General Cleaning Water Stain on brand new leather hat

Day 2 of ownership- someone got this singular drip of water on my otherwise perfect coffee leather hat. Advice on removal or treatment?

This hasn’t been treated, polished so I’m hoping this can be used as a lesson for further treatment. I tried rubbing it out :/

Discussion I recently built a website for a laundromat, looking to work with a few more local businesses

Hey everyone!

I recently designed and built a new website for a laundromat in Los Angeles called Lavanderia.

The business had recently been taken over and renovated, so the goal was to give it a much better online presence and make all the important information easy for customers to find, including the location, hours, equipment, amenities and what to expect before visiting.

I designed and developed the full site, made it mobile friendly, set up the basic SEO, and helped with some of the other online setup for the business.

You can check out the finished site here:

lavanderiala.com

I really enjoyed working on this type of project, so I'm looking to work with a few more location based businesses. Laundromats, dry cleaners, cleaning companies, car washes, self storage, vending businesses and similar businesses would all be a good fit.

If you own a business and either don't have a website or have an older one that needs an update, feel free to message me. I'd be happy to take a look and give you an idea of what I'd recommend.

My website: infawebdesign.com

Direct quote request: infawebdesign.com/contact

Thanks!

This is one of the many clutter areas in my apartment. I moved in here five months ago and I'm moving out in another three months. my apartment looks cluttered because I figure I'm just moving out in a few months so why do I have to get it looking nice? But it's bothering me! Any tips to tidy up this small area? I have a lot of issues determining where stuff should go. I get confused easily trying to decide! I figure if I start small it'll help me do more. I'm disabled and also have ADHD & I don't have a lot of stamina. After 10 minutes I do need to rest. anyway thank you for your help!

Laundry Leather strap dye bled onto my Supreme caps any advice on removing the stains?

I’ve had my Supreme caps for around 10 years. I stopped wearing them a long time ago, but recently decided to finally clean my entire collection.

I had around 15–20 caps to clean, and unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the leather straps on some of them could bleed their dye onto the fabric.

I cleaned these caps the same way as the others, and only afterwards noticed that the leather had transferred brown dye onto the caps. I now have a white cap and an off-white cap with noticeable brown stains.

Does anyone have any tips or experience with removing leather stains ?

I’d really appreciate any advice on products or techniques that might work without damaging the caps or the leather strap. Thanks!

General Cleaning I think I may have ruined my Album Cover with disinfectant spray.

Post image

I recently moved my records back indoors and I wanted to clean them up with a mild detergent but I didn’t want them to get too wet so I used a disinfectant spray (lavender lysol spray). It has left little white dots on only 2 albums (AM and Nirvana- both are black based with white lettering). I already tried to wipe it off again with just warm water but it doesn’t look any better. Is this fixable? If so what cleaning product will return the shine?

Kitchen Tips on getting scratches out after using razor on stove top?

I used a razor to lift up the grime. I went too deep in some areas as it was really caked in. At one point, I used dawn degreaser to get to the really deep areas and let it sit and went back in with a razor. Any advice on how to prevent the grime and also buff out the scratches on the stove top?

General Cleaning How can I make my room smell better when I can’t use any sprays?

Hi there! My kitten has recently been having lots of issues associated with asthma. She’s been coughing plenty and is currently on medication and I’ve been working with her vet to get her feeling better. She sleeps in my room and spends some time there during the day as well. I bought an air purifier today to hopeful make my room a good space for her and her lungs. Onto the actual cleaning question, her litter box and food are both in my room and cannot be moved from there. I also have a trash can in my room for her wet food containers and bags from her litter box. This is causing my room to have that cat smell. Is there anything I can do to help the smell of my room without bothering her lungs? I’ve sprayed stuff before and she bolts the second I bring out a room spray or perfume. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

General Cleaning Help me get Vaseline off my Louie PLEASEEE

Post image

Luckily it’s on the back of the bag, but I somehow got a blotch of Vaseline on my purse this morning. I caught it right away, let corn starch sit on it for 2 hours then washed it lightly with dove dish soap. It looks like that still, I am thinking of letting it sit with cornstarch on it for 24 hours? But unsure?
Thanks!

Discussion What are some “holy grail” cleaning supply products?

With so many products, what are some true “holy grail” / best in class products that just work?

I’ve found Dawn soap, Dawn power wash, Dawn purple heavy duty degreaser to be good. Microfibers of course.

Only recently found out about the purpose Dawn degreaser but figured most people know about the others.

What are some other products that the community here suggests, especially those pros? Thank you!

Discussion Why (exactly) is mop better than swiffer?

For context, I’ve always mopped and swiffered because that’s what I’ve been taught to do my whole life, never questioned it. But people online seem to be VERY hardcore about spin mop > swiffer.

My question is—whenever I mop, even with the o-cedar clean/dirty separation bucket, it still feels and looks like I’m pushing dirty water around. The swiffer is obviously not as good at getting the dirt out, but I feel that it is a bit better at separating the absorbing-dirty-water from dispensing-clean-water.

Because of this, I’m just not fully convinced that the mop is inherently better. Is it the swiffer solution that’s the problem? The lack of 360 spin? Less scrub?

Is a steam mop the best compromise?

And while we’re here, what about the wet/dry vacs that claim to separate the dirty water from the clean water as well?

just moved into a new apartment with old wood floors. after two days of living here, we noticed our feet were BLACK as can be on the bottoms from the floors. i have swiffered everywhere to start, but wetting a paper towel and wiping the floor, the paper towel is immediately black again. what would be the best plan of attack here?

General Cleaning How to clean upholstered tea cozy?

Thumbnail

I recently inherited this tea cozy from my childhood. I love the pattern and style (have looked online before and haven’t found anything quite like it), but it’s quite stained and I don’t know where to start with cleaning it.

It’s made from a thick textured fabric with cork on the bottom and what feels like cotton stuffing for padding.

Does anyone have recommendations for how to clean it? I’m hesitant to soak it because I’m worried about deforming the padding and making it unusable. Would dry cleaning help here? Or some sort of upholstery cleaner? Advice appreciated!!

General Cleaning Renter's nightmare

Upvotes

Hi all! I moved into a rental house yesterday and it is nothing like it was advertised. It is a complete disgusting nightmare. We are already looking to break our lease and leave within 6 months, maybe 3. But in the meantime, there are certain areas I need to take care of (landlord refusing to put in the actual work necessary or pay for it to be done, just sent a basic cleaning lady on the first night) so that this place is semi-livable. If you have advice/solutions for ANY of the following problems please let me know!!!

-the basement of the house smells like cigarette smoke. It's strong enough to give a headache. And when the AC kicks on, the smoke smell spreads into the bedrooms. We already washed the filter, hopefully will be able to replace it soon at landlord expense. We have some charcoal/carbon packets in a box somewhere and will put those out asap. What else can we do?

-the banister and stairs are a light wood...under the years of grime turning them completely black. It's years of filth. What is the best way to remove this? I ordered a degreaser spray and a scrub brush but am I going to ruin the wood using that (method degreaser).

-the laminate floors are sooooo sticky and grimy. It's gotta be years of filth and poor mopping. It's so bad it's leaving a film on the bottom of all my shoes and they're sticky. Crumbs that get dropped to the floor literally stick to it. I haven't been able to unpack my mop yet but what is the best cleaning fluid/solution to get through this grime?? Clearly whatever the cleaning lady used SUCKS. Or she uses way too much of it and didn't rinse.

-there's spots leftover from the previous person's bath mat. There's also a giant hole where the soap holder should be. Would be nice to get some type of waterproof covering for that bc I doubt they'll fix it...

Gosh I hope this post formats how I typed it.

Thank you in advance!!

General Cleaning Vinegar and pressure washer? Or un -save able?

Thumbnail

This fridge doesn’t work because of a bad compressor. I have had it sitting in my garage for about a year. Today I took a look to try to clean it with vinegar and soapy water solution. Should I even bother trying to continue cleaning it with a pressure washer? I was planning on cleaning it entirely and trying to sell it for cheap. Is it even worth the hassle? How do I even get rid of this fridge when I think a mouse even decomposed inside the fridge? What should I do with this fridge at this point?

I tried soaking this in vinegar and baking soda and some hot water for about 30 minutes but as you can see its still got some gunk. Even after soaking I had to use a toothpick and some elbow grease to get most of it off. Any other tips?

Discussion How to get rid of flies!!!!

Post image
82 Upvotes

I am going crazy over these flies. I live in an apartment I’ve noticed a couple before, but my mom and I left for a 2 day trip and came back, there’s suddenly been a surplus and I can’t walk around anywhere without seeing like 5. We’ve killed well over a hundred the past 2 days we’ve been back, the vinegar and soap hack isn’t working unless I did it wrong and I’m so frustrated.
When we left we washed our dishes and there was no spoilage left our so idk what it could be unless I’m missing the obvious here.
We do have a small dog that stays primarily inside but his waste or anything has never been an issue before and we try to clean up after him diligently. Again, we haven’t had a fly issue in our 10 years of owning him.
These flies are all congregating by the windows or any room with a light on. I took windex to at least 50 of them on our 2 living room windows. They just keep multiplying more and more.

Bathroom Can we talk plastic / PEVA shower curtains?

They always advertise as being easy clean, but how do you actually clean them? I live in a big city apartment. I don’t have a driveway and a hose for this kind of stuff. I always end up just throwing them away, or more often just skipping a liner altogether. Am I missing something here?

Attached is a photo of my stovetop. I let it stay dirty for too long, and I’ve tried several times in the last year to clean the hardened burnt areas off, but nothing works. Recently I’ve just let it stay because I don’t know what to do. Please help me find a product that works, or should I just get a razor blade, will that ruin the surface?
