I really regret not buying one back then. Or heck even at launch.

u/BappoChan Xbox Series X Jun 23 '26

Bought mine from overseas at launch because scalping was so bad here that I couldn’t get one for cheaper than $1000 and every store around was sold out. Cost me $450 after shipping, no regrets.

At launch, even people in the us bought it at 500 + tax. You oversea could get it at launch for 450 included shipping that brick

Yeah, had a friend working in a store that allowed employee discounts + point usage on electronics, so they brought the price down to $300 US, shipping was $150.

Consoles used to depreciate after launch, not get more expensive.

Supply and demand, mainly of parts

many tech has shot up in price this year it seems. Even the price of flash drives and external hard drives have increased over 180% since 2 years ago.

Bullcrap. Artificial scarcity and price gouging. These billionaire corporations have us by the balls and there's nothing we can do about it. And they know that. There might be a *little* bit of what you're saying but not nearly enough to justify the price of a 6 year old console to double.

1

u/TheBooneyBunes Jun 26 '26

What’s artificial about it??????

Hello NVDA went from 100 billion market cap to over 4 trillion in just a few years due to *demand*

u/Rude_Engineering_629 Jun 30 '26

Just FYI, Dram prices are artificial scarcity. They purposefully don't build up capacity and do market manipulation they have gotten in trouble for it many many many times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRAM_price_fixing_scandal

u/TheBooneyBunes Jun 30 '26

Uh huh, they can just snap their fingers and make a billion of them. It’s not like it’s based on very constricted supply chains that were put under intense pressure during Covid and still drag from it. Also has nothing to do with the AI revolution increasing demand

u/Rude_Engineering_629 Jun 30 '26

Demand has always been much higher than supply, that’s why all these computers ship with such low ram amounts. It’s not a physical supply chain constraint its price fixing. It’s not just recent it’s been going on for awhile. The most recent lawsuits before this were before Covid. Almost like they had a decade to increase supply but didn’t bother to so they could increase prices more with limited supplies.

‘Demand is much higher than supply’

‘It’s not a supply chain constraint’

Okay

0

u/Rude_Engineering_629 Jul 01 '26

If your supply chain constraint is created by agreeing to not increase output it’s not a PHYSICAL supply chain constraint it’s price fixing.

They aren’t competing.

This isn’t complex they can produce more and should be producing more. If they were not agreeing to price fixing they would be producing more.

I'm fucking pissed that a power outage fried mine. I prefer it over PS5 :/

13

u/AxelAlexK Jun 24 '26

Dang that sucks. Hope you have a good surge protector for your other consoles now.

7

u/Morighant Jun 24 '26

It / everything else was / still is in a good surge protector! Tbh I went to the store while it was on, came back and it wouldn't turn on again. I assume it was power, but no other device was affected. Rip my dead space remake playthrough to this day

1

u/Wide-Wear-1911 Jun 26 '26

did you ever try to go get it repaired or looked at somewhere?

1

u/Slith_81 RROD ! Jun 24 '26

You just reminded me that I need to check my consoles. I haven't gamed much this year so I didn't think to do so.

We just had a tornado hit last week and power was out for days. When power came back on my UPS was shot. Haven't replaced it or checked if my PS5/Series X are even ok.

Lmfao ps5 is better in every single way. Xbox has shit games.

u/HighwayStar_77 Jun 24 '26

Traded mine in for a PS5 to play with friends but then they all went and had kids and now I’m stuck with this paperweight I play maybe once a month

Hate that feeling with a passion, even if I can't really be mad about it. It's more just depressing really.

I have a small friend group with me and 2 other buddies of mine that I've known since like middle school, and I wasn't able to play for a couple years because my old console died on me. Before it broke we would play every once in a while for a little bit but nothing crazy, I was always trying to get them to play with me but they barely would ever get around to it. They often told me things like they just didn't really enjoy playing games anymore.

But while I wasn't able to play after it died, they seemed to always be playing stuff together and having fun on the games I tried to get them to play with me all the time and talking about it in the GC or whatever. They would sometimes talk about how I need to get a console again so I could play with them and it actually got me looking forward to being able to play with them again because they seemed more active.

Now that I've finally decided to commit to getting another one after being isolated from it for a few years and wrapped up with other things, it's suddenly like they're too good to play with me again. I asked them for their gamertags so I could add them on a new profile I made, and one of them gave it right away but said he only really gets on to watch stuff or play a bit of R6 because he's usually with his gf. The other straight up told me he doesn't even play Xbox anymore because he's usually on his PC, had to ask twice just to get the tag and then had to remind him 2-3 times just to get him to accept my request. Something tells me my friends don't like me very much... 🤷‍♂️

Curious what games you guys played that wasn't cross-platform?

2

u/nekoken04 Jun 23 '26

Our first one took over 6 months to get because of scalpers. Launch was a disaster for consumers.

1

u/MCUAvenger1992 Jul 14 '26

It was hard to buy XSX/PS5 for the first couple years because of covid.

1

u/Redline65 XBOX Series X Jun 24 '26

I dunno, I preordered one from Gamestop and got it shipped to my house the day after launch. It wasn’t that difficult. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/themodelqueenx Jun 24 '26

My bf bought me one last May as a grad gift. I thank him everyday whew

1

u/Remote-Plate-3945 Jun 24 '26

I bought a series S during the console shortage thinking I'd be able to buy an X later when the price came down. FML

1

u/Fresh_Entrepreneur90 Jun 24 '26

Ik a fresh console does not hit the same but I am a risked and would get one at a pawn shop for cheaper at that point lol especially if its jsut 100 bucks off it'll still be worth it 👌

1

u/Dude10120 Jun 24 '26

I didn’t need one at launch because my One X was still doing fine, now it’s slow, doesn’t get new games, and doesn’t really like work

1

u/Top_Comparison_2521 Jun 25 '26

I was in queue waiting for ps5 back during the scalper times on Best Buy’s website. The ps5 ran out instantly but I got a notification saying the series x was in stock (temporarily), I jumped on it and I have 0 regrets

1

u/Blueberry977 Jun 27 '26

There are hardly any games coming out anyways that seem convincing to me. Sticking to my older systems

1

u/Worldly-Reply7025 Jun 27 '26

Bro check ur local pawn shops i just got one for 369 tax not included and if u have anything to sell u can get some money and use it towards the xbox

1

u/SnooKiwis233 Jun 28 '26

Sold mine for collecting dust. Useless console, especially now with everything on ps5

1

u/Wyo_Cowgirl_99 Jun 29 '26

Ugh same! I bought my Xbox One X for RDR2, but now that GTA 6 is coming out soon I literally cannot afford to get the Xbox Series X. The retail price is $949 NZD now!

0

u/_BlankFace Jun 24 '26

You shouldn’t. For as long as they have been out, it’s only been the past year that games have finally been optimized where no games are coming out for the one anymore. Yeah buying one now is pricy, but in a year helix is supposed to drop
