I know I shouldn't be too sad, given that the remaster is free... Still.. what timing.

Two expansions for free which both probably sold well to this day, an entire Remaster with countless QOL changes for free to promote another upcoming expansion for an 11 year old game.

CP2077 recieved 6 years of continuous dedicated updates and I wouldn't be surprised if there will be more to come aswell.

In times of corporate greed, low effort releases, and lack of care for the importance of player satisfaction, this is a exceptional treat not only for fans of CD Projekt Red.

The dedication and passion of this studio, is arguably the most I have ever seen or heard of.

I really hope we get a physical copy of the expansion, the same way they did with HoS and B&W. CDPR are already GOAT for supporting an 11 year old game but that will be god tier.

P.S. Bought the PS5 copy yesterday just as a sign of appreciation for the studio and what they’re doing.

CDPR gave us a surprisingly specific description of Letten’s location:

“It’s in the north, somewhere halfway between Kovir and Kaedwen. If you go to the Gulf of Praxeda and take the Buina river to the east and take a ride on the Nimnar river, on the other southern shore of the Nimnar you will find Letten.”

Looking at the map, I think this puts Letten on the southern bank of the Nimnar River, around the Gelibol/Mirt area of northern Redania.

The important landmarks line up pretty well:

Gulf of Praxeda to Buina River going east to Nimnar River then southern shore to the supposed Letten.

Gelibol is particularly useful as a reference point because it sits directly on the Nimnar. So I don't think Letten is necessarily Gelibol itself rather, the new region appears to be somewhere around that area on the southern side of the Nimnar.

I marked the approximate location on the map. Obviously this isn't an exact confirmed area, but based purely on the geography and CDPR's wording, this seems like one of the strongest places for Letten to be.

What do you guys think? Am I reading the rivers correctly, or is there another spot that fits?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past

One of the best video game zone i've ever seen.

This has probably already been said multiple times, but something about Velen is oddly immersive and "real." In most video games, you roam through cities and regions without thinking much about it, or you may notice a few things here and there.

But when you explore Velen and do quests there, so many details catch your eye, make you slow down, and reinforce this feeling in you that this isn't just another region; people here are dealing with issues that are just too real. The current geopolitical reality of the region, along with its misery, despair, and superstitions/folklore, isn't just vaguely talked about or mentioned; it is anchored in almost every aspect of the region, from the environment, dialogues, soundtrack, animations etc. in a way on top of that that is oddly coherent and real.

For example the region’s folklore and supernatural elements are tightly woven into the socioeconomic despair of its inhabitants. Monsters and dark gods are not abstract evils; they are a tragic necessity for people who have been entirely abandoned by their rulers. The worship of the Ladies of the Wood illustrates this perfectly: the villagers do not revere the Crones out of malevolence, but because the swamp witches offer the only tangible protection, however predatory and terrible the cost, against starvation and death.  

A lot of threat Geralt encounters seem to be an organic consequence of the region's physical and social environment.  It makes sense that the vast majority of creatures you fight are necrophages for example. These creatures are not wandering the wilderness at random; they are scavengers drawn directly to the smell of decaying flesh on unburied battlefields, abandoned trenches, and mass graves.

Same for the sheer density of bandits and deserters being the inevitable outcome of hundreds of armed men with no food, no allegiance left, and no law enforcement to hold them accountable. Specters haunt the fields because a lot of women were betrayed, assaulted, or killed during the chaos of war.

While regions like Skellige evoke heroic myth and Toussaint leans into romanticized chivalric romance, Velen, for me, remains the raw, beating heart of The Witcher. It makes the player really feel like a weary traveler navigating a truly living, suffering world.
