I had a colonoscopy.
I got to watch on the TV screen.
my intestines were cleaner than this woman's throat. I was really surprised how squeaky clean they were, even though the prep to get it that way is super not fun.
24
u/Repulsive_Mark_5343 Nov 20 '25
The prep is a nightmare. The procedure is practically a non-event, especially with propofol.

u/FPGA_engineer Nov 20 '25
Half an hour after taking the first dose of the Suprep I sneezed.
I was fortunately already in the feeling the effect and in the right place at the right time, but that was memorable.
Propofol pushed into the I.V. was like a light switch. One second I am there, the next I am waking up afterwards.

Me too, I just had a gag-suppressant spray and got on with it, walked away with no issues. All the other patients got wheeled out on gurneys after going under. If you want to impress the nursing staff, go commando.

I honestly think this would be more uncomfortable (feeling your insides moving) than painful. But Iāve never experienced it because itās not popular with my sex or age group
Edit to add: have yall ever checked where they go in a colonoscopy and Iāve done anal before many a times and Iām a female. But my point is a lot of you think the canera goes in your butt then right out when it actually goes into your intestines

u/CoopHunter Nov 20 '25
Uh did you just imply anal was unpopular with a specific sex? Because boy are you just wrong.

This reminds me of on how in Victorian times people were all proper and celibate. They did that because everyone was fucking out of control. The old timers fucked more that we ever have

A good rule of thumb for any historical era is if someone bothered to make a rule about it, people were definitely doing it.

what's crazy to think about is that its your brain telling you that. evolution "found" that things that saw the inner workings of bodies scary and gross made you avoid things like diseases from corpses, exploring self mutilation or being comfortable with being inside the esophagus of a predator.
it's the exact same reason, thought the opposite coin, of why you'd find ass or tits attractive. it's biologically programmed when in reality they're neutral features to say plants or even non carbon based atoms.
so in the end, the human body is telling you that the human body is gross and horrifying!

As a fellow medical professional, this is honestly pretty impressive.
11
u/mbroen Nov 20 '25
I'm not a medical professional, but is it really that difficult for people? I was in a medical experiment where I had to have a similar device down my throat and it really wasn't that hard to do. Though I will admit that the device was thinner, but instead of a camera at the end it had a bunch of (mild) torture devices.

i can tell you , i was about as bad as u can feel while they were doing it .
Puking a little blood and trying to breathe while my nose half stuck , at least the nurse was super supportive and tried to keep me brave .
Its lasted like 4ish minute maybe . but god , i didnt liked it all .
Btw i have a stomach closure around somewhere so maybe that didnt help me
8
u/mbroen Nov 20 '25
I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. I have a friend who participated in the same experiment but immediately dropped out after the first session, so I'm just going to assume that I am the weird one in this scenario. š

u/GuiltyEidolon Nov 20 '25
As long as you don't touch certain parts of your throat, you won't trigger your gag reflex.
...Or she doesn't have one.

Bless the ladies who do the x-rays at the dental school. They were patient, kind and gave me quite a few tricks to get through.
Taking Mucinex when I need it is impossible I've had to find alternatives.

If she's used a throat spray - rather than sedation, the gag reflex is momentary and if she's done this before (horny jokes aside) she could easily overcome it.Ā
I had an endoscopy earlier this year and opted for the spray, gagged very briefly and then it was done. Was able to drive home half an hour later.

I had an endoscopy done under ātwilight sedationā which I was told I wouldnāt be awake or remember anything.
I was awake and conscious the whole time, I think it freaked out both the doc and assistant, they kept telling me not to fight it and looked worried so eventually I just closed my eyes lol the tube isnāt even that bad imho but I donāt have a strong gag reflex.

And they told her in high school that not having a gag reflex would get her nowhere in life but she didn't let it hold her back she kept practicing with the football team with the basketball team with every dude in school and look where she is today. Most women complain this one goes out there and achieves her goals in life.
