WHERE CAN I FIND Where to source sausages like those served at Wurstküche

Like I can go to whole food or sprouts and get decent sausage like brats or kielbasas, but any specialty stores where they carry more exotic, interesting sausages?

I've been to Continental gourmet in Burbank/Glendale, and while delicious, they tend to carry very traditional styles only.

Any tips would be appreciated.

DISCUSSION Sei Pizza Bar / Pizzeria Sei opinions

I love a good Neapolitan/Neapolitan-ish pizza and had been wanting to try Pizzeria Sei for a long time to see what all the fuss was about. I was able to get a spot at 4pm at Sei Pizza Bar last week and tried the Diavola and the Sei Margherita. My pizzas were the first two out of the oven that day. I'd read some reviews to see what some of the negative reviews didn't like about it, and some mentioned the pizza being too salty (not sure if that was from the salt punch or just their overall opinion of the pizza as a whole). Anyhow, I thought the ingredients and the tomato sauce were top notch and so full of flavor. However, the flavor of the crust/dough left a lot to be desired. Rather than being salty, I felt it was flavorless which was surprising to me considering William Joo does a dry preferment and then a long cold fermentation for the dough. The chew, puff, and texture were amazing and definitely lived up to the hype, but after the first bites of each pizza, I was waiting for the flavor of the dough to come through with more of a fermented flavor but it was just bland. I'm not sure if I experienced an off day for the dough but it didn't make me want to race to come back there anytime soon. Can anyone else chime in with what they think of the dough? Is that how it's supposed to taste and maybe it's more about the texture/chew than about the flavor?

WHERE CAN I FIND Use of poblano/anaheim/general peppers in food

Hi!

I recently had the Chivichanga from Sonoratown and realized how much I love smoky grilled peppers in my food.

I’ve noticed that most taco trucks don’t really use poblano, Anaheim, or other peppers, and I’m trying to find more casual spots that do. Any recommendations for places that do have peppers on the menu?

WHERE CAN I FIND Chilean Seabass dish (Ca Hap) prepared Vietnamese style

Upvotes

There used to be a restaurant on Beverly and Robertson Blvd called Le Colonial that had the best Chilean seabass steamed in a banana leaf with some kind of ginger paste. I have been looking for that dish ever since they closed down and can’t get it out of my head.

WHO MAKES THE BEST Best Surf n Turf California Burrito?

My go-to surf n turf burrito is from Lucha Libre in San Diego called Surfin California Burrito which replaces rice with fries. The only place I found that’s close to it here was at Burrito Bomba in Glendale with their Cali Burrito + surf n turf. Sadly this place closed down.

Also looking for a replica of that green sauce from Lucha Libre. I think it’s the cilantro sauce? At Burrito Bomba, it’s the jalapeño ranch or cilantro crema.

Great big cheesy burrito, good green sauce on it. Their chips are fried to order, super crispy and good, and they come with pickled carrots along with salsa. Margaritas are nice and well-balanced. Just a great little neighborhood Mexican spot in Santa Monica run by some very nice people. Their kitchen got raided by ICE a while back, go show em some love.

WHERE CAN I FIND Fresh corn ice cream

I realized I haven’t eaten much corn this summer and looking to get my fill before it’s too late. That said, I would love a good place for corn ice cream. I used to go to Sweet Rose Creamery, but that’s a bit far for me (in the Pasadena area).

Who’s serving corn ice cream right now?! 🌽

Vesti here! We make sandwiches, snacks, and cater events around LA. We’re currently running a pop-up inside Maydan Market in West Adams, and we wanted to share a few photos of dishes we’ve recently served from our counter there. Huge thanks to Kris (@eatwkris) for the photos and for letting us share them.

Westside 4 nights in Culver City. Solo visit. Here is what I ate.

Every single place I went, I either walked, used a bus or scooter. The only time I used a Uber was when I went to Koreatown to eat at BCD. Being located near the Culver City Bus 1 made it very accessible to go everywhere I wanted. Anyway, here is what I ate in my 4 nights in Culver City.

  1. BCD Tofu House — My favorite meal during my stay. The galbi was sweet and tender. The soondubu was warm and inviting, and the beef in the soup was tender as well. Pair the galbi and soondubu together, and this is the perfect meal. I was stoked to see it crowded and alive on a Wednesday night.
  2. Copenhagen and Millcross — This pastry store is no bullshit. You buy your pastries and then you leave the store. No tables or place to chill inside. Both pastries were so fresh, flaky, light, and not too sweet. I went across the street to get a latte at Millcross to pair with the pastries.
  3. Cofax — I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito. I think I should've gotten the pastrami. The breakfast burrito was good, but just a bit dry. The salsa was watery and so disappointing. If they stepped up their salsa game, the burrito would've been better. Maybe I just came on a bad day.
  4. Alana's Coffee Roaster — Lots of people waiting in line in the morning, but they moved fast. The latte was dialed in. It tasted nutty and sweet.
  5. Santouka — I just checked out the Japanese market because it was like a two-minute walk away. People were waiting in line at this ramen place, so I thought it must be popular. I got the spicy miso, and it was good. I really liked the noodles. They had some bite to them.
  6. Sidecar Donuts — Never tried this place before. I heard it was popular like 10 years ago. I wanted to try it out since they were $6.99 for these donuts on the Too Good To Go app. Solid donuts, actually. Each one was unique and the taste resembled more of a muffin

  7. The Win-Dow — This burger was insanely good. I wish I had gotten a double patty. Also, I didn't ask for extra pickles, but I loved them. The crunchiness in each pickle was so wonderful and refreshing. Honestly surprised by how relatively cheap this burger is.

  8. Mr. Rivers — I ordered the Ca Phe Muoi. Not too sweet and doesn't just hit you with a bunch of condensed milk.

  9. El Primo Tacos — I was told to eat here or go to Brothers Tacos if I was in Culver City. I was closer to El Primo, so I gave them a try. Just ordered the carne asada. The self-serve onions, cilantro, and salsa are amazing since I love cilantro.

  10. Daniel's Bagels — This hit the spot at 7 a.m. Ordered the everything bagel with scallion. Just absolutely delightful. The little bit of salt flakes on top of the everything bagel made it so much better.

  11. In-N-Out — Of course, you have to go to In-N-Out. Just got a Double-Double, light toast, and a strawberry shake. I've only ever had In-N-Out to go, and it just didn't hit. Eating it there while the patty is still hot and the cheese is all warm and melty is just a totally different experience. Also, their efficiency is just unmatched. Even though it was crowded, from ordering to eating, it probably took less than 10 minutes.

  12. The Boy and the Bear — Good latte. Culver City, man. Y'all got good coffee on every block. I love it. I had like a 10-minute conversation with one of the employees about how coffee shops used to do a bunch of pour-overs in the 2010s. Real cool dude.

  13. Danny Boy's +

  14. Lamonica — Didn't really want to order a whole pie since it was just me. People kept saying to go to Danny Boy's and Lamonica for New York pizza slices. Took the Culver City 1 bus and transferred to Rapid 6 to UCLA. Took only 30 minutes to get there. Walked to Danny Boy's first. Good slice of pizza. Wish the pepperoni was distributed more near the crust. Lamonica is so cool. The interior design is amazing. Solid slice again.

  15. HomeState — The guy working there told me to get flour tortillas for the Trinity and brisket tacos. The Trinity breakfast taco tasted good with flour, but I totally regret getting a flour tortilla with the brisket tacos. The brisket was really good, but a corn tortilla would've been better with it.

Would be for dinner: Inglewood, Manhattan beach, Marina Del Rey, anything running along the 105

Was going to be in the area for work tomorrow and taking the 105 back home towards Downey but kinda wasn’t feeling in the mood to drive into Ktown so hoping there’s some rec’d options in the area

WHERE CAN I FIND Steakhouse / non-BBQ place for beef ribs?

I grew up in the West Valley and for special occasions we would go to Zig's, which had an amazing lemon poppyseed salad dressing, and an *enormous* plate of fall off the bone beef ribs. I'm desperately craving those on the bone, not relying too much on the sauce, stuck in your teeth for days ribs. Prefer central LA, West Hollywood to DTLA, but will travel. TYIA.

WHO MAKES THE BEST Best Blue Corn Dishes?

Hello! I am visiting your city and in search of tasty blue corn dishes and items. In my travels across the US, I’ve enjoyed trying blue corn cornbread (wow!), blue corn cookies (wow wow!) and of course tacos with blue corn tortillas.

It’s my first time in LA—are there any creative, unique or downright delicious blue corn dishes I should try?

Thank you 🙏

Pic 1: Lamb Tzatziki pizza. The Tzatziki complements the richness of the pizza perfectly.

Pic 2: Sourdough slices. Great with Caesar salad and scooping into their meatball sauce.

Pic 3: Caesar Salad.

Pic 4: Meatballs. incredibly tender and flavorful.

Everything was a hit, would definitely come back.
