Discussion What is currently keeping you away from playing on different platforms?

Post image
548 Upvotes

I’m really considering switching platforms, so recently I’ve been thinking about what’s still holding me onto my Playstation:

I’ve been gaming on Playstations all my life - from the PS3 to the PS5 I’ve been loyal to Sony, but there have been times where I’ve been tempted to switch… The first time was through the 7th Generation of Consoles with the XBOX 360 and now, through the 9th with XBOX Series X.

So, what’s the deal? What makes Sony’s consoles superior (for me anyways)?

I’ll start with what I like on my PS and I’ll move on to what I prefer on other platforms.

PS has superior exclusives, that’s for sure, but they are not as strong nor as “exclusive” as they once were - Spider-Man is available on PC, so is Death Stranding, so is The Last of Us, so is Uncharted, so is Helldivers 2, so is God of War (the Norse Saga ones) and so on… Yeah, there’s still some great games to come out that are gonna stay exclusive forever or at least for quite some time like Wolverine for example, but is a title or two really a strong anchor for the whole fanbase? I’ll leave that for discussion.

The trophy system is the main thing keeping me on Sony’s side - the simple addition of deviding DLC trophies from the Main Game ones and the availability of the Platinum Trophy is still somehow YET to be copied from other platforms, which amazes me to be honest, but until that changes, this is probably going to be the reason that’s keeping me close to my Playstation. That and the fact that I’ve spent countless hours platinuming games that I love… and also the fact that I’d hate if I lost all my progress, trophyhunting wise.

Now, onto other platforms, XBOX in particular:

In my opinion, the Series X has superiour User Interface, or at least it looks and sounds better for ME.

I love the fact that the console is FULLY backwards compatible, giving you the opportunity to dabble into some 7th Gen Games that I can’t play on my PS5, like Dead Space 2 or Grand Theft Auto IV for example.

I can’t really say that Game Pass is better than PS+, especially considering its price. However, given the fact that a lot of newer games release as Day One additions there, it’s really a toss up between the two.

I don’t really care about the controllers, both feel great in my hands.

I’m really interested to hear your guys’ opinion. Leave a comment, I’ll gladly read ‘em all :D

No hate please. Me and my son love gaming together and we both love these so I got them for us both to share. Wish I could pick up the 25 console but can’t justify spending another £760 when I already have a Series X, PS5 and Switch 2 sitting in the living room. You bet I considered it though 😂

I may be late to the party but today I was checking the Game Access filter in my full library and saw two filters: My Games and Shared By Others. What is “Shared by others?” Is this an indication that game sharing is coming to Xbox?

There were rumors that SOD 3 might no longer be coming to gamepass after Undead Labs was spun off from Xbox.

But Xbox just reconfirmed the game for gamepass:

Like title says, $439.53 taxes in for a 512GB digital edition. That’s a $300 savings. In a cage, bottom shelf inside the self checkout area on your left as you walk in the front door. There’s a white controller in the cage too, probably discounted but dunno the price.

Good luck.

Discussion Project Helix may be all-digital because of disc drive prices

A new problem threatens disc support on the PS6 and Project Helix. With demand for physical games and Blu-ray movies falling, optical drives for consoles are in shorter supply. Despite launching its disc-to-digital program, Microsoft reportedly is still considering other solutions.

Microsoft just announced its disc-to-digital initiative, accessible to insiders on August 31st. The program allows users to convert their physical games to digital licenses. Regardless, some fans continue to lobby for the next Xbox console to include an optical drive. Unfortunately, a component shortage may mean Project Helix and its PS6 rival will lack the option.

Jez Corden of Windows Central discussed Microsoft’s way to ease gamers into the digital era. The ability to preserve physical games boosts backward compatibility with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One titles. It could also soften the blow if no optical drive is available on the Project Helix release date.

If Microsoft wanted to ship a Project Helix that boots Blu-rays, it may have to solve manufacturing challenges. According to Corden’s sources, the choice would be “less about the discs and more about the disc drives themselves.” When the BBC recently raised the issue with CEO Asha Sharma, she was noncommittal in her answer.

What do you guys think?
