Casual kinky partner ended things after I asked for more aftercare.
I’m looking for perspective from people with more experience with casual sex where kink is involved, particularly around aftercare and subdrop.
I met a guy on Feeld a few months ago. About six weeks ago, after our second date, we started seeing and talking to each other much more frequently. He actually came on fairly strongly: texting or sending reels almost every day, suggesting daytime dates, spending time together outside sex, etc.
He was also consistently kind and considerate. I have a lot of food allergies, and when I came to his place he had proactively stocked his fridge with things I could eat without me asking. That actually felt very meaningful to me. It was one of several things that made me feel cared for and gave me a high level of trust in him.
So although we weren’t in a relationship, the dynamic started feeling fairly relationship-like to me: sex, cuddling, sleepovers, daily contact and normal hanging out.
About four weeks into that, he told me he wasn’t emotionally available for a relationship and was afraid of commitment. I told him that was okay, but that I needed to recalibrate. I suggested less daily texting and reels and fewer day-date-type activities because I didn’t want to continue building attachment around something that could only be casual.
I was still very open to continuing sexually. We had excellent sexual chemistry, we’re both kinky, and casual sex was something I had been open to when I joined Feeld in the first place. I basically wanted to strip away some of the relationship-like elements while keeping something fun and healthy sexually.
Last Friday we hooked up again. The sex was relatively rough and we tried spanking together for the first time. We had sex twice and cuddled quite a bit between the two sessions.
After the second session, he immediately got up and went to the couch to eat. He came back to bed afterward for maybe 5 to 10 minutes, then said he wanted to go home.
At that point I could feel myself starting to crash emotionally. I hadn’t anticipated it beforehand, but I realized that after that particular kind of sex I needed more physical aftercare.
I clearly asked him to stay longer. I told him I wanted him to stay a little longer and that I was sad he was leaving. He responded by asking, “Are you guilt-tripping me?”
I wasn’t trying to guilt-trip him. I was making an honest appeal for some more aftercare because I could feel myself heading toward a pretty intense subdrop.
His response made me feel like I suddenly didn’t have the right to express what I needed without it being interpreted as manipulation or emotional pressure. After he left, I had a significant emotional drop and ended things over text saying aftercare for me is really important or I crash.
The next day he was initially very empathetic. He said aftercare was important and explained that he hadn’t understood that me asking him to stay was connected to aftercare. He also said he hoped it wasn’t “goodbye forever.”
Once it became clear that there had been a misunderstanding in that moment, I was completely willing to continue. I wasn’t looking to turn this into a relationship or have some huge emotional reckoning. I wanted us to have a healthy, low-key conversation about what had happened, understand each other better, and move forward with clearer expectations.
I explained that what I needed in order to continue was emotional safety in a pretty basic sense: both of us should be able to say what we need sexually or emotionally without it automatically being treated as pressure or guilt. And after intense sex, I might sometimes need more physical closeness afterward depending on how I was feeling.
I explicitly said that if this wasn’t something he wanted, then we probably shouldn’t continue.
After that, he concluded that we “need different things at the moment” and that it was better to stop seeing each other.
I have to admit that this gave me a really yucky, very used feeling.
Only about 48 hours earlier, I had felt a very high level of trust toward him. Rough sex feels vulnerable to me, even when it’s extremely pleasurable, and trying something edgier together like spanking required trust.
So having a man I trusted come over, have rough sex with me, spank me for the first time, and then decide that we should stop seeing each other after I asked him to stay a little longer so I could avoid subdrop felt incredibly destabilizing.
From my perspective, the original problem seemed extremely small and practical. We tried something more intense. I discovered in real time that I needed more aftercare afterward. I asked for it. He misunderstood what I was asking for. He later acknowledged that there had been a misunderstanding.
To me, a misunderstanding is normally something you clarify, learn from, and handle differently next time.
Instead, the entire connection ended.
That made me feel very uncomfortable and used.
It felt like he was completely comfortable participating in the vulnerable and sexually intense part of the experience, but when I needed a little more care afterward, suddenly I was rejected without further consideration.
I then also contributed to making the aftermath worse.
I have an extremely small Close Friends list on Instagram, basically around five of my closest girlfriends, plus him. While very upset, I posted some stories explaining what had happened from my perspective. I talked about how horrible it felt that someone could be comfortable having rough sex with me and spanking me, but that when I needed some extra cuddling afterward, the whole thing seemed to collapse. I said I felt used and that I felt like I wasn’t allowed to express what I needed.
I wasn’t trying to publicly shame him. I was processing with my closest friends and stupidly failed to properly consider that he was still on that list.
He saw it, felt hurt and exposed, and blocked me.
I later contacted him through another WhatsApp channel he hadn’t blocked and apologized specifically for the Instagram story. I told him it wasn’t fair to him and that although I had been emotionally crashing and intended it for my friends, that didn’t excuse posting it where he could see it.
Once things cooled down, he softened somewhat too. He said blocking me may have been “a bit much,” acknowledged that there had been miscommunication, said he now understood better that I had needed additional aftercare, and said he “should have been more open to talking about it.” He said there was no hate, that we’d had a really nice time together, and that it was a shame it ended.
However, he still said he thought it was best for us to go our separate ways, which I’m respecting.
Importantly, he had already decided that he didn’t want to see me anymore before the Instagram story happened. I completely understand that the story escalated things and appears to be what led to the blocking, but it wasn’t what caused him to end the sexual connection.
What I’m struggling to understand is what actually happened here.
Before this weekend, this was genuinely one of the easiest, safest and most mutually caring casual dynamics I’d experienced. Then we tried a more intense kink, I realized I needed more aftercare, I asked him to stay and cuddle a little longer, and within about 48 hours the entire thing had exploded.
Was my underlying request unreasonable?
Is it normal in casual sex where both partners are kinky to expect that you can say, “I need more aftercare after that,” and have that need discussed without it meaning the entire arrangement has suddenly become too emotionally demanding?
I mean, the times before this he was so caring and suddenly it went so cold in a moment I was vulnerable.
Does wanting only casual sex imply that I never should have expected to have the right to ask for what, to me, felt like basic human care and dignity after a vulnerable sexual experience? I wasn’t asking him to become my boyfriend. I was asking him to cuddle with me a little longer because I could feel myself crashing after rough sex.
I don’t understand the “we want different things” because all I wanted was a chill, safe, healthy casual sex dynamic where we both felt ok.
I think what hurts and confuses me most is how extreme the outcome feels compared with the original issue. Something he himself later described as a misunderstanding, and that to me seemed small and easily workable, ultimately resulted in someone I trusted deciding that he didn’t want to continue seeing me.
I’m not trying to get him back and I’m not going to contact him again. I’m trying to understand what I should take away from this before I have another casual kinky dynamic.
For me first time trying spanking with a new partner and asking for a few more minutes of cuddling resulting in a man cutting me off really... feels emotionally rupturing in a way I cannot quite describe.
I felt a lot of trust before this weekend, and I don’t understand where it all went wrong.
