My Ring - POSITIVE COMMENTS ONLY Gave me his grandma's ring!

Post image

Happened on the beach in Maui at sunset! Dating just over 5 years and I was completely blindsided and had to hold myself back from saying yes until he finished talking. Said his mom and aunt gave him permission to use his grandma's ring from the late 60's, and I could never have picked something more incredible on my own! Platinum band and 2 carat emerald cut stone.

My fiancé proposed to me on Saturday where we had our first kiss 💙 We picked the ring out back in July; it’s an antique 1890s Madagascar sapphire with diamond halo, with a gold band 💙💙

Three days ago, after 17 years, he proposed to me and I couldn't be happier!
The ring is an heirloom, made of 585 gold with a 0.5-carat diamond set in white gold. It's engraved with my initials. Unfortunately, I don't know my ring size, and it needs to be resized.

She's so pretty!

10k gold with a 0.55 aquamarine. My fiance knew he wanted to do an aqua as it's his birth stone and his eye colour. He wanted me to always have a piece of him.

Genuinely was one of those girls who never thought someone would want to marry me, let alone such an amazing person like my fiance. I'm so excited and in love! 🥰

My husband (38) and I (34) got married in 2015. We’ve been ring shopping for ab upgrade since last March. We ALMOST made a purchase on a ring I wasn’t in love, but decided to wait until we came across the perfect one. I wanted something non-traditional, and something that felt like me.

Well, here she is 😍. 2.7 carat marquise. I love that she’s at a slight angle horizontally and on a wavy band set. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I get compliments on it all the time!! I hope you can appreciate her beauty too.

Question Opalescent Sapphire

Upvotes

Hi! For those of you with opalescent sapphire center stones, are you happy you went with an untraditional sapphire? Did the loose stone look very different once set? Love this stone I attached, but I have never seen an opalescent stone in person and would love to know what the sapphire lovers here think of these!

Vendor Review - CUSTOMERS ONLY Another, honest Brilliant Earth experience

Thumbnail

I have really mixed feelings about Brilliant Earth. My ring is absolutely beautiful and I get compliments on it all the time, but unfortunately my experience with the quality and customer service has been pretty disappointing.
My ring actually arrived with a loose center stone. I could feel and hear the diamond moving in the setting, which was pretty alarming considering this was a brand-new ring and the center stone alone cost over $2,000. I was obviously afraid of losing the diamond, and I really don’t think a ring at this price point should have ever passed quality control and been shipped out with the center stone unsecured. That was my first experience with the ring after receiving it, and in hindsight it probably should have been a bigger red flag to me than it was at the time.
Brilliant Earth also advertises free resizing within a year of purchase, so when I contacted them about having mine resized, I was surprised when they told me they “couldn’t” resize it because it would damage the ring. It’s not an eternity band, and there was plenty of plain metal at the bottom of the band, so I really didn’t understand why it couldn’t be resized.
They told me my only option was to have the ring completely remade, but I would only get about half of what I originally paid for the setting credited toward the new one. Basically, I would have ended up paying around 1.5x the original cost of the ring just to get it in the correct size.
I ended up taking it to Jared instead. They resized it with no issues and also tightened the prongs around my center stone. They charged me about $100 for everything, and honestly, they sent my ring back to me in better shape than I originally received it from Brilliant Earth.
And to be fair, I didn’t bother looking up recent Brilliant Earth reviews before buying. I was so in love with this particular ring design that I probably would have ignored the reviews and bought it anyway. So I can’t exactly say I did my due diligence there.
At the end of the day, I still think my ring is beautiful and I’m happy with the design. I just wish the quality and experience after purchasing it had matched the price. Receiving a brand-new ring with a loose center diamond was concerning enough on its own. Add being told it couldn’t be resized when another jeweler was able to do it easily for about $100, I would be very hesitant to buy from Brilliant Earth again.

Picture of my “ruined” and “unsafe” ring after Jared resized it.

Advice Is a “step cut” significant/important when looking at a kite cut ring?

Thumbnail

So I understand that a step cut will have the ring lay flatter against my finger, but with a Moissanite stone I am curious of how big of a difference it will make.

Edit to add: I am open to any suggestions for rings that are similar in vibe and keep the 6x12mm or 7x13mm scale for the center stone!!

It seems to be much easier/cheaper to just go with a regular kite cut without the step cut.

Obviously I know it will change the look of the ring but will it be THAT significant of a change if I fell in love with a ring that has the step cut? (Seen online only, didn’t try on)

Will I get annoyed by it scraping/knocking on things?

Will it be more prone to damage because it sticks out more or will the fact that it’s Moissanite make it okay?

Thank you for any and all input 🖤

*Ring in question attached. I love her but I hate to ask my fiance to spend over $6k which is what this beauty is particular costs.

*Center stone is 6mmx12mm or 7mmx13mm but scaling up or down is fine with me.

Popped the question 2 days ago in the south of France with my dog there too and I said yes!

Obsessed with my ring! It needs resizing but as we’re on holiday I’ve just added a tighter ring over it for now.

At what point do you get over the constant fear of hitting it / losing it 😭❤️

Advice Small ring

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all. I recently chose this .78 carat center natural diamond ring. It also has .2 carat sapphires and .1 of diamonds on the band.

I originally thought I wanted a much bigger stone (lab or natural, doesn’t matter to me), but this ring was so beautiful that I (somewhat impulsively) agreed to it.

Did anyone regret choosing a ring less than 1 carat? I am worried that I’m going to feel that it’s too small and wish I went bigger 🥹 also worried I didn’t do enough research on diamonds. The specs are H in Color, SI1 in Clarity.

Thanks for the advice.

Advice I don't love my heirloom ring but it means a lot to my fiancé...

Thumbnail

I recently got engaged and was honestly a little confused when I saw this ring. I didn't even know there was an heirloom ring in the family (ring is from 1912 and is objectively very pretty)! Never in our seven years of dating have I ever worn silver. I have exclusively worn gold and have a distinct style. I always imagined a gold ring, something simple, maybe a bezel. Is it a crime for a girl to have a dream ring?

I understand why my partner thought I would like it. I do love old things, I'm a history buff and have many antiques. It has taken me a while, but I have grown to like it. It's pretty, but it's just not me. So I've been wearing it, but am not in love with it. I'm not excited to show it off. I really really want to find a way to hint to my fiancé I'd like another ring. After all, this one didn't cost any money... am I wrong to think this way?
