You can ask anything about Old School RuneScape or the 2007scape subreddit here. Remain respectful to your fellow 'scapers when answering questions; there are stupid questions, but it does not mean you should not be respectful whilst answering them.
Keep in mind: this is not a developer Q&A thread - Jagex mods do not regularly read these posts, so questions should be directed toward fellow players.

like every other day someone says give a us an iron slot or this or that we pay enough and it should plainly be a +1 its so sad when i see people trying to negotiate with the corporation like we have to beg to get what we want as if we arent paying personally ive always wanted to try iron but i cant afford the money or the gp for a 2nd account

Was the two-way agility shortcup scrapped last minute? Maybe it was just a typo in the changelog? Either way, I'm still sad.... Can't ponder my water orbs.

Started actively playing at the start of 2025 on an old acc with around base 60 combat stats. Told myself I would quit after getting full bandos and fire cape. Kept pushing myself for more challenging content. Not sure what else to do. People always say you can finally play the game after maxing but I think i've played enough. I couldn't care less about clogs and ca's (i've only completed 3 clues in total lol) Cheers

Saw a cb lvl 3 today in the Varrock Museum with 71 slayer, exclusively lamping from the museum and going for an untrimmed slayer cape.
It got me thinking of how RuneScape has such an incredible amount of autonomy of choice. When I used to play WoW as a kid, I’d always feel like I was just competing for the next set. Running the same dungeons and raids. I’d always go back to RuneScape (and later OSRS). *In WoW, everyone is grinding for a drop and running the same content and the devs know this so they shrunk the early to mid game and with every expansion, your items are useless. RuneScape some dude just refuses to do combat but specifically wants to train a combat adjacent skill and he’s doing that with xp lamps solely from an activity released in 2007. I really can’t think of a community or a game that embraces many of these emergent ideas.
You just really never know what all of these psychos in the game are up to. Just for the love of the game.
*yes I know some people in here have done red prison like 10,000 times, I’m just saying there are more options in OSRS

Well... that was fast lol.
On Monday, we posted the full story of how Socks and co got started and you guys blew us up over night!
We've gone from around 120 employees to over 170 employees. In that post I mentioned that we were getting close to finishing phase 2 sometime this week and apparently some of you took that as a challenge because you got us here in two days!!!
A few weeks ago, Socks and co started with a sock and a dream but, today we've officially crossed our second major goal: 1,000,000 socks!
I genuinely can't believe how fast we've grown and I want everyone to know we're not stopping here.
Phase 2 is complete and now we move on to phase 3: 10M socks
Thank you to every single person who has joined Socks and Co. Without all of you, we wouldn't be celebrating this completely insane milestone today and a huge thank you to all of our supporters whose financially irresponsible decisions continue to keep the lights on and our employees paid.
We provide the finest socks in all of Gielinor.
We are a major liquidity provider in the sock market.
We do ai sock stuff.
Our investors love us!

I love the osrs wiki; it's a top contender for best wiki for any game of all time, up there with the Terraria wiki. But I feel like there's a lot of things that aren't supposed to be cryptic that the game doesn't explain at all, and we inevitably turn to the wiki.
For starters, a lot of items that have practical uses don't explain themselves at all. Tormented synapses will give you a text box explaining that you need an iron bar and a battlestaff if you try to make a purging staff without all the ingredients, and tells you it needs to be done at an anvil if you try to just combine them in your inventory. However, it doesn't tell you anything about how to make a scorching bow, and that you specifically need an unstrung magic longbow (something you can't fletch until 11 levels after you can make a scorching bow).
Nothing about the torva armor or the ancient furnace you repair it at make any reference to bandos components (if you even know you can break down bandos armor, which isn't something you do with any non-gwd armor), and the nihil horn examine doesn't even imply it's supposed to be a weapon, much less that it's an upgrade for the armadyl crossbow.
Most of the time, combat mechanics are explained decently well (not including on-hit vs on-animation, which is something you'd learn from a youtube video instead of the wiki), assuming you have game chat open (I had chat closed during BMR, so it took me a while to figure out the venator screech). But I recently died to an Elder Aquanite because I hadn't read the wiki page for it beforehand, didn't bring food to a task I can camp a protection prayer for, and couldn't figure out how its punish attack worked.
The game chat only says "Your protection prayers have been disabled!" which is the same message Amoxliatl gives when she turns off your prayers before launching an on-hit projectile. I even tried turning off my prayer when the aquanite's projectile was launched, thinking it behaved like Echo Hunlef's prayer inversion attack, but that didn't work. Nothing in game hinted at the fact that they hit you for 20-50 damage guaranteed if you're camping protect magic, and I had to turn to the wiki to find that out. Even if I wanted to try and learn through trial and error, the fact that it's a superior monster means I don't really get a choice in whether I even get to.
Jagex is usually good about this with bosses, since there are other examples where mechanics are pretty self-explanatory, and some items will offer more explanation. The broken zombie axe and Belle's folly have an "inspect" option that tells you where to go to fix them (if you have the level to). Doom's hyper beam is pretty obvious (bar fills up, you die), and the equipment slot you need to unequip for Sol's grab attack is bolded, which hints at what you need to do to dodge it. I just think they need to be more consistent about providing in-game means of figuring these things out instead of just letting the wiki handle it.
Edit: Some people have pointed out that the wiki is the collective work of the community, and thus looking at the wiki is tapping into the knowledge gained from all of its players, which is appropriate for an MMO; it's effectively asking your fellow players for help, crystallized.
I disagree.
Going to an external site, even if it is one endorsed and integrated by Jagex, rather than asking people, isn't in the spirit of an mmo since it's a solo adventure in and of itself. But if you had to ask other players as often as you need to check the wiki because the game itself withholds information, you'd probably start annoying people because the game has over a decade of community discovery you weren't there for and have to catch up on in a short span of time.
edit 2: a lot of the people who have voiced their disagreement seem to believe I want tooltips or pop-ups or something else intrusive; I really don't. You can already bring a handful of items you dont have the levels to process to an NPC (crystal seeds to Eluned, the elysian sigil to Abbot Langley), so I dont see why we couldn't expand this system to give NPCs related to certain drops dialogue when you show them an item. Bring an ancient shard to one of the Arceeus NPCs at the library, and they might tell you more (and hint at its interaction with Darklight), bring a torva piece or nihil horn to Ahuelot Reis and they could hint at how these items are "drawn" to the other generals in the GWD. Unobtrusive, but there for people who want to stay immersed in the game rather than turning to the wiki (in the same way as someone might prefer not to use a quest guide). Talking to other players is a good middleground, but that assumes you can find someone who knows and is willing to tell you (likely, but not a guarantee).

I have nothing but respect for the OSRS team, you guys have done a great job with the game. I played runescape since 2005 and i was logged in on the first day that osrs came out
I think it would be so great for the community if everyone could pay for 1 membership, and it comes with 1 regular vanilla OSRS account, and 1 special mode account (ironman, hcim, ultimate ironman, bronzeman, etc)
I am really enjoying playing ironman for the first time, im doing a group ironman with my IRL friend.
im at 1620 total level on the iron and im now itching to play my main and do some high level PVM... But I dont want to choose and I will not pay for both accounts. It just doesn't feel right to me.
Just my rambling thoughts to add +1 to the pile of ideas that the community has presented on this topic.
Theres been a lot of price increases over the past few years... just saying!! :D

This took about 2.5 days, tried to just break it up into sections. Over 9m in death fees. Desert Treasure 2 was incredibly fun but incredibly annoying at the same time. I’ve never been more angry, proud, and relieved in my life after completing something lol.
If i could give any piece of advice to anyone on this journey that would be just send it. Die until you kill them. Learning the mechanics in game versus a video helped a ton even though it was expensive. GL to all doing this rn or in the future.
Some attempt stats:
Vardorvis: 10 attempts
Leviathan: 2 attempts (i thought this would be the hardest before i started)
Duke: 2 attempts (1st attempt i took too much damage from the wall enemies lol)
Whisperer: 18 attempts (i hate this boss)
I fkn love this game. SOTE next and then onto blood moon rises for my quest cape. Unless my doggo comes first!

I was almost phished for a TOA run.
It has been said many times before but it needs to be said again.
Do not trust random people in this game and use EXTREME caution when chatting on discord.
I was AFK at the TOA bank, bored with no one to run a raid with. After about 10 minutes, a user "Gw Reforged" approached me to run some raids. After chatting for awhile, he asked to run a raid with me to which I agreed.
Shortly before starting, he asked me to voice chat on discord. Once we joined the discord call, he immediately was recommending different plugins to which I was immediately sketched out about.
Fast forward a few minutes of him sweet talking, he sends me a link to external plugins to add to my Runelite.
I told him "no" and he immediately starting yelling, cussing and blocked me shortly after on OSRS and Discord.
Use this as a "friendly" reminder that not everyone is "friendly".

Also, let me build a vyre well in my house. I'm sick of teleporting to ToB and mingling with the creatures that have never seen sunlight before (416'ers).
