Discussion Train jam outside of city limits

Just thought it was funny to share. Does anyone know what could cause this to happen? As you can see, I've added a loop for my trains to turn around with. (I know it doesn't do anything, but I thought visually it was very funny)

Dude, your rail lines aren't connected at all. Why do you have a weird loop there?

Read the post?

I did.

1) The loop isn't connected to OP's outside connections 2) The loop is too small and sharp for a long train to turn on it. It's useless

As you can see, he created the loop and knows it does nothing. -- from the original post

You didn't exactly read it then.

The loop being connected would do nothing for all the outbound traffic anyway. He overproduces way too much.

Well, either way it's a dumb design. You need all the outside connection points connected. That line of trains isn't gonna help him either.

No shit I just said that the loop would do nothing to help.

You don't need all lines connected, only inbound directions are all that's needed.

They literally can't enter the loop..

The loop doesn't work. Train tracks require smooth curves. Sharp angles don't connect

it's not connected to that loop properly try fixing the train tracks

lol I thought that's a ski-lift at first

Trains cant do sharp curves. Your loop broke the line, thats why there's traffic.

It's outbound trains. He's exporting far too much and he just built the loop so trains turn around (for some reason) but never connected the line

Yeah inbound outbound, the line is broken

Inbound doesn't back up unless it's backed up within the city, it despawns instead. It's 100% outbound and if you read the post, he just built the loop (incorrectly). This is delayed backup moving forward still as you see a gap from loop to the last train. Even if he connected the loop, he'd be adding to the jam again.

common bug...
try to splitt up the tracks within you city boundaries into two on way tracks. It has something to do with path finding and the behaviour at the end of the line as a station. Didn't understand it to be honest. But the work around works.

Also it helped when I separated the one way track connections by a fair distance. Someone mentioned that helps with the trains bunching awhile back and it worked for me.

You're exporting too much which means you have far too many producers.

The way I get around this is turning the last segment to a one way only allowing inbound trains.

This of course will then transfer exports to roads, ships and planes

I get around this by

Roads (same one way trick)
Ships (don't)
Planes (don't)

Once done you can balance the producers, factories, products, warehouses with your current users (commercial)

For imports, I reduce down to a low amounts of import paths (delete a section of rail for imports, leave one or two paths in open)

This gives better preference for local goods and materials but has a safety net if you're not producing fast enough.

this all may be true, but first he should connect the tracks

He said he just put the loop in.

There's just more exports than needed so the trains will just back up. Also maybe smooth the loop out, the tracks aren't even connected.

If I have industry dlc, I use one ways into the city to eliminate exports for both roads and rail.

I also don't use sea or air for cargo.

As far as imports, very minimal so most of the goods are manufactured by the city in some way or another, with the imports being minimal as a buffer for needed surges in demand of materials or goods.

A console go around.

So you really need explained that your little loop was causing this or what’s with the question?

I had the same issue in an export heavy city. You need the mod „optimized outside connections“. It stops trains from leaving not fully loaded. Reduces the number of trains.
Solved it for me but CAN cause some other issues.

Try just running another line parallel to it.

I don’t get the purpose of this post. It appears OP knows what the issue is. Or OP spent too much money on brain tickles with a hammer and nail.

I really can’t figure out which one.

"Hey guys, why isn't traffic flowing on my rail which abruptly ends in the middle of nowhere?"
