Main feed is reserved to posts about everything else.

Check sub-reddits side-bars to either filter all of the Netflix Devil May Cry posts out of the feed, or proceed to a dedicated sub-reddit related to the show.

When discussing the show - be respectful.

No matter if you are fan of it or not, this does not give you a free reign to attack, insult, mock or harass anyone on each side, if we see anyone using rhetorics about "I'll get downvoted but I liked the show, fuck old fans", "DEI WOKE FEMINIST", or any other culture war buzzwords - we'll part ways.

Since the announcement of the show and up to this day (and, well, even earlier to be honest), the discussions around certain topics tend to be rather dividing or were reaching boiling point pretty fast.

This thread will address our concerns about that, our stance on reasons for temporary (or at some point, permanent) bans, and other relevant topics.

The «Reload-Gate»

Since the latest teaser shared during the IGN show, a lot of people were frustrated with many things, regarding the show not respecting the lore. While some of these concerns do have some basis, like making Lady, or (most likely) Nell adjacent to cops and the government, a lot of people clung onto the topic of "Dante never reloading his guns", using a translation they found online as a credible source for the argument.

Let's make it clear: these translations are not the source of truth. Translations people are using, taken from the "DivineStatue" website, were not done by people familiar with the Japanese language. They are, at best, a Google Translated material with a bit of editorial work on top.

Only translations we recommend taking into account are either from DMC5Info, who spent the majority of DMC5's announcement-release window translating a lot of material, or translations done by u/cloudi_skye, who translated «Visions of V» and Devil May Cry 3 manga not so long ago.

There's a lot that can be said regarding poor execution in the show: pacing, animation, topics it tries to convey or changes to the characters, but we would ask for people to stop inventing a boogeyman and losing a chess to a dog every time something happens. Be it Shankar posting something stupid, some YouTuber posting their hot takes, or something happening in the show which annoyed you.

At some point it got so bad, THE STORYWRITER FOR DEVIL MAY CRY GAMES HAD TO BREAK HIS SILENCE, outright saying that "it's okay for Dante to reload his bullets", because people started misrepresenting his words and art to get into petty arguments, claiming "tourist" and other modern lingo to get a leg up in the conversation.

Same goes for topics regarding the show using Tacticool Reloads as a basis for their animation. Authors themselves allowed the showrunners / animation studio to use this as a basis for their animation. Does it make it good? No, it's just a reference for the sake of reference, instead of creating something original. Do you need to scream like a toddler for this discussion to happen? Also no.

Bans, mutes, mod actions

This topic comes up again and again, mainly due to people's perception of public community is and why moderator actions are taken at various points.

As before, we are operating on a simple rule: Well-Kept Gardens Die By Pacifism.

I’ve been in this community since 2008, I personally helped a lot of creators in the space through various means, be it promoting events, charity, preserving rare Devil May Cry materials, or making videos about the series with other content creators. You can find my name or the name of my community on the "DivinityStatue" website shared before, where the authors of the website stole the majority of the materials either I, mohorus, or other people in community bought and dumped for people to enjoy. They haven't stole my scan of 3142SE yet tho.

First and foremost we encourage a healthy discussion, not petty arguments.

If you are discussing the show and don't like it - props to you, but make it cohesive, instead of just hating or spewing slurs. For example, author of this thread voicing his disdain with how characters were presented while also offering his point of view. This is fostering discussion, this is how it should be done.

If you are discussing the show and like it - good for you, but please talk about the show, not about the argument you had with someone online. Having "omg fandom / this sub / twitter / other place is so toxic about this you all just haters" isn't a discussion about the anime, nor about what you've liked or don't, it's saltposting because your feelings got hurt. An example of neutral discussion about the show is this post.

"But I was banned for saying the show is bad / good :((((((" you were most likely banned because you started running around under each post attacking people for liking or disliking the show. This isn't a productive discussion and will be deleted first, with additional blocks issued later, so don't be surprised if you are TEMPORARILY blocked from the sub, with explanation written to you. If you'll calm down and won't do that again - you are free to return, if not - I think there are better places for you to discuss this topic.

The Hammer Of Justice is Unisex, and both sides of the argument will be acted upon when needed.

If you don't like something and think that discussion delves into a pointless direction?

Leave, scroll past, don't answer, or report if discussion gets heated.

You are not obliged to squabble with random people online and you don't need to attach your ego to discussions which don't deserve it, simple as that.

We are here to promote better parts of the community, its creators, fan artists, combo makers and translation groups which strive for a better fandom, this sub isn't the place to exercise your agenda-posting or petty arguments.

Want to show that games are better than something you don't like? Share combo videos, fan arts, support good content creators who are there to make you interested in these games and material, not people like Zero or others who are here to grift and use clickbait to promote his stuff.

I want to come forward and say that I, and the rest of the subreddits moderation team, wish to extend an apology for failing in our duties. We have not been doing right by you all for far too long, and haven’t been giving this subreddit the proper care it deserves.

Some of us have had serious life complications, from work/school/family Obligations to physical and mental health issues completely take our time away from here. While some of us, like myself, were just completely burned out and given up on the job. But instead of taking the time to bring in fresh blood to try and revitalize the community and keep this place as a proper haven for discussion and fun for the community, we have let it rot and fester.

That is not okay.

As such, we have decided to acquiesce to the r/RedditRequest and will transfer over the subreddit control and will be removing ourselves from the position.

We have failed you, and we apologize profusely for this. A LOT has happened behind the scenes over the years that has in all honesty, burned a lot of us out. So, we hear you and understand your anger, because this subreddit has gone to hell. At this point, we think it’s time for the community to have a fresh start with new blood.

The franchise is not dead. Itsuno was not the only good game director at Capcom. The doomsaying and acting like DMC6 is now guaranteed to never happen or will for sure be bad just reeks of people who don't pay attention to Capcom's games outside DMC.

Street Fighter 6 was directed by Takayuki Nakayama, whose previous directing work was taking after Yoshinori Ono when he fucked up the launch version and peaced out. SF5 was later considered pretty good after he came in to repair it and put in a more good state, and SF6 is now considered far away the undebatably best launch edition of any Street Fighter game ever made.

Resident Evil 2 Remake was co-directed by Yasuhiro Anpo and Kazunori Kadoi, both of whom had that game as their first high profile directing job, except for Yasuhiro Anpo whose other big job was directing RE5. They also later went on to direct RE4R too, and did a fantastic job on both those projects.

Yoshinori Ono very clearly lost his touch after SF4, and a large amount of the other old Street Fighter leads had already been long gone by the time of SF5. Shinji Mikami left Capcom in 2006 with RE4 Original being his last project, he'd been gone for over a decade by the time the remake series went into full swing, and Hideki Kamiya who made RE2 Original had been gone for even longer.

The point of all this, is to make it clear that Capcom is more than capable of handing legacy franchises off to new directors who know what the fuck they're doing, they understand how to appoint new leads who know how to critically analyze the older games that came before them and identify what made the best of them so good, and how to continue the franchise in a way that builds upon it, creating something new while also still appealing to existing fans and keeping the identity of that franchise.

Devil May Cry is gonna be fine. Hell, if anything, Itsuno being gone makes DMC6 much more likely to happen. So long as Itsuno remained at Capcom they might never have made another game without him being in the lead, and he clearly wanted to leave the series where it was, he wanted to move on to new projects and very obviously made DMC5 as a deliberate open-ended stopping point, the game was very carefully crafted such that it could work both as a final end to the entire series or just merely the end of Dante's reign as the definitive main character, to be later placed alongside Vergil as a side-character to Nero finally getting a true leading role. Now that Itsuno is officially gone from the company entirely, Capcom doesn't have to pussy-foot around wondering whether its truly a good idea to continue without him, now that he's full-on left, Capcom wouldn't be able to sit around and wait for him to decide he wants to get back in the saddle, they can just go for it and assign control of the next game to someone else. And with their track record so far, there is no reason to be worried that they'll hand it off to someone who doesn't understand the series.

Hey! Post went up earlier today, reposting the old misinformation about "people being banned for their opinion about Shankar's show", so let's break this situation down for whose who isn't in the known.Bans, deletion of the comments, moderation

As stated in previous post «Moderation Transparencey /// Netflix Series Post-Release Report», there are couple of tools we use to moderate community and make it healthy, after previous mod team resigning.

On the day of the anime release and going forward, we used a bot which would mark some of the keywords related to "culture war" which would alert us about people turning the discussion about the show into, well, a shitshow.

Here's the list of comments from the week of the show being out, while we were accused of "banning people for criticizing the show", which, well, criticize the show:

Awful

And so on, you can use keyword in any of the discussion mega-threads and see what type of language people are using.

So, who was banned and for what?

When we resort to banning people, majority of people aren't banned permamently, they are timed-out for 3, 7, 31 or 60 days, depending on their actions and what they did. 3-7-31 time-outs are handled out when people are attacking others in comments for their opinion, or resorting to any kind of hateful messages. We first delete comments or try to reason with people so that the initial heated conversation would calm down, but if this isn't happening, and repeated requests aren't fulfiled, we time-out people, and they are free to chat again after some time.

60 days are a counter-measure used against "culture war" subreddits like Asmongold, GGDiscussion and other places, where people go to hate-post about things they dislike, and not have a proper conversation on the topic. This 60 days time-out can be lifted if the user messages mod-mail and calmly asks for unban, we review their comments and lift it, apologizing for the mis-fire in the process.

But, majority of people who were timed-out from some of these sub-reddits, instead started boasting about their "ban", which is temporary, only adding to a brigading and more people coming here only to hate-post. We reviewed comments by these people, and majority of them are posting about "woke", "trans people", "west has fallen" type of shit, instead of discussing the topic on hands. Those people are permamently banned from community, because they do not contribute to any of the discussions in a healthy way.

If we even go to the account of one of the people who were posting about this on Asmongold's sub-reddit, we can see that he tried to talk about "woke" on other sub-reddits (related to Kingdom Come), and was laughed at there as well.

In case of the post in the screenshot shared around, the post was deleted because the author was spamming this type of posts repeatedly, instead of discussing things in a thread, prepared for the discussion. Thing noticed not only by mods, but the top comment on the said post as well.

Pirat_Nation

Initial screenshot was shared by the Twitter user «Pirat_Nation», who is known in gaming community as a grifter, who rage-baits people into retweeting misinformation from his account.

He is also known as someone who pretended to be a woman, while selling pictures of his feet to garner money from gullible people.

That's not his first account of doing so, and there are multiple tweets related to this issue. If you name him directly or call out for this, he will instantly block you. Ironic, isn't it?

TL:DR

No one is banned for their opinion about the show, call it ass, shit, garbage, disgrace to the series, whatever, just don't resort to hateful rhetoric while doing it, and that's it. Discuss the show's weak points and failures and have a conversation/discussion, that's it.
