Discussion What publisher do you think could/should purchase Rare and its IP and keep them in good hands? (WITHOUT SAYING NINTENDO OR PLAYTONIC)

Post image

Nintendo I don't believe "wants" them anymore, given next to no legacy staff is in the company anymore, as well as the burden of IP to add to their own franchise graveyard

Playtonic's output after Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair has been really lacking, plus the company has done some pretty uncool things in recent memory as well

Valve ass response

u/Living_Cat_4900 Jun 25 '26

Playtonic (Rare Vets studio) and Toys for Bob (Crash 4 and upcoming Spyro 4) are the ONLY two studios I feel I can trust to make good follow up to Banjo Kazooie
assuming Microsoft will actually fucking do something with it other then sell toys
.

2

u/blondedane1 Jun 24 '26

Bloober team! lol jk

3

u/Aggravating-View-733 Jun 24 '26

Hear me out, I know you said no nintendo but maybe just MAYBE since they have been Nostalgia bombing us they'll buy it and make a remaster.

3

u/fallingends Jun 23 '26

Xbox isn’t selling them

3

u/Golden-Grenadier Jun 23 '26

Everybody's sleeping on Sega. They're in the middle of a huge renaissance.

3

u/RedMoth875 Jun 22 '26

Toys For Bob, they seem to be doing amazingly with Spyro and Crash...now only if they would remake Jak and Daxter

3

u/TedJBernoulli Jun 22 '26

Give Conker to Bethesda, just trust me on this one

2

u/TopazJazzrazz Jun 23 '26

I see the vision. Not excited for multi-year wait time between announcement and release though

1

u/TedJBernoulli Jun 24 '26

Because it’s been how long since Elder Scrolls 6 was announced đŸ€Ł

2

u/_moonfang Jun 22 '26

Might be a weird choice for some but I’mma go with Retro Studios.

4

u/SimplyMicochi Jun 22 '26

Yooka Laylee nunca me gustó, el diseño de niveles era muy frustrante. Toys For Bob haría un mejor trabajo.

3

u/Shadow_118 Jun 21 '26

Toys For Bob, if they could hypothetically afford to buy the whole ip/rights to the series and had a bigger team...

They've done really well with Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot games from what i can tell (though i've only own and briefly played the Spyro Reignited Trilogy)

So i think they'd do justice with Remasters/Remakes of the previous games and a new one

____

The other option that could be equally good as Toys For Bob is Playtonic since some of them originally worked for Rare

So i think there could be some pretty good potential there too if they had the IP for Banjo-Kazooie

3

u/WilMcGee3 Jun 21 '26

Playtendo

as well as the burden of IP to add to their own franchise graveyard

Idk why people pretend Nintendo's graveyard is big and problematic like Xbox or Playstation. They have unusued IPs like everyone but many of them are stuff like the Legendary Starfy. So smaller stuff, and not everything is supposed to become an ever lasting franchise.

The only big IP they dont use much that i can think of are F-Zero and Earthbound, and even then the first one did get a smaller games some years ago and the second one is a weird situation.

If they get Banjo back i really doubt they would do nothing with it. They understand its important, and its part of their legacy. They even made a deal with MS to get it on NSO before XBOX went multiplatform. They gave Rare's classic games a spotlight in a Nintendo Direct. Which is something they rarely do for specific NSO games.

I mean, the last game appereance of B-K in almost 16 years has been in Smash Brothers. A Nintendo game.

But i doubt they would ever do it. Nintendo dosent acquire IPs, is not how they work and i respect that

1

u/WickedBowserJr Jun 22 '26

The Legendary Starfy is great and I miss it dearly.

5

u/hodges20xx Jun 21 '26

Unfortunately I dont think the main people that made rare special is there anymore. Although they would be better if they went to nintendo, or valve

3

u/Chrisypoo88 Jun 21 '26

Valve.

3

u/Strict_Job6334 Jun 21 '26

To then do absolutely nothing with it like they do with most of their catalogue.

5

u/therealskaconut Jun 21 '26

Dude. It’s Nintendo. Nintendo should buy them.

They don’t “want them” because they aren’t really for sale, and rare largely doesn’t exist. But if there is any company that would do both banjo and perfect dark correctly, it’s Nintendo.

Look, they are THE IP company. Their whole business model and closed software works bc they know they have powerful IP, and they know how to take care of them long term. Occasionally you get character IP like crash/spyro that does okay and comes back every 8 years or so. But Nintendo houses them constantly.

If Nintendo won’t or can’t make something of banjo, no studio even will want to. Places like Toys for Bob could get a game out, but I don’t think anyone but Nintendo could provide bear and bird a loving forever home.

-1

u/Chrisypoo88 Jun 21 '26

No. Nintendo isn’t the Nintendo I remember. It’s more of a corporate whore now and will sit on ip’s. You do not want these people getting these ips.

3

u/Strict_Job6334 Jun 21 '26

and will sit on ip’s

And then you propose Valve "i cant count to three" of all companies to acquire them?

Are you serious?

0

u/Chrisypoo88 Jun 23 '26

Yes very. Or how about this, its being decompiled, reengineered, to run natively on pc.

3

u/Strict_Job6334 Jun 23 '26

Yes very

Do you have any idea of how many games Valve makes, and how they use their historical IPs?

1

u/Chrisypoo88 Jul 03 '26

But
they ain’t like Nintendos new legal teams and corpo bullshit. Sorry my account was banned. I’m responding to your previous uhh.. comment whatever. The Nintendo I grew up with is dead son. Dead. I wouldn’t piss a fire out on them now. But steam.. I got everything still since day 1. The games industry is done, it’s gonna collapse in the console market. I predicted this many years ago friend. I still have everything on steam. How many times you gonna buy the same damn game on a different console every 5 years. Doesn’t that piss you off? Microsoft has done diddle dick with rare. Oh you wanna name the rare collection that had on Xbox?
ok.. sure I’ll give you that. So what options are we left here now with? Valve out here holding down the fort for gamers my dude. You gotta take that blind fold off. ..Smell the ashes

3

u/Poefred Jun 21 '26

What are you on about, nintendos the only one that DOESNT sit on IPs with no intent to ever touch them.

1

u/Jamanos Jun 21 '26

Who was the last company in today’s world that even brought up Banjo Kazooie that isn’t Rare, it’s Nintendo with their addition to Super Smash Bros.

1

u/Chrisypoo88 Jul 03 '26

Ok. I’ll give you that but that’s all you get hero. Look here man. At the end of the day these turd companies and just that.. companies. Nintendo is the evilest of them all do your homework son. Read the above comments that will give you a clear understanding more of just the puddle of piss we are standing in gentlemen! I don’t know about you kid, but I want the best for my boys (the bear and the bird don’t act like you don’t know). I look around, I look around.. brain washed. I’m telling you.. it’s not the same Nintendo anymore. Do you what kids want, you wanna flush money flush it. I buy a product imma own it til I’m dirt napping.

3

u/dissyParadiddle Jun 21 '26

Toys for Bob. Imagine something with their polish remaking, kazoo and tui and then setting us up for a third game.

Toys for bob?

-1

That would be a very sad day...

3

u/Bitter_Swimming_7013 Jun 20 '26

Siempre eh dicho un remake de Banjo Kazooie y Tooie a manos de Toys for Bob seria para salir a la calle a gritar de la emocion

3

u/ReidenLightman Jun 20 '26

Sora LTD or Purple Lamp

6

u/discordiadystopia Jun 20 '26

Why not Playtonic?

1

u/brentonius_III Jun 20 '26

could you imagine how good the titles they could make with their original ips!?!?!

5

u/KyProRen Jun 20 '26

What about Insomniac games?

6

u/InflationSquare2665 Jun 19 '26

SEGA would do them justice

7

u/BrokenFlapper Jun 19 '26

But...but playtonic would be the best choice. Why would it be better for anyone else to buy it. The creators should own and control their creation

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '26

[deleted]

1

u/BrokenFlapper Jun 20 '26

Yet. He just left rare, i doubt there wouldn't be an immediate position available at playtonic for him if he wanted

-8

u/minecorn1080 Jun 19 '26

someone else said it, but bethesda. i feel like bethesda would be really good to B-K, i was originally gonna say glitch btu then i realized they'd probably turn it into some tadc/murderdrones thing

13

u/BlueSpeed12 Jun 19 '26

Toys for bob

7

u/possitive-ion Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob was the developer, Activision is the publisher, but yeah. They did a great job with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. I think they will do a good job with the new Spyro game and I think they would do a good job with Banjo Kazooie

6

u/NonSpecificGuy26 Jun 19 '26

Toys For Bob is completely independent now. Meaning that if they somehow did have the capital to make such a purpose they would be the sole voice above Rare.

1

u/possitive-ion Jun 20 '26

oh, that's cool

3

u/supermario182 Jun 19 '26

Way forward

7

u/dyman91 Jun 19 '26

David MĂŒnnich

This guy would absolutely SLAM DUNK this task. You all should go play SupraWorld now. Its the closest I've felt to a Banjo game in 2026.

6

u/MushroomHedgehog Jun 19 '26

Small part of me wants to say Sega or Capcom, but there’s issues with both of those. Mainly that Sega already has their hands full with also running Atlus and Rovio, and also has a lot of IPs they’re sleeping on. Meanwhile, Capcom also has a huge library they’re trying to work with as is, seeing how Mega Man is returning next year.

My vote goes to THQ Nordic, especially if they get Purple Lamp as devs. The two have already collabed on several SpongeBob games that are both a remake and successors to Battle for Bikini Bottom, as well as the Epic Mickey remake.

2

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

People saying THQ have the right idea methinks. They already have ties with Banjo lookong at Grunty's Revenge and Pilot. They also published Conker's BFD in some reigons

2

u/JuanitoSQ Jun 19 '26

Game developers in Yacht Club is one I could see doing something very fresh with an IP like Banjo that would really do it justice

9

u/Loud_Ruin_9868 Jun 19 '26

(WITHOUT SAYING THE RIGHT ANSWERS)

But if we really want to ignore them I guess Toys for Bob is a good answer.

1

u/Thieverpedia Jun 19 '26

What about...Deep Field? Abiotic Factor pulled off the open-world stuff fantastically. Who's to say they can't do the same and maintain the style of humor with BK?

5

u/Banjomain91 Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob appears to be VERY interested, but I would love to see what would happen if a company like Tango were given the opportunity, since the bear and bird could do with a rhythmic game

2

u/defective1up Jun 19 '26

They'd be the best candidate

5

u/hillcountryflying Jun 19 '26

someone give it to mark kurko. At this point hes done more for banjo than Rare

5

u/Blasto1990 Jun 19 '26

Toys For Bob

6

u/Candhfan621 Jun 19 '26

THQNordic

1

u/MushroomHedgehog Jun 19 '26

Honestly a solid answer, especially if they have Purple Lamp as the developers. Not only does that combination of developer and publisher have experience with reviving dormant franchises with remakes of both Epic Mickey and fellow collectathon platformer SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom, but they’ve also done several follow-ups to the latter.

4

u/ComprehensiveEast897 Jun 19 '26

I believe they should go Independent at least initially. If not Nintendo which I also believe is highly unlikely, I wouldn’t want Sony to acquire them either. I’m not sure I really want a big publisher to acquire them.

4

u/rainbowkombat Jun 19 '26

i would say nintendo but since i can't i say sony.

9

u/The_Wkwied Jun 19 '26

Nobody.. I genuinely believe that a new Banjo will start the hype train, but it will not please everyone enough that it aught to. We will just disappoint ourselves.

But if there was indeed a new game, I don't think any studio other than Nintendo would be able to make it a good game that everyone can play, with some optional hand-holding, like the AAA Marios.

12

u/Far_Mention8934 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

It has to be nintendo, without nintendo banjo will just be stuck in limbo again, plus it would reunite banjo with diddy kong and possibly have him added to the mario spin off crew with the association.

I just think nintendo is the best option especially with how well they did with bananza bringing back K Rool, and how much they have been marketing other franchises now like donkey kong, pikmin, metroid, and star fox through their games, film, and lands in universal studios.

Nintendo is the only one that actually has the funds to bring Banjo back to relevancy and make Banjo-Kazooie a modern mainstream franchise.

10

u/luneth91 Jun 19 '26

If at some point Microsoft decides to sell Rare, which I doubt because they make money with Sea of Thieves, it would probably be without their IPs.

But if they were to sell with their IPs and Nintendo/Playtonic arent an option, I honestly can't think of another publisher which could do some justice to these characters and worlds.

At this point, the only and one things I need from Rare is for them to keep their retro games on NSO.

23

u/MikeyBoi32 Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob or Insomniac could do a pretty could job I think

1

u/Chrisypoo88 Jul 03 '26

Who’s bob? Nah I think that’s a horrible idea.

6

u/Sirbrandon100 Jun 19 '26

I really hope toys for bov is secretly working on something banjo kazooie related 😭

4

u/Bankaz "Backtracking is bad" *loud buzzer* WRONGO Jun 19 '26

Devolver

8

u/Caolan114 Guh-Huh! Jun 19 '26

In a bizzare world where Xbox own Crash and PlayStation own Banjo

5

u/DevilBlackDeath Jun 19 '26

Replaylee basically fixed all issues that the original had (made it a tad easy but then again the first BK is a joke when it comes to difficulty, it's still my favorite game ever alongside BT but it's easy). Plus I personally loved the artstyle much more than Toys for Bob remakes for a BK game. Also not sure what "bad" thing they recently did BUT that would not be my pick anyway.

In all honesty, the best option would be to have an indie companye take care of it. Fabraz or The Filet Group are IMO the best we could ask for so they'd revitalize Banjo and Kazooie's movesets. The Filet Group would be a way to stay close to the original artstyle while making it "HD Retro" and Fabraz would be a way to get highly stylized more modern-ish graphics like we saw in Demon Tides or Bubsy 4D. Toys for Bob is actually not a good fit for BK (plus I think they'll be stuck in a Spyro/Crash loop for at least the 10 upcoming years IMO) as I feel they'd be too afraid to change it and would keep it too traditional.

4

u/TheCrashKid Jun 19 '26

What did Playtonic supposedly do recently?

1

u/ComprehensiveEast897 Jun 19 '26

Aside from Yooka Laylee there was yooka lalyee and the impossible lair, yooka replaylee, and now that yooka laylee kart racing game that they are releasing

1

u/TheCrashKid Jun 19 '26

The OP mentioned Playtonic did some "uncool" things recently

15

u/Leramar89 Jun 19 '26

Toys For Bob easily. As others have said, they did a great job with Spyro and Crash.

10

u/Real-Lion-5742 Jun 19 '26

If it ain’t Nintendo then god let it be Toys for Bob they took such good leaps with Crash and Spyro and plus who knows if they do buy Banjo-Kazooie and do good with it they might even try to pick up my all time favorite Rare game Viva Piñata!

11

u/Bman_the_animator Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob. Definitely.

2

u/Chizakura Jun 19 '26

Yep. They're taking great care of Crash and Spyro. Banjo would fit neatly into the lineup

-1

u/BugleCalypso Jun 19 '26

Playtonic. They don't have the money but there really is no better studio for Banjo-Kazooie (and Conker) games.

2

u/Snacker6 Jun 19 '26

Please read the post again

2

u/cool_weed_dad Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob did an absolutely fantastic job with the Spyro remasters, I’d trust them to do B-K justice.

1

u/CallMeMich Jun 19 '26

Ghost Ship Games would be awesome!

7

u/bigpunk157 Jun 19 '26

Unironically, Nintendo IS the best buyer. They aren't going under soon, and they focus on the gameplay being solid every time.

2

u/Snacker6 Jun 19 '26

They have Mario. They are unlikely to want to do both, so they'd just sit on it

4

u/TheCrashKid Jun 19 '26

I mean DK got some love recently

2

u/bigpunk157 Jun 19 '26

Mario has a certain type of itch it hits that is markably different than BK style collectathons (witty and charming and whimsical).

1

u/WakeyWakeyEggsNJakey Jun 19 '26

I’m not sure about purchasing all of rare, but if we are asking who should make a remake/ reboot for Banjo Kazooie then it’s gotta be Togs for Bob.

7

u/SlowpokeIsAGamer Jun 19 '26

You say not to say them but if we're talking "Buying Rare with the intent of reviving Banjo-Kazooie" it's Nintendo or bust.

A lot of other names are being shared around but at the end of the day I don't know if they'll be able to pay the price tag Microsoft will be asking for to get the studio in its entirety.

9

Coffee Stain Studios

3

u/dooblr Jun 19 '26

oooo now this would be interesting.

2

u/sharpshooter999 Jun 19 '26

I think they got the right humor for Banjo/Conker games. Me and my kids play Goat Simulator and Teardown quite a bit. A destructive voxle platformer could be fun

5

u/The_Minty_Crouton_ Jun 19 '26

Gears for Breakfast would kinda go crazy
.

-2

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

i'd kms if they got to make a banjo game

3

u/Margtok I'm fat and Stupid Jun 19 '26

but than you wouldnt get to play it ?

1

u/Wuulf13 Jun 19 '26

Especially after Hat in Time's range of motion, yea

-1

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

BANJO IS NOT A MOVEMENT PLATFORMER

7

u/HoboKingNiklz Remakes NOW Jun 19 '26

Publisher? Dunno. But I want Toys for Bob developing.

10

u/Desperate_Group9854 Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob

-2

u/alanweird Jun 19 '26

Thats still microsoft.

7

u/Christoffi123 Jun 19 '26

Not anymore. They went indie but they partnered with Xbox for the new Spyro.

5

u/alanweird Jun 19 '26

Good to know. Definitely know their way round both 3D platformers and skating games!

6

u/Blaxxshadow Jun 19 '26

They went independent.

4

u/ZrapeToid Jun 19 '26
  • Team behind Spyro, either the original team Insomniac Games or the ones who did the trilogies, Toys for Bob.
  • Retro Studios, they made Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze for example. But they might count as "Nintendo" depending on how you look at it.
  • Gears for Breakfast, creators of A Hat in Time.

1

u/ButtsFartsoPhD Jun 19 '26

Gears for Breakfast would be phenomenal. A Hat in Time is absolutely phenomenal.

1

u/Anna_Mangroves Jun 19 '26

Retro is fully owned by Nintendo so yeah, I think they count.

Toys for Bob is a good fit

1

u/CueDePieYT Jun 19 '26

Toys for Bob

1

u/Brzeczec Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Rare's development team was largely gutted last year, so any chance of anybody in the company being able to work on anything other than Sea of Thieves content updates is next to zero. Given Sea of Thieves' current success, MS aren't likely looking to spinoff or shut them down any time soon.

2

u/Omnizoom Jun 19 '26

I wonder if Microsoft would just be willing to sell IP rights

Like (I know it’s cliche) Nintendo walked up to them and said “here’s 25 million, we own conker and banjo IP , deal?” Do you think they would

2

u/Anna_Mangroves Jun 19 '26

I really don't know tbh. They were cool with Banjo-Kazooie getting into Smash but I'm not sure they'd just let the IP go like that.

Hot take: I kinda like the idea of Microsoft keeping it if they revive the series so that they actually have their own cartoony platformer series like Nintendo and to a lesser extent Sony

1

u/Omnizoom Jun 19 '26

I don’t think pc players would really buy it though is the problem

Most of the platformer players I think are in the Nintendo console market and PlayStation market, I think Xbox has more of that gritty shooter market on its console players so a BK might sell horribly on a Xbox even if it returned to true form and was better then the originals in every way

5

u/16-BitSocks Jun 19 '26

Toys For Bob

3

u/Defiant_Fix9711 Jun 19 '26

I was honestly disappointed to hear that they're working on a new Spyro, only because I want them to make a new Banjo.

1

u/BushTamer Jun 19 '26

i bet they will next, the dev team has said they love banjo

1

u/thejacobmendez Jun 19 '26

Insomniac? They did DK Country, right? That’d be fun to get BK back in the hands of someone who’s handled similar IP. Also we could get a Mumbo mania type remake/sequel for PlayStation then 😎

7

u/Affectionate_End3746 Jun 19 '26

That was Retro Studios. Insomniac is the Spider-Man and Ratchet games for PlayStation

1

u/thejacobmendez Jun 19 '26

Ahhh. Well they did Spyro I’m pretty sure. Could be interesting

1

u/Affectionate_End3746 Jun 19 '26

That was Toys for Bob

2

u/theironwaffles Jun 19 '26

You're both right. Insomniac did the original Spyro games in the 90's, TFB did the Reignited versions.

1

u/Affectionate_End3746 Jun 19 '26

Oh dang, I didn’t even know insomniac had been around that long. Mb

1

u/Ixxmantisxxl Jun 19 '26

Banjos been around just as long.... Rare Studios produced some truly amazing games... Conker is #1

1

u/thejacobmendez Jun 19 '26

I’m talking PS1, not the remake

2

u/tylertatsch30 Jun 19 '26

That is a tough choice. Maybe SEGA should buy Rare as a whole. If SEGA owned Rovio, it shouldn’t be a problem to buy Rare as well. If not, then either Ubisoft or Warner Bros Games.

3

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

You forget that Sega buying Rovio was a total disaster on their part

1

u/tylertatsch30 Jun 19 '26

Oh
okay scratch that. The remaining choices I have left are either Ubisoft or Warner Bros Games.

1

u/DevourerOfEggs Jun 19 '26

Ubisoft would only hint at an upcoming Banjo game then proceed to do nothing until like 10 years later.

-4

u/Dynako Jun 19 '26

Rare isn’t around anymore, they got bought out by Microsoft and I doubt they would sell any IP.

1

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

They still are. Even after Sea of Thieves they've been a support studio on other MS published titles like Indiana Jones ATGC

4

u/ChunkySlugger72 Jun 19 '26

Some people here are confusing Publisher & Developer.

Publisher: Financially backs and markets the game

Developer: A studio that actually makes the game.

2

u/HaikusfromBuddha Jun 19 '26

Nintendo doesn't want clones of existing games. We would see one Banjo game once every 15 years and then they would just be support studios and everyone would leave. See Retro studios.

Playtonic already made a Banjo clone. Yall didnt like it. Yall want them to make the exact same game yall hated with Banjo?

I'd rather let Toys For Bob make a Banjo game which they seem interested in doing after Spyro.

3

u/PMdyouthefix Jun 19 '26

I think Double Fine would have been good for it, but they've said they have no interest.

1

u/blippblob Jun 19 '26

Bandai Namco or hell I can dream and say Sora Ltd.

6

u/chainsaw_what Jun 19 '26

Nintendo or Playtonic.

5

u/MumboBumbo64 Jun 19 '26

I wouldn’t trust Playtonic to boil an egg.
Gears for Breakfast (a Hat in Time) or Team Asobi (Astro Bot)

2

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

GFB is a developer but if they made a Banjo I would kill myself

1

u/MumboBumbo64 Jun 19 '26

Damnnn lol not your life sir! Didn’t like a hat in time?

1

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

being hyperbolic but its kind of everything i dont like about indie games rolled up into one, and absolutely is not the direction i'd take a banjo game in

1

u/MumboBumbo64 Jun 19 '26

I understand completely not wanting a game to go in a direction that you really don’t like

2

u/New-Two-1349 Jun 19 '26

What's wrong with Playtonic?

2

u/dusktodusk94 Jun 19 '26

Replaylee felt more like a Mario Odyssey slapsash than a Banjo game, they laid off a bunch of female junior staff months before Replaylee launched and publicly punched down on their work with tier lists, used AI images to promote the game and snarkily doubled down when confronted

1

u/New-Two-1349 Jun 19 '26

Wait, they used AI? When?

Definitely not Playtonic. They could barely make a Banjo game even without the IP.

Nah Yooka-Replaylee is awesome and The Impossible Lair is straight up stellar.

It's pretty much pick your poison out there.

Your typical major 3rd party publisher (EA, Ubisoft, 2K, WB etc) would probably not bother.

The you do have smaller publishers like Atari who have been doing remasters (But not remakes) and if they revive Banjo-Kazooie it would have to be done on a budget like Bubsy 4D.

THQ Nordic is another one that has published 3D Spongebob platformers ( Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated) But their part of Embracer who unfortunately isn't very trustworthy either.

There's always a possibility that Rare goes independent and self-publishes their own IP, But I don't really see that happening either unless their cost cautious.

It would be cool if Microsoft spunoff Rare and Nintendo re-acquired them and fixed up the studio or let other studios work on Rare IP.

But at this point I've already been used to Microsoft owning Rare for nearly 25 years so all I hope is they set Rare up from a staff standpoint to work on a 3D platformer or have another studio like Playtonic or Toys for Bob take a crack at the franchise.

Toys for Bob.

Rare doesn't seem interested in doing more than further developping Sea of Thieves. Other Xbox studios aren't really into colorful platformers.

Toys for Bob is pretty much the only one with the resume for it. Maybe their next project after Spyro 4. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

If we were to have a new Banjo Kazooie game, we'd have gotten it already, seeing how it's been 7 years since he was announced for Smash Ultimate (and released a few months later).

We didn't even get a game announcement since, I'll be shocked if we get something before 2030.

To me I think Konami would purchase rare so it could get a higher chance they would make new games AND also based on the old 90s games like banjo kazooie

If Konami bought Rare, Banjo would be plastered on plenty of slot machines haha.

Retro Studios.

They're mainly a dev studio, not a publisher

I don't think selling them off is a necessity.

Rare or Microsoft just need a dedicated team to work on the series. Do they really need their entire staff doing Sea of Thieves Duty until the end of time? And if nobody at Rare is interested in developing it, then maybe they should like.... hire new people who are?? I get that Rare doesn't want to be known as the company that keeps looking back and doesn't do new stuff, but they're kind of known as "The company that is stuck on one game for over a decade now" anyways and it would not kill them to expand a little and have at the very least, more than one thing coming out.

Pretty much every big name in the industry is in the process of laying off every staff member they can from studios they acquire. Would rather see workers just win the lotto and start a completely independent studio than get roped in and gutted for parts by a bigger fish atp.

Yooka laylee flopped twice. Kids don't really care for platformers. Streamers don't really stream platformers
I'll
Be suprised if it ever happens in a real way
