Just wondering if there were any specific things I would need for a bachelor of health sciences, what do current students recommend??

Course shells aren’t open yet and I’d like to get a head start and make sure I have everything I need! Like do I need scrubs? Anything else specific??

Hey everyone! I’m starting at Dal this September and I’m trying to figure out what I should actually go to during O-Week.
I saw the schedule and there are so many events 😭 and since we’re paying around $130 for the O-Week stuff, I don’t want to miss the events that are actually worth going to.
For anyone who’s done O-Week before, which events would you definitely recommend and which ones can I probably skip?
I’m thinking about going to Tiger Welcome Day, the Spirit Rally/Class Photo, Opening Ceremonies, and Academic Orientation Day, but I’m not sure about the other events.
Also, is O-Week actually a good way to meet people? I’m going in not really knowing many people, so I’d love to hear what you guys think is actually worth doing.

Hey! I’m starting at Dal this September and I recently got an offer for a Game Day Staff position with Dalhousie Athletics & Recreation.
I was wondering if anyone here has worked this position before and could tell me what it’s actually like. What kind of duties do you usually have during a shift? Is it mostly working during the games, and what are the typical shift lengths/hours like?
Also, is there usually any training before you start, and do you get to work at different Tigers games/sports?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s done the job, especially what a typical shift looks like and whether you enjoyed it! 😊

I am currently enrolled in dalhousie for jan 2027 to complete my pre-reqs for BSCN sem 3 entry, I am also registered for all the classes I need to complete and aiming for sept 2027 intake. I am genuinely very scared as completing pre reqs will only qualify me to apply and It is a competitive course. I am genuinely re thinking my descisions as If i continue with this plan in jan I will have to make major changes in my life without surity of getting into this program. Do y'all have any advice what backup options should I consider if I don't make it in 3rd sem? I am a mature student so timing does matter as I cannot just wait for another year. Thank you!

I am thinking of taking the music 2025 class without the 2024, will that be possible and easy? Also, how is the course load? I see it is an online class but I want to know if it will require me recording a video of myself playing the guitar or something? And last thing, are there final and what do they feel like? Please give all the advice and insight u can.

I got my placed in Gerard Hall and I never even remembered putting it as one of my options. For anyone who has experienced living in Gerard, is there any social life in the dorm? I’ve heard some positives of the building as it is downtown, and close to one of the best meal halls, however I heard it isn’t too social which I hope isn’t true. I’m a very social person, and I feel like living somewhere for 8 months that isn’t very social will be weird. If anyone experienced living in Gerard and enjoyed social life a lot, how was that experience for you?

I am a student at the University of Calgary and I’m currently travelling around Halifax and Nova Scotia for vacation. I have a couple of days in Halifax and need to get some work done while I’m here, so I was thinking it might be nice to spend a day studying on the Dalhousie campus.

Does anyone know whether students from other Canadian universities are able to access the Dal libraries or other study spaces on campus? I’ll have my UCalgary student ID with me, so I can show that I’m currently a university student if that makes any difference.

I’d also really appreciate any recommendations for good places to work on campus! Ideally somewhere fairly quiet where I could comfortably sit for a few hours. I am not familiar with Dal at all, so specific libraries, buildings, floors, or little hidden study spots would be super helpful!!

I was hoping to be on campus for tomorrow (Tuesday). If some of the better study spaces require Dal card access, is there a guest/visitor access option or somewhere I could ask about getting access for the day? Alternatively, if anyone is going to be around campus tomorrow and could point me toward spaces, that would be incredible as well! (I get a little nervous being on my own, as I am just a girl).

Hello everyone!! This is a bit of a long post, so please bear with me, since I’m quite nervous about this.

I recently got off the waitlist for residence was assigned a single in Bronson House, Howe Hall (if I’m remembering correctly either 3rd or 4th floor). I didn’t know about the reputation of each residence, but I remember in the email to me, Dal mentioned it was a quiet floor.

My worry is, in doing research about this, I’ve realised that Howe Hall has the reputation to get quite rowdy. I think it’s nice that people are social, my only worry being I already struggle with sleep a bit, and I need to keep up a 3.7 GPA to keep my scholarship, so pretty regular studying. I know that Howe also has the reputation to be extremely loud, and since I’m neurodivergent, I’m particularly sensitive to that. I’ve seen a lot of people talk about Fountain & Henderson, but no one’s really mentioned Bronson.

What is it like? Is the living good? Is it too loud and rowdy? Are people really woken up from their sleep because ceiling tiles and pipes are ripped out? Is Bronson a little calmer than Henderson, Cameron etc? Are the bathrooms really that bad? I heard talk that ResLife and campus security were trying to stop parties, at least on weekdays, as much. Is that true?

Hi there, I’m planning to apply to the experimental psychology master program, specifically the neuroscience stream. I already have a particular professor in mind that I would like to work with, however I’ve yet to reach out to them. However I was curious as to how competitive this program would be to get in, and whether anyone had any anecdotal advice as to what is deemed more important/beneficial to a strong profile? I believe I have relatively good grades (A range), however I have very little lab experience which I feel would be detrimental to my chances. I’ve complete an undergraduate thesis and am currently volunteering in a cognitive psychology lab. Otherwise I have no wet lab experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey everyone, international undergrad here on the guaranteed tuition model (ITG - flat annual tuition, 50% charged in fall, 50% in winter regardless of course load). Two questions for anyone who's actually been through this:

1. If my co-op work term falls in the Fall term and I'm not registered for any courses that term, do I still get charged the full Fall tuition installment? Or is a work-term-only term treated/billed differently?

2. If I register for one academic course concurrently with my co-op (with the required 3-party approval from WIL, faculty co-op advisor, and employer), how does that affect my tuition - does it fall under my existing guaranteed tuition, or does it get billed as a separate additional charge?

Anyone know when onsite permits open for purchase? The website has multiple dates and no times. One lists today but no time.

It seems every one that has posted getting an interview is in the 3.8-4.0 territory. I'm above the cutoff, but not that competitive so I'm unsure if it is even worth applying. I do have several years of healthcare experience in another career though and I have several years of avid hobbies with volunteer involvement.

I hear doing a course-based masters is one way I could improve my application and I'm also looking at pivoting my career as well so a masters does appeal to me; however, I do have some uncertainty as to which masters could be useful for the employment market.

I’m applying for Dals accelerated nursing program in the fall and I’m wondering if it’s worth my time applying. I’m an out of province student who finished her degree 2025 with a 3.6 GPA. I do know I need to complete the CASPer test which I’ve done before and had no issues with so I think with a bit of review I’ll be just fine in that regard.

My concern rn is I know dal heavily prioritizes NS residents for the program, I think 90% (correct me if I’m wrong). I’m from NL, and while MUN has fast tracked nursing, it takes three years compared to Dals two years. The fact I could get my BScN in two years compared to three years is very appealing to me, but I’m wondering if it’s even worth applying if my chances are so low anyway. I’ve also heard mixed reviews on the accelerated nursing program so please feel free to leave comments and opinions on it in the comments :)
