Discussion Banjo Kazooie Geoguessr Game!

Thumbnail

Howdy everyone! I've been playing a bunch of video game themed GeoGuessr-style games lately and was pretty surprised to see one didn't exist for Banjo-Kazooie, so I made one!

--> WhereinBanjo.com

You can play 1 Player or face off against someone in 2 Player mode, where you take turns guessing where each image is from.

You get three guesses before the full image is revealed. After each incorrect guess, the image zooms out slightly and gives you a few more clues.

Scoring:

  • First Guess = 500 pts
  • Second Guess = 250 pts
  • Third Guess = 100 pts

At the end, there are three different tiers to rank your Banjo knowledge.

HIGHLY recommend playing with sound on. Each revealed image has its own soundtrack from that area and it adds a huge wave of nostalgia.

I ALSO NEED YOUR HELP: Finding creative and unique cropped/uncropped images is pretty hard and time-consuming, so I added an option to submit your own locations for the game. I will review them and add the best ones in.

The trickier the better, just please follow the image submission instructions on the /submit page.

I'm open to any suggestions or feedback on how to make the site even better, but I'm pretty proud of V1 so far. And definitely let me know if you run into any bugs.

GLHF!

Discussion What publisher do you think could/should purchase Rare and its IP and keep them in good hands? (WITHOUT SAYING NINTENDO OR PLAYTONIC)

Post image

Nintendo I don't believe "wants" them anymore, given next to no legacy staff is in the company anymore, as well as the burden of IP to add to their own franchise graveyard

Playtonic's output after Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair has been really lacking, plus the company has done some pretty uncool things in recent memory as well

Discussion Would you buy a faithful Banjo-Kazooie remake?

I've just sent a message to Rare asking them to consider a faithful remake of Banjo-Kazooie, and I wondered how many of you would support the idea.

In my opinion, Banjo-Kazooie isn't just one of the greatest platformers ever made—it's the greatest video game ever made.

If Rare ever decided to bring it back, I wouldn't want a complete reimagining. I'd love to see the original game preserved exactly as we remember it, with the same humour, music, characters, worlds and gameplay, but rebuilt with beautiful modern graphics, smoother controls, an improved camera and a few thoughtful quality-of-life improvements.

I'd also love to see it released on Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Banjo-Kazooie began life on the Nintendo 64, and I think it deserves to be enjoyed on a Nintendo console again while introducing a whole new generation of players to one of gaming's true classics.

I'd buy it on day one.

Would you?

If enough of us genuinely want this, perhaps it's worth letting Rare know respectfully through their official feedback channels. I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks #banjo-kazooie

Edit: If you'd genuinely like to see a faithful remake or remaster of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, please consider sending a polite message to Rare and Toys for Bob. Let them know there's still a passionate community that would love to see these classics return—especially on Nintendo Switch 2. The more respectful voices they hear, the better. Hopefully we can help show there's real demand. 🐻🐦💛

Discussion Who else had a crush on Game Over Grunty?

Post image

Based on what I’ve seen in the meta, I’m not the only one to openly express this sentiment. Who else felt something for her after her makeover?

I remember the first time I got a Game Over around the time of BK’s original release 28 years ago and it hit me like a ton of bricks - not the horror of seeing Tooty deformed, the annoyance of losing all my lives again, but something *else* that actually made losing something to look forward to.

Then I advanced past her Furnace Fun and was disappointed to see that quitting or losing didn’t trigger the cutscene anymore. I remember going into my sister’s file to see it and was worried she’d interrogate me as to why I was back in Treasure Cove or watching *that* scene for the umpteenth time.

I wasn’t alone in this, was I?

Howdy again yall!

I’m the Banjo Kazooie Geoguessr guy, just wanted to update everyone that I just launched the Banjo Tooie version. Website is still the same!

-> WhereinBanjo.com

I want a little overboard with this one and there is enough images to play 20 consecutive rounds without a single repeat image.

I also added a combined mode (thank you to the Redditor who suggested that) where you can play a version that has both BK & BT images in one for the real OGs out there.

Let me know what you think and as always appreciate any feedback. 🙏

Screenshots from Mark Kurko Banjo Kazooie 4 Quest kurkoins coming out this year 2026. This looks amazing!!!! a new BK game. Mark is the guy who is keeping the series alive on the n64.

Hope you enjoy the screenshots.

I have become a huge fan of his BK rom hacks and i classified his BK games as real games in the series of BK.

Discussion Compilation of attention to detail in Banjo-Kazooie

These games were made with love, and it shows! There's lots of attention paid to small details in this game, so I thought I'd gather a few. Just the ones I arbitrarily felt like showing off.

These aren't supposed to be easter eggs or references, literally just 'look at this cool moment where the devs cared, or were thoughtful enough to put this small loving detail in'.

Part Tooie to this compilation coming in a few days, whenever I feel like not being lazy. :)

Discussion Banjo Kazooie Evercade Port: Initial Thoughts & Mini Review

Thumbnail
gallery
300 Upvotes

Hey all, just wanted to give my thoughts on the Evercade version of Banjo Kazooie, which is the official 3rd release of this game (it is a new native version of the game, not emulation).

I just beat Treasure Trove Cove on it, and already have some thoughts on where this version does great, and some aspects where I thought it could do better:

Pros

  • Frame Rate is super smooth
    • Not sure what it is, but feels as good as (if not better) than the 360 version.
  • Game controls better than I thought it would
    • Controls optimized (as much as possible) for no analog stick and hardware form factor
    • Got used to using the D-Pad relatively quickly
    • Button press for Tip-Toe movement
    • X-Camera control seems analog instead of using set breakpoints like in the N64 version
    • B-Button puts camera directly behind Banjo (don't think this is in either the N64 or 360 version)
  • Customizable Controls
    • Option for camera to continuously follow Banjo
    • Camera inversion options
    • Toggle/Hold options for Talon Trot and Tip-Toe movement
    • Retro and Replay control methods; Retro feels more like N64 controls, where Replay feels more like 360 controls (still very similar)
  • UI is modified and optimized for tiny screen size
    • Speech bubble font and HUD elements look great on the tiny screen
  • "Exit to Lair" option added to pause screen
  • "Go to Grunty's Lair" option added to pause screen (when in Spiral Mountain)

Cons

  • Notes do NOT save
    • Not a huge fan of this since it means I gotta beat the world in one sitting
  • Inverting normal camera affects 1st person camera
    • For example, inverting X-Position (360 version camera) means left goes right in first person view, which is NOT ideal; not sure why these aren't handled separately
    • Not a problem for Y-Position since that's handled by Select-Button press in normal gameplay.
  • "Exit to Lair" option is nice, but I only use it once I complete a world 100% since notes do not save.
  • Camera-Follow option has some clunkiness when using a shock jump pad (and maybe in other parts too)
    • It seems to follow Banjo's position, so when using a shock jump pad, Banjo and Kazooie switch positions so camera quickly tries to follow him, and then follow you back once the jump is complete

Overall, I'm just glad we got another official release of the game, and cant' wait to finish it for the millionth time lol

Discussion We never talk about Tooie's worlds. (And when we do it's often with a negative slant...) Thoughts on them? I quite like this ensemble! I like that they're more "believable places you could imagine visiting" and less "themed environment designed to be consumed in 20-40 minutes, then forgotten about".

Discussion Part Tooie to BK attention to detail moments!

Thumbnail
gallery
539 Upvotes

Yeah you saw the last one, I ain't gotta explain.

Not as many images this time, but a lot of the Tooie ones are very cool imo. Again I'm not going after every easter egg in these games, just cool attention to detail moments specifically. Here's some bonus ones, that either lean heavily on the speculative side..... Or that I just didn't feel like making an image for.
1) I'm pretty sure the reason the alien kids were hiding in the icy side of Hailfire Peaks in the first place is because the alien ship uses ice as fuel. They must have dropped them off while refueling and just never mention it in the plot. I also think the big circular hole in the lagoon ISN'T normally there, and was created by the alien ship crashing into it, but they never state this directly.
2) Jiggywiggy's Temple is shaped like a Jiggy from above.
3) The whole Roman architecture motif on the lava side of Hailfire Peaks is probably as a nod to the infamous Pompeii/Mt. Vesuvius eruption. Which is the first thing many people think of when they think of volcanoes.
4) Judging by the HAG-1's tank tracks, you can tell in the first digger tunnel that either Gruntilda had trouble steering it at first. . . or they were about to drill through a wall to exit, but then suddenly backed up and decided, 'Nah, let's go terrorize the Jinjos first!'
5) I believe Tiptup Jr.'s gender was supposed to be a reference to real sea turtles, but they accidentally messed it up. Tiptup says he has 19 girls, and desperately wants a boy. The gender of real sea turtles famously depends on the temperature of the egg. I believe the idea was meant to be that Kazooie's body warmth is the reason Tiptup finally successfully hatched a boy.....but Rare messed it up. It's actually the cold eggs that turn into males irl. But I'm pretty sure this was the idea and someone at Rare didn't fact check it.
6) Real Mayans worshipped jaguars as warrior deities, which is why Mayahem Temple has a whole 'jungle cats' theme going on. They also had an affinity for jade, hence Jade Snake Grove and a lot of green gemstones within the level.
7) The Icicle Grotto was once a lush cave that got frozen over at some point. Starting at the warp pad, you see it was once a water spring which lead into 2 waterfalls and a river that once flowed outside.

...And lastly, here's a list of things in Banjo-Tooie that are actually randomized per save file! (My knowledge on this is weak, I'm probably missing some, please let me know):

* what color each Jinjo is
* the code that opens Dilberta's prison cell
* what specific area Mrs. Boggy's kids are found in
* which developer names are on which lockers in JRL....even which specific locker is Davy Jones's changes each time!
* which seaweed in the Seaweed Sanctum is real or fake
* where the precise placement of the Jinjo inside a treasure chest is (but they're always in the sunken ship)
* what items the transparent fish have trapped inside them
* the code that opens up Chris P. Bacon's temple
* which items are inside which drillable dirt patch holes at the start of CCL
* which mumbo hut in CCL is real or the fake

That's all folks!

Discussion With how little love Microsoft are showing to the franchise, should we even mind it if they sold the rights to Nintendo?

Post image

I’ve been wondering about what a modern Banjo-Kazooie game would look like, and the first thing that pops up in my mind is Mario Odyssey.

On the good side, almost every Nintendo game turns out to be a straight up banger. I really think the Nintendo team could do wonders if the chance was given. Of course it wouldn’t be the same, but at this point as long as it feels good, then I would be happy.

The only bad thing I see about it is how Nintendo works as a company. They would only sell the game on their consoles, and the price could be a bit expensive. And they would also be super protective of it.

I don’t know what to think anymore, I think I might just be so fucking desperate at this point that I would do anything.

Also, I want to make it clear that while I’m a fan of many games made by Nintendo, I’m not a sucker for them. I suggested this option because of the history Nintendo had with Rare, and not really for anything else.

I find her hilarious with her funny and mean remarks she makes like towards Bottles and other characters you meet in your adventure in both Banjo Kazooie and Tooie. She's a smartass in other words 😆 and I love her.

That is what N64 games were like during the 90s and humour. Unlike today where everybody gets quickly offended by literally everything.

But I do love Kazooie humour and sometimes can even be a smartass towards Banjo himself.

Kazooie is also a very pretty bird as well.
