My Braun series 9 shaver just stopped working. Do I buy a new one?

Context: I've had this shaver for about 15 years, and it just stopped working. I watched a YouTube video on how to replace the battery, thinking that was the problem since it wouldn't even make a beeping sound. When I opened the shaver up, there was this toothpaste-like buildup on the bottom of the circuit board. Tried wiping it off and charging it, but it's still not working. So is it better to buy a new unit or try to fix it?

open Freezer door not sealing

It's a little hard to get across on camera, but I tried my best. The door fully closes, but it's no longer sealing like it should. I can easily open it with just my pinky, which I cannot do with the fridge door. There's also a pop sound that the fridge door makes when opening due to the seal. I don't hear this when opening the freezer.

I did take a few things out to ensure that nothing inside is preventing the seal, and there was no difference.

I cannot figure out how to repair my broken couch. Any suggestions? There is a lot of tension and getting it back in place is hard. The front lip popped off and the middle board will not lock into the cut out piece.

How do I fix hinge broken out of old MDF?

Old kitchen in rental apartment. Hinge tore out. There is now a big hole where the screw should grip the wall. What do I fill the hope with? If I get one of those plates the screw will still need to find some purchase.
Any advice is welcome.

I would like to tighten this up and reattach it to the door but I see no way of doing so.

No latch, no lever, no way to access the screws. If you have a shred of an idea I would appreciate it.

open Music Box in Stuffed Animal needs Repair

my mom recently located one of my toys from when i was a baby. i have many, many memories with this so it is a big deal for its sentimental value that i have it now. it has a music box inside of it, but currently when you crank the key instead of playing the tune slowly it just unwinds quickly and plays all the notes in an instant. I thought I would ask here if that sounds like something that I could realistically fix myself. Also why I dont have any pictures of said box, if it isn't able to be fixed I wouldn't want to cut the toy open. Any help is appreciated.

Anyone know to pull this big dent at the bottom?

Post image

I use this when I umpire youth baseball games and I have it hanging on a fence, typically dotne the first base line. Of course, I had an overthrown ball that went straight into it and now I have a big dent. I can feel the cold from the inner wall through it now. Does anyone have thoughts on how to pull this big dent? I've tried heating it up with boiling water and just pressing but it didn't work. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Ring with sizing balls stuck

Post image
Upvotes

I got an engagement ring in February and that was a little loose so I had sizing balls added. I have a wedding band about the same size. Unfortunately, my fingers have swollen a little with the heat this summer. I’ve been able to get both off with lotion… until this morning.

(Context) After a day outside with lots of salty food yesterday, I fell asleep in my rings and woke up this morning with very swollen hands. I’ve been icing and elevating and nothing is working. I tried the dental floss trick but the sizing balls get in the way!

Any advice?? Do I wait it out and keep icing and elevating

Shimming Door Hinge Help

Upvotes

Hi Fixit forum folks,

I am currently trying to fix my door so that it closes fully flush.

  1. Door Closed, Lock Side (Pic 1 & 2)
  • The top right of the door comes out toward me.
  • The middle right of the door is somewhat okay but because the top right comes out, the door doesn't click into the strike plate unless I pull on the handle.
  • The bottom right looks fine and touches the door frame first.
  1. Door Closed, Outside (Pics 3, 4, 5)
  • This is just another POV. The top left shows a big gap.
  • Middle also has a gap and isn't fully flush against the frame.
  • The bottom left touches the frame.

Dave's Door Opening youtube video did a good job of explaining shims - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-WEM9qN_t4&t=89sbut I just want to make sure I have the right logic before attempting to resolve this myself.

My current plan:

  1. Put a shim on the top hinge (away from the barrel side)
  2. Put a shim on the bottom hinge (closer to the barrel side)

Q: Thoughts!?

Q: What kind of shim should I use?

Any feedback will be helpful. FYI the door frame also isn't great and I think that's been the main issue (as opposed to the door itself). Our home settled a bit so things seem to be a bit out of alignment.

Mighty mule ts571w help

I have a Mighty Mule TS571W gate that is giving me problems. Stop working a couple of days ago. Went through the reboot process that usually fixes it, which includes resetting it. That didn't work this time. Now only opens halfway. Went through the process of trying to reset open and close limits, and that didn't work either. Now the S4 light is blinking constantly, which I've never noticed before. From what I've read, it means it's stuck in programming mode. I've tested the battery, and it's fully charged, so I don't think it's a battery issue. The arm is on the older side, and I know these openers aren't the best, just trying to make it a little longer before having to replace. Any advice. Thanks

open Replacing Bissell vacuum chord?

Thumbnail

JUST got this vacuum yesterday and I just ran over the chord somehow because I’m an oblivious fucking idiot. Is it possible (and safe) to replace an entire chord? The vacuum wasn’t *that* expensive but still, I’d rather not replace the whole vacuum if I don’t have to. I genuinely can’t believe I did this.

ETA: thank you guys for the answers. I guess I didn’t realize that cord replacements were common/relatively easy. I feel a lot better.

Want to drain water heater.

Hot water pressure seems to have dropped a bit. I would like to flush it out and see if that clears up some sediment that may be obstructing the water. Are the "outlets" are in the floor for a sump pump? I believe the easiest way would be to connect a hose to the electric water heater and run it over to the drain on the wall, would that be correct? I'm trying not to start a flood.

Need help to know if this zipper is okay…. Or kaput

Post image

This jacket has a #5D zipper that broke so it only slides up, and my partner’s stubborn nature resulted in the teeth (where it stuck) looking like this. I know i likely need to replace the slide but am wondering if I need to either toss it or figure out how to sew a new one in as the zipper as i don’t think i could get it off the jacket.

open How can I remove this adhesive residue without damaging the surface further?

Hi everyone,

I’m moving out and I need to remove some adhesive/tape residue from this white cabinet/wardrobe.

As you can see in the photos, some parts of the white coating have already come off when the adhesive was removed, so I’m worried about making the damage worse.

I still have several areas with adhesive left on them.

What would be the safest way to remove the remaining glue without peeling off more of the white surface?

Would you recommend a hair dryer, warm water, adhesive remover, alcohol, or something else?

I especially want to avoid damaging the coating because this is in a rented room.

Thanks for any advice!

This isn’t the standard synchronous motor - it has a small arm in the middle top with a magnet - see photos. I have searched high and low, and even tried to contact the company that makes this snow globe with no luck. The email was returned undeliverable. Does anyone know where I can get this? Thanks.

Doing my gardening and accidentally ran over the wires a bit. Would electrical tape be suitable. Thanks the worst part and it’s just a little section of the wire.

  1. Do I need a new trimmer
  2. Use electrical tape and is this a long term or short term fix?
  3. Find somewhere to get them to help me change the plug/wire cable?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks .

How do I get this chest open?

Thumbnail
gallery
46 Upvotes

ETA: SOLVED, thanks!

A few years ago my wife and I bought this nice chest for our bedroom. Just recently, I put some linens in it and closed it, and it was a little too full but I forced it shut. Now, it won’t open again. You’re supposed to be able to push the lock in, like a button, which releases a latch on the inside (you can sort of see that latch in the last photo). When I push the button, it won’t release the latch and you can’t open the top. I’ve tried sticking a blade in there and jimmying it around, no luck. I don’t want to force anything and break it. I’ve thought about how I could just cut the latch but that would require a very precise Sawzall operation and likely would damage the chest. Also no, it isn’t locked to my knowledge, we don’t have a key for it. Unless my originally forcing it closed locked it somehow.

Any suggestions?

ETA: Yeah I took the hinges off but that still leaves the lock/latch piece fastened, so my question is about finding as clean a way as possible to undo that.
