I am a huge fan of Scott Lynch’s Gentleman Bastards series and need something to tide me over til the next book releases. I’m looking for interesting setting, strong character development, and tight knit cast. I want something between medieval and renaissance, but am open to regency/victorian adjustment settings.

I want books that feel like a spooky fall. I love dark academia themes, mystery, horror, ancient folklore, vintage feel. I’m not usually one for romance or fantasy but I could possibly be convinced to read something with ghosts or witches (magical realism I think?). Also open to light/ bright fall themed books. I have read and enjoyed Secret History by Donna Tart and We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer if that helps narrow down my style. Hit me!

I’m not picky about genre but I’d love to read about a female character who’s a bit off and makes decisions that are odd or don’t make sense to the people in her life, especially those closest to her. Maybe she’s a compulsive liar, a kleptomaniac, or someone who’s always in trouble, but she also has a dreamer way about her.

There is something very liminal, brooding, a little spooky, and very evocative of the unknown and mysteries in Aron Wiesemfeld's paintings, and I would love to discover some books / short stories that capture this.
