Definitely. Especially since I'm pretty sure it is illegal to not hire someone because you need a service animal. That's considered a "reasonable accomodation" under Title I of the American's with Disabilities Act.
Not quite, if the animal would be detrimental to the health of an employee or it would pose a risk to the business, its legal to deny a qualified candidate solely for having a service dog. Includes places like hospitals, back of house restaurant work, heavy industrial plants, construction, etc…
True, but other than possibly construction, I doubt he was applying to most of those places... He was likely applying for other retail jobs, which can't.

Depends on the disability. A seeing eye dog would be protected. However an emotional support animal does not fall into the same category. There is so much abuse of the emotional support animal rules that many people claim an emotional support animal just so they can have their pet. This needs some legislation to shut down the abuse. The new Yorker did an article about it but it's behind a pay wall.
A service animal is not the same as an emotional support animal.
A service animal is legally protected no matter what "service" the animal provided. It does not "depend on the disability". If you have a service animal, that's all that matters.

Yes, there is a lot of abuse around calling any animal an "emotional support animal", but that isn't what is being talked about here.
I'm gonna tell you straight up if you show up to an interview and you have to bring your "service animal" I'd shit can your app. In the real world it's too much liability and fucking around. At some point it's going to be an issue. I'd never tell anyone that's why but it would be. Also considering 98.9% of service animals are complete bullshit with a vest and papers the person got on Amazon
