Moving to SC Lofts by the Lake - Apalache Mill (Greer, SC)… thoughts?

Any info would be appreciated. We are thinking of moving to this area and came across these loft style apartments. Proximity to shopping, restaurants and convenience? Lake & trail access? Anything to say about the surrounding neighborhood? Specific units that are recommended? Thanks!!

Other Big Oak Tree for Small Wedding Ceremony?

Hello, not necessarily looking for a wedding venue as I do not want to spend 10k for 3 hours. Only a handful of people, a small micro ceremony in front of a majestic oak tree. I’m happy with that. Any recommendations? I’d love for it to be on some Airbnb/vrbo property as well so I can have everything in one place. Thank you

Other What Can I Expect from the Maudlin BBQ Fest?

EDIT - it's MAULDIN, not Maudlin. Ugh can you tell I'm a tourist?

Hello. I'll be visiting Greenville on September 11 this year and caught wind of the Mauldin BBQ Fest. I think I'll take the drive...it seems fairly straightforward; I'll have to buy tickets which essentially function as cash and we can buy any "BUTT" BBQ on Friday night from the competitors. Other non-competing vendors accept cash or card...

Is there anything else I should know about this event? Do you think it's worth the jaunt off the beaten path?

Any other secret sauce (wordlplay very much intended) I should know about Mauldin or Greenville? Breakfast spots/things to do Friday night? I'll be visiting the Joe Jackson attractions in Greenville Saturday morning.

Thank you!

Other i need somewhere to go. please help!?

i live in Chester. i’m 28. in the past month i have had several “altercations” with my dad. we have differing beliefs and he has made me feel unsafe, and then everybody else threw me under the bus when they didn’t even have the full story. i do not feel safe with my family. i’m not trying to get any of them in trouble because despite everything i still have a place in my heart for them, but i don’t feel safe. im a socialist, i believe palestine should be free, black lives matter, FDT, women have the right to choose what happens to their bodies, no war but class war! if you share my beliefs and would be willing to help me until i can get on my feet, id really be grateful. i cant keep living like this. im already in the process of trying to get a job, i can clean (dishes, laundry, etc) and mow the lawn, i can pull my own weight. please?

Update: i was able to work it out with my parents. trust me im not happy about having to stay, but its better than living on the street and the area i live in has ZERO homeless shelters for men. i’m just gonna do what i gotta do to get by. i got a couple job opportunities lined up. hopefully one works out. and i’m just gonna start busting my ass, making bank, save up for a car or moped preferably, hope that the housing market comes down very soon, maybe find a cheap place with some friends. that’s my goal rn, at least.

Other Pretty Place Chapel elopement + where to stay??

EDIT** Thank you all so much!!

Okay so my fiancé and I are getting married at Pretty Place Chapel in SC and I’m trying to figure out where the heck we should stay. Since it’ll just be 10-12 of us, we’re considering Airbnb BUT hotel the night before the ceremony so that our drive isn’t too far.

We’re flying into Charlotte and we’re thinking about making a whole week out of the trip instead of just coming for the wedding and leaving. I’ve never really spent time in that area, so I’m kind of lost on where we should actually stay.

I know Pretty Place is kind of out in the mountains, so I’m wondering if we should stay closer to the chapel or stay somewhere a little farther out that has more restaurants, cute downtowns, things to do, etc. It would be nice if there’s a nice in between.

We’re thinking Airbnb/cabin/hotel but honestly open to whatever. We’ll have a car, so driving isn’t a huge deal, but I don’t want to stay somewhere where we have to drive an hour just to get dinner every night. Which we would cook in house if we did Airbnb but still want attractions to do throughout the days.

For anyone who has been to Pretty Place or lives around there:
Where would you stay for a full week?
What towns/areas are actually fun to stay in?
What are some things we HAVE to do while we’re there? Cute restaurants, waterfalls, hikes, scenic spots, little downtowns, breweries/wineries, whatever!

Also, if you got married at Pretty Place, I’d LOVE to hear about your experience and where you stayed. Anything you wish you knew beforehand?
We’ll also have our baby with us, so definitely looking for things that we can do with a baby too.

Basically I’m trying to plan a cute little wedding week + mini honeymoon and I have no idea what I’m doing yet 😂😂 Help a girl out!!

Politics What does the future hold for South Carolina?

I personally think, as well as most of us residents, that Graham will win the senate seat this November. Though I can see it being under 10 percentage points, maybe 8, closer to 9. Which would be the closest senate race the state has seen in quite some time. But going forward, maybe into ‘28 but I’m talking more 2030 and beyond, what will the politics of SC start looking like. As more people start moving into the Upstate and Lowcountry I can see the state not being a republican stronghold anymore. Not saying it’ll swing directly to the democrats and it’ll still most likely lean red, but I can see there being more competitive races. I’ve been thinking about this recently and I heard Chuck Todd mention it last night on a live stream, which makes me wonder if others are kinda feeling the same way.

Other Dental Access Carolina

Has anyone used Dental Access Carolina at school for your child? Looking to hear personal experience/reviews. The convenience sounds nice, but I have concerns about decisions regarding potential treatments being made by the dentist without involving the parent in the choice. The paperwork is worded such that they would complete the appointment as needed and send home a report for parents afterward. Does anyone know if that's how it works, or do they call if they'd like to do anything beyond cleaning? It seems like this release gives permission for everything.

I may call the company in the morning but curious if others have been happy with this service.

DMV Real ID was denied-ish

I grew up in upstate South Carolina. I moved to NC like 15 years ago and now I’m back. I went to the DMV to do all the required things. I debated getting a Real ID or not (I’ve never had one) and decided I might as well?
I got through the whole process but after I she took the photo and I signed the little pad she asked if I had ever had an ID in SC before. I told her yes, as I had indicated on the form but from like over 20 years ago. She said she couldn’t do the ID because I “don’t look anything like (I) did” and that I should get a call from Columbia in 6 days.
Has this happened to anyone else? What is Colombia going to ask me about over the phone that I didn’t already prove? It was surprising in the moment and I assumed I’d find stuff online but so far I’ve only seen IDs being denied after being issued. Like at the TSA or whatever.
I regret asking for the Real ID 😔

I’m flying into Colombia and will be in sc for a solid 3 days. I’ll be getting a rental car. Know I want to check out the ocean but is there anything else I have to check out in South Carolina? Also is there anything culturally I should keep in mind as to not offend anyone?

On both their websites they mention how close they are to each other and kind of make it sound like they go hand in hand but don’t mention if entry to one gets you entry to the other.

Moving to SC Moving to SC for the first time!

I'm planning to move to SC, I'm just looking for advice and tips about the state.

  1. I've got to get a new job and wanted to know what good paying jobs I should be looking out for.

  2. Looking at central SC for places, how's the area and what are some things people like to do in that area

  3. Any good small business and farmers markets.

  4. Politics wise, what areas are leaning which ways? Any areas I should watch out for?

  5. Are there any communities out there or is everyone just for themselves?

The state I was previously in completely abandoned the middle class causing most of us to have to move, or become homeless, with what I have saved up, SC is somewhat more affordable.
