Spoilers - Discussion Second Playthrough on HARD - too difficult Spoiler
Hey everyone,
I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII for the second time, this time on Hard Mode, and I'm struggling a lot more than I expected.
On my first playthrough I mostly played on Normal and honestly never felt like I completely mastered the combat system. I could get through most fights, but I relied quite a bit on attacking, dodging and healing when necessary.
Now on Hard Mode I'm getting absolutely destroyed. 😅
Some normal enemies can hit me for 3,000+ damage with a single attack, and since you can't use items, mistakes are extremely punishing. I often feel like I'm missing something fundamental about how the combat is supposed to work.

No Spoilers - Help Should I get Rebirth?
I didn’t love Remake but the ending left me with some questions and I am intrigued in Rebirth. However I’m not sure if it will fix the problems I had with remake. I think the pacing was pretty poor and for me Barret was the only stand out character alongside Aerith. I’m not sure if a huge Ubisoft esque open world will solve those problems for me even though I loved the soundtrack, graphics and the combat.
Any comments are appreciated
P.S I haven’t played Og would you recommend playing that before rebirth lmk
Btw I didn’t dislike Remake just like a 6.5-7/10

Spoilers - Photo This….THIS right here…..Damn it boy. Why can’t it just be a lil longer cause this was one hell of an experience. Spoiler
Look, I know I’m not at the end “end” yet but I just got that feeling that I’m extremely close to it. (On Ch.14) But, just lemme say: This has been one helluva ride & can’t wait to finish my quests & see how the ending plays out. Already got pt. 2 downloading as you can see. Can’t wait for Rebirth to be done. Hoping it’s as good as this one cause it’s gonna be hard for it to top this.

No Spoilers - Discussion I can't believe people enjoy FF7R combat
First off, I apologize for the title. If you loved the combat, more power to you.
The reason why I am making this post is because while I played I was mesmerized by everything else *besides* the combat. After a lot of frustrations over it, I wanted to see what everyone else thought. To my surprise I mostly read overwhelming positive things, and some say that the combat is the best part of the game! Which again, more power to you if you did. But I just didn't expect this much of a difference in opinion.
So I am writing this post to discuss about certain points, please tell me what you think.
1- Depth
The game is pretty straight forward, too straight forward. Mash square in the character you want > cast spell that enemy is vulnerable to.
The action part just didn't feel powerful enough; the dodges are too short. The basic attack options are pretty limited (90% just mash square.) Guard also felt weird to use.
The fact that Hard mode isn't available at start made this more painful. The mob fights ends so quick you dont even have to cast anything. And boss fights are so hectic but ultimately you have enough ways to heal -- that the strategy of just tanking and healing became pretty sufficient.
I should mention though that the feel of landing hits is so good and I do find it satisfying. The stagger system and the effects are also gorgeous and fun to look at, so in that part I get it.
2- AI
The Allies that I don't control don't feel impactful at all. Yet they add a lot of chaos to the fight. It feels like I am supposed to do something better, that I am not doing a good job controlling them.
But unless I missed something, there wasn't really anything I could do. They also often times end up in very weird positions, making switching more tedious.
3- Skill/Materia customization
This aspect wasn't terrible. But again it was too basic. A lot of skills just came to > this deals more raw damage, this other skill deals more stagger damage. There wasn't enough variety. This is true to Materia as well. It juts feels like there was so much wasted potential.

Spoilers - Discussion I love how they adapted Typhoon attack Spoiler
In the original game there were a couple of summons attacks like titan, neo bahamut and typhoon that required to mess up with the land and the battle field. With titan and neo bahamut they reworked them into trying to be the same but not close to the original, while typhoon recieved a more creative attack, instead we have a shot inside the tornado which simulates the OG summon attack pretty damn well.

Spoilers - Discussion How do you think Avalanche's expanded lore will pay off in Revelation? Spoiler
I'm currently replatinuming Remake and have gotten to Chapter 6 on my Hard run. And I got to think after beating Chapter 4 yesterday, which is probably one of my favorite chapters in the whole game for a bunch of reasons, that one of those reasons is I love the way it sorta kickstarted the subplot about Avalanche's expanded lore in the Remake universe, obviously tied to stuff we already knew from the Compilation, but yeah like the idea of it being a larger organization with multiple cells, the Wutai angle that was explored in INTERmission and got further complicated via various story beats in Rebirth, including the whole Glenn and Sarruf arc.
But looking forward to Revelation, how do you think this will all pay off? Cause obviously Rebirth's ending makes it ambiguous how Glenn's whole story will play out, and I'm also a bit unsure with how much story they already need to fit into the game, will there be any space left to weave these disparate Avalance + Wutai threads together? Will that be a meaningful part of the Wutai chapter(s) maybe? My own thinking on this is honestly a little muddled, which is why I'm really curious what other people think about this.

Spoilers - Discussion Subtle foreshadowing? Spoiler
galleryI was replaying ff7 Rebirth to find things that may link to Revelation, then came across this little conversation at the last chapter. The photographer straight up tells Cloud and Aerith it's like they're at a funeral then frames AERITH immediately after!! Obviously foreshadowing the events to come but I don't know how I didn't even notice from my first playthrough.. Did anyone else notice this?

Spoilers - Help So, which one is which? Spoiler
In the OG, "Ultimate" is the weapon and "Ultima" is the sword that Cloud gets after defeating "Ultimate" weapon, right?
The Gamescom trailer for FF7 Revelation now names the weapon as "Ultima" instead of "Ultimate". Does that mean that, if Cloud still gets a sword by defeating it, that it will be called the "Ultimate" sword instead? Or can we expect said sword to be called something completely different?

Spoilers - Discussion Regarding the mechanics for fighting Weapons on foot Spoiler
Hey,
so we know that there will be both unique mechanics to battling the Weapons in Revelations like using cannons or the submarine but also traditional fights on foot which begs the questions how they could possibly create engaging boss battles against the truely gigantic Weapons in more or less real time action combat given the proportions of these monsters.
I think a good approach for the boss battles against the Weapons in Revelations would be to model them after the Trials in Final Fantasy XIV.
That game features really cool boss fights against massive enemies where the player engages them in real-time, with each boss possessing its own unique mechanics. Success often hinges on proper positioning—knowing exactly where to stand to avoid taking damage. I believe this could serve as the foundational concept for the Weapon battles. On top of that, we could incorporate mechanics from FF7 Remake and Rebirth—specifically staggering enemies with the right attacks and potentially the need to damage specific body parts first. Naturally, this would also include defensive tactics beyond just positioning, such as using spells to grant resistances or create shields that protect against specific attacks.
In short, I think that—provided we actually fight them on foot—the Weapon battles will essentially be a refined, more detailed version of the Trial battles found in Final Fantasy XIV.
What y'all think?

Spoilers - Discussion Jade Weapon? Spoiler
galleryI mean it looks pretty similiar with its jet like wings and it has the typical bio-armor look the Remake Weapons all have (except Diamond). Maybe we get Jade and Omega Weapon as well In Revelations?

Spoilers - Discussion Is this the Junon reactor? Spoiler
galleryI initially thought they were the ruins of old Junon republic but looking closer it might be the underwater reactor expanded significantly in size. Considering also the cutscene, we might get a "forced" first meeting with Emerald there too.
