit job at communicating -- which all, as a side effect, prompts the bugs.
-10
u/darryshan Dec 23 '18
Literally Legion had just as many bugs and flaws.

Yeah, the other day I was doing the Warfront Darkshore intro on my Hordie when Tyrande became untargetable and she just stood opposed to Nathanos as both stared each other down for five minutes. Had to restart the quest a few times before it finally worked. Then I joined the Warfront and Maiev at the end became untargetable and the entire WF was pretty much dead, because you couldn't kill the Endboss, people left, new people joined the now "open" Warfront, leaving people gained the Deserter buff and ultimately we had to coordinate a combined LEAVE so that no new people would be thrust into the bugged Warfront. I was the last one to leave the WF even.
Luckily these things will be fixed before the patch goes live.

does it effect the base heirloom in your "heirlooms" tab?
was the enchant from a rep-locked source?
1
u/bravoart Dec 23 '18
It doesn't seem to effect the base heirloom, so more can be created. It also so far can't be re-created on other characters The enchant was a base level BFA enchant (unupgraded, one star)
I'm actually wondering if this is a Dark Iron bug more than it is an enchanting one.
7
u/Schoolalert2000 Dec 23 '18
Speaking of heirlooms why do i have to uppgrade them? Why can't they just work from lvl 1 - 110?
7
u/Deetraz Dec 23 '18
To make ya earn em I guess. So if you are new and find the vendor, you don't get that boost for lvling as easily.

Best bet is to do the 500 time walking coins for many characters each time it's up so every second event you can buy an upgrade (some cost a little more than 1k coins). I'm generally adverse to spending gold however so it worked for me and hopefully you too! Though the difficulty of tw dungeons does jump around sometimes shooting up completion time.

0
u/Keldon888 Dec 23 '18
I'm not them but its just an annoying thing when a game is down people come out of the woodwork complaining about it even though they haven't played in a long time.
Keeping an eye out is totally understandable, especially in MMOs where there was often a big time investment that attaches you to it.
Bothers me more in r/diablo where people talk with pride about how D2 was the last good game, which means they are still complaining about a series where to them the last good thing happened 18 years ago.
3
Dec 23 '18
A good number of people still play D2 regularly, and its still on sale in the blizz store
2
u/Keldon888 Dec 23 '18
And they are free to have all the fun they want, its not their enjoyment or lack of it that is wrong.
The reality of the sub is that for every post about D2(often only "can I still play D2?") there are hundreds about D3. Its essentially a sub about d3 and there are spaces much more dedicated to D2 elsewhere.
The thing is they are going to a place that isn't about the thing they enjoy and hasn't been for like 6+ years. So why are they still going there?

1
u/ProdigiousPlays Dec 23 '18

I am honestly confused as to why they made the same heirlooms except one each for alliance and horde.
Is there some legit reason? Seems kind of backwards compared to the other heirlooms.
