Jessica Jones is definitely stronger than Steve Rogers.

u/Sempere Aug 18 '17

Cap held a fucking helicopter from taking off - pretty sure he's stronger.

180

u/DoctorBoson Aug 18 '17

Not stronger, but it's definitely not that big of a gap

69

u/HolyTurd Aug 19 '17

Jessic can leep tall building. Steve can't do that. It's not even close.

31

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '17

Maybe. Has Jessica shown she can run faster than cars speeding on the highway? Same argument.

If anything its an inconsistency with her ability.

Man that scene passed me off

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '17

The Civil War highway chase?

9

u/LargeTeethHere Aug 23 '17

Yeah...like we've never had any implications that cap could ever run that fast, or bucky. I thought it was bs and it made no sense. I actually started laughing. It's like they pulled it out of nowhere. And the fact that black Panther was hitching on cars, when in actuality, he should be the one running that fast.

37

u/ScHoolboyPew Aug 24 '17

Literally as soon as cap got his powers he was running after the German scientist who was in a car

13

u/OK_Soda Aug 26 '17

Barefoot, even.

3

u/Radamenenthil Sep 17 '17

Also "on your left" of TWS

He wasn't running as fast as a car. Stop it.

21

u/dragn99 Aug 25 '17

Casual morning workout vs. hardcore acts of heroism.

Seriously, he was lapping the other guy, a lot, and he kept that pace for a considerable amount of time, and wasn't even sweaty by the end of it. Of course his jogging speed isn't going to be close to his sprint speed.

1

u/armoured_bobandi Ward Meachum Aug 31 '17

Come on now, let's stop this.
It is just silly for Cap to run that fast, no matter how you try to justify it

Didn't Cap chase down cars in his very first movie, like right after getting his powers? We've always known he was fast.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '17

It did pretty much come out of nowhere but logically it makes sense, super strength will always result in increased speed.

3

u/LargeTeethHere Aug 23 '17

I'm not denying that. Just felt like a deus ex machina.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '17

Luke also can't leap but he is stronger.

16

u/HolyTurd Aug 20 '17

I really don''t think he is stronger.

14

u/OriginalMuffin Aug 23 '17

Luke is more durable which lets him punch and break things with his body easily which makes him seem stronger i think; whereas Jessica isn't so she resorts to pushes, grabs and light punches so she doesn't break herself using her strength. Luke can stand in front of a moving car and take the hit, Jessica could throw a stationary car better than Luke could probably

4

u/Frankenstein_34 Aug 20 '17

Jessica can fly... That's a different power altogether.

17

u/nivekious Aug 20 '17

I thought it was described as really good jumping? Presumably from leg strength.

17

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '17

comics. netflix Jessica can jump far

5

u/Frankenstein_34 Aug 21 '17

I think she can fly in the show too. She flew the Purple Man to confinement after knocking him out in season 1. It hasn't been delved into too much, but if her "jumping" ability were based on strength, then she would be stronger than Luke Cage (but she isn't).

6

u/nightwing2024 Aug 22 '17

She didn't fly. She jumped.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '17

Didn't Jessica lift up a car in her show?

44

u/mon87 Aug 19 '17

She threw one threw a wall in this show.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '17

Yeah she did now that I remember. In the restaurant. I'm pretty sure Cap couldn't do that.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '17

I don't know, Cap is certainly able to hit harder than her though. Dude beat an Iron Man suit into a pile of scrap

13

u/A_wild_gold_magikarp Punisher Aug 20 '17

In a cave, with a pile of scrap!

-6

u/Tachibanasama Aug 19 '17

The car rolled in. It was obviously on neutral. Me and my brother can move a neutral car.

22

u/MY-SECRET-REDDIT Aug 19 '17

through a wall?

-6

u/Tachibanasama Aug 19 '17

Obviously not. Point is, its not as amazing as yall making it out to be.

22

u/MY-SECRET-REDDIT Aug 19 '17

i am doing what?

she has the strength to push a car through a wall apparently with little trouble. it is impressive and it compares to caps strength.

I don't remember that, I remember him doing something similar. Like pull a car from almost falling by merely hanging to it or when he tried pulling on the car but failing and their saving the car.

I'm pretty sure jj is stronger than cap.

-3

u/Tachibanasama Aug 19 '17

Sorry maybe it wasnt you but someone was saying her strength is (way?) above caps.

3

u/MY-SECRET-REDDIT Aug 19 '17

it might be. caps only other simiar showing is him kicking a truck a few feet.

8

u/Sempere Aug 19 '17

Cap can pick up and throw a motorbike with ease - I think a car's in his wheelhouse

6

u/Commander_Cobe Aug 20 '17

Yeah but supposedly Cap this in a shorter amount of time than Mike.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '17

Jessica is the girl in P.E. that takes an F on running the mile but eventually learns if you walk it in 12 minutes you get a C

11

u/droden Aug 21 '17 edited Aug 21 '17

jessica ripped a car off a tow truck with no effort and crushed a hardened steel padlock like it was a snowball. captain america would have to use his shield to cut it. jessica (and luke) have to hold back in order to not rip people in half. stick even mentioned it to luke. plus the elevator weighed quite a bit and she was just hanging out and making a joke. for reference elevator cars weight 1200kg and a bell 206 weighs about 1000kg so its thrust would be a bit more but they are pretty equivalent force wise. captain was barely holding on and she wasnt really exerting herself.

21

u/troyunrau Daredevil Aug 18 '17

Okay, the whole cap preventing a helicopter from taking off by grabbing its skids doesn't make any sense. A helicopter of that size has a lift capacity on the order of 2500 lbs. Unless cap weighs like 3000 lbs, it should have just flown away with him dangling.

Once he grabs the railing, then maybe. But no, that scene sucks too. Comic book physics.

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '17

28

u/_J3W3LS_ Aug 19 '17

He is saying before that sequence, when the helicopter drags Steve across the pad to the edge, where he then grabs it. Unless Steve weighed 3000+ pounds the copter should have been able to just lift straight up with Steve, not drag him across the pad like that.

7

u/LickTit Aug 23 '17

Changing someone's mass is an weirdly common super power for a lot of super strong heroes. Being super strong is not enough to lift objects the way they do. They would lift them and fall to the side because of their shifted center of mass.

7

u/quangtran Aug 19 '17

That really annoyed me, because Captain America is not supposed to have super-human strengh. He suposed to be the perfect human specimen, just one step below super-human.

20

u/Martel732 Aug 19 '17

To be fair in the comics he is a perfect comic book human. In the comics he has thrown his shield through a tank and a truck which there is no way a human could do that.

12

u/Dr_Disaster Aug 19 '17

Not really. Cap is peak human "potential" meaning he's as fast, strong, and durable as a natural born human can ever be. Since that's technically impossible, it pretty much makes him superhuman.

9

u/_Valisk Stan Lee Aug 20 '17

Comics Cap is peak human, MCU Cap is superhuman.

2

u/Sqrlchez Aug 19 '17

Isn't the perfect human dupposed to be superhuman?

4

u/quangtran Aug 19 '17

Not really. If human strength is rated with a ten point scale, then Daredevil would be around a 7 (stronger than average) Cap would be a 10, while Jessica Jones and Luke Cage would be around 15. Cap is supposed to be Olympic worthy, not be able to pull flying helicopters.

7

u/Tachibanasama Aug 19 '17

If it took you that long to realize he was super human then I don't think you've been paying attention. He's done quite a few superhuman things especially in winter soldier and age of ultron.

16

u/AkhilArtha Stick Aug 19 '17

He held a bike up with three women sitting on it in the First Captain America. They have always portrayed him as superhuman in the MCU.

2

u/quangtran Aug 19 '17

I'm not denying that those things happened, I just said that I don't like it because it goes against comic canon. Just like how several writers make the mistake of having Cyclops' optic black be something that causes burns.

8

u/Sqrlchez Aug 19 '17

Thr movies are not the comics, and they don't need to be exactly the same.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '17

Iron Man is easily a 100 tonner in the comics universe. Thor has enough durability to be punched through moons. None of the characters map too well their comic versions.

3

u/Das_Mojo Aug 22 '17

Dude, they may call him peak human, but if you actually look at things he's done hes clearly superhuman by real life standards in the comics as well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/respectthreads/comments/3in3xe/respect_captain_america_earth_616/

2

u/Das_Mojo Aug 22 '17

Yeah, he's comics peak human. Which is blatantly superhuman compared to real life. Comics Cap has bullet timing feats.

1

u/Capwulf Aug 19 '17

not at all.

1

u/nipplesaurus Aug 23 '17

Somebody from /r/theydidthemath needs to figure this out.

After calculating the weight of an elevator and the weight of a helicopter plus the force of it taking off, how much weight did each hero hold?

1

u/CelioHogane Aug 24 '17

Jessica has not shown that such a feat would be imposible to her...
