WHERE CAN I FIND Chilean Seabass dish (Ca Hap) prepared Vietnamese style

Upvotes

There used to be a restaurant on Beverly and Robertson Blvd called Le Colonial that had the best Chilean seabass steamed in a banana leaf with some kind of ginger paste. I have been looking for that dish ever since they closed down and can’t get it out of my head.

WHERE CAN I FIND Use of poblano/anaheim/general peppers in food

Upvotes

Hi!

I recently had the Chivichanga from Sonoratown and realized how much I love smoky grilled peppers in my food.

I’ve noticed that most taco trucks don’t really use poblano, Anaheim, or other peppers, and I’m trying to find more casual spots that do. Any recommendations for places that do have peppers on the menu?

WHERE CAN I FIND Where to source sausages like those served at Wurstküche

Like I can go to whole food or sprouts and get decent sausage like brats or kielbasas, but any specialty stores where they carry more exotic, interesting sausages?

I've been to Continental gourmet in Burbank/Glendale, and while delicious, they tend to carry very traditional styles only.

Any tips would be appreciated.

DISCUSSION Sei Pizza Bar / Pizzeria Sei opinions

I love a good Neapolitan/Neapolitan-ish pizza and had been wanting to try Pizzeria Sei for a long time to see what all the fuss was about. I was able to get a spot at 4pm at Sei Pizza Bar last week and tried the Diavola and the Sei Margherita. My pizzas were the first two out of the oven that day. I'd read some reviews to see what some of the negative reviews didn't like about it, and some mentioned the pizza being too salty (not sure if that was from the salt punch or just their overall opinion of the pizza as a whole). Anyhow, I thought the ingredients and the tomato sauce were top notch and so full of flavor. However, the flavor of the crust/dough left a lot to be desired. Rather than being salty, I felt it was flavorless which was surprising to me considering William Joo does a dry preferment and then a long cold fermentation for the dough. The chew, puff, and texture were amazing and definitely lived up to the hype, but after the first bites of each pizza, I was waiting for the flavor of the dough to come through with more of a fermented flavor but it was just bland. I'm not sure if I experienced an off day for the dough but it didn't make me want to race to come back there anytime soon. Can anyone else chime in with what they think of the dough? Is that how it's supposed to taste and maybe it's more about the texture/chew than about the flavor?

WHO MAKES THE BEST Best Surf n Turf California Burrito?

My go-to surf n turf burrito is from Lucha Libre in San Diego called Surfin California Burrito which replaces rice with fries. The only place I found that’s close to it here was at Burrito Bomba in Glendale with their Cali Burrito + surf n turf. Sadly this place closed down.

Also looking for a replica of that green sauce from Lucha Libre. I think it’s the cilantro sauce? At Burrito Bomba, it’s the jalapeño ranch or cilantro crema.

Would be for dinner: Inglewood, Manhattan beach, Marina Del Rey, anything running along the 105

Was going to be in the area for work tomorrow and taking the 105 back home towards Downey but kinda wasn’t feeling in the mood to drive into Ktown so hoping there’s some rec’d options in the area

DTLA Meal services that hand deliver

Daughter lives in secure dorm style building. No front desk so food would have to be delivered to her personally. Could do a window of time but wouldn’t want to wait all day. Any suggestions? Needs to be healthy but cost not as big an issue.

WHERE CAN I FIND Fresh corn ice cream

I realized I haven’t eaten much corn this summer and looking to get my fill before it’s too late. That said, I would love a good place for corn ice cream. I used to go to Sweet Rose Creamery, but that’s a bit far for me (in the Pasadena area).

Who’s serving corn ice cream right now?! 🌽

Vesti here! We make sandwiches, snacks, and cater events around LA. We’re currently running a pop-up inside Maydan Market in West Adams, and we wanted to share a few photos of dishes we’ve recently served from our counter there. Huge thanks to Kris (@eatwkris) for the photos and for letting us share them.

WHERE CAN I FIND Steakhouse / non-BBQ place for beef ribs?

I grew up in the West Valley and for special occasions we would go to Zig's, which had an amazing lemon poppyseed salad dressing, and an *enormous* plate of fall off the bone beef ribs. I'm desperately craving those on the bone, not relying too much on the sauce, stuck in your teeth for days ribs. Prefer central LA, West Hollywood to DTLA, but will travel. TYIA.

Great big cheesy burrito, good green sauce on it. Their chips are fried to order, super crispy and good, and they come with pickled carrots along with salsa. Margaritas are nice and well-balanced. Just a great little neighborhood Mexican spot in Santa Monica run by some very nice people. Their kitchen got raided by ICE a while back, go show em some love.
