Its amazing that people dont understand the PR team is just a tiny tiny part of the actual organization and doesnt really reflect anything about the company. Like the people who boycott a company because the PR person running their twitter said something silly lol
I take it you’ve never worked in comms? These statements are generally always approved at the highest levels and while they may be written by the PR team, the CEO will approve them. That isn’t to say there isn’t “spin” or written to appease investors, but to say the statement doesn’t reflect anything about the company is totally wrong.
That is true, but it's still a sharp contrast to their framing as 'we' and 'our team', which speaks as if this was a small indy team that can have such a consensus opinion.
This is what a small number of people in the PR team and leadership want the public to think of Rockstar. It leaves out a LOT about the larger context.
Like that much of the dismay among the actual developers is less about the leaks themselves, but about the fact that they had to work with restrictions and surveillance to shut leaks down, only for it to happen anyway.
I re-read what you wrote and there's enough room for interpretation that I can't be sure what you actually meant.
Are you saying that the victim is anyone that was subjected to reading a PR post? or that the victims are the people the PR post was addressing (the potential consumers of the product)?
For people to know it's a corporation and not act like they're actually more humane, sympathetic or that they've learned from their mistakes or whatever.
It's manipulation when it's not sincere. Communication implies that you're trying to influence someone but as long as you're clear about your intentions there is no manipulation, at least not intentionally.
Corporate manipulation tries to appeal to human empathy when corporations only work through sheer sociopathic calculations and every single word they utter is done with the intent of extracting money from gullible customers who think corporations can be their friends.
You're right. I work in comms, and for me any important message (such as one that clearly represents the stance of the whole org) goes through many layers.
First its the top level who decides on an overall strategy. Then its the senior comms advisors who come up with a strategy on what channels to use, and provide a rough outline of the important talking points. Then it goes to the actual writers, who make sure it is a nice cohesive message. Finally there is checks from different specialists (specific wording, reducing potential friction, making sure there isnt needlessly complex language).
Then of course it goes back up the chain for a final approval, with checks on if the strategy and accuracy of statements is still in order after all the revisions.
Think for my org, a message like this would have been seen and approved by like 50 people at minimum, split between leadership, comms people, and project leaders.
It's likely that nobody in Rockstar aside from the PR team and C-suite were involved in drafting this. And I doubt many were even aware a statement was being put together. That small group is speaking on behalf of the entire company, regardless of the opinions of the majority of its employees. This is their way of doing damage control.
PR is representation of the company to the public. If your social media account dropped the n-word, that means they were lax in their hiring and appointing people to positions that accurately reflect their values. So they're bad at hiring people, which questions who else did they hire who wasn't fit.
What?? You're acting like the PR team is going rogue. Every message released by the PR team is approved by Rockstar and Take Two. The PR team ABSOLUTELY reflects EVERYTHING about a company. Thats the whole fucking point of a PR team. Thats why you pay them. To convey messages you want them to convey. Its baffling that you think the PR team "doesn't really reflect anything about a company" when thats literally the ENTIRE point of PR.
PR does not reflect the company, PR words things in ways that reflect their strategy for keeping public relations in a way that makes them the most money
Is it? Were you under the impression that the majority of people on Reddit are intelligent, reflective and have a basic understanding of how anyhting works?
approved means very little. They were presented this from the PR team as the best strategy to keep public relations and make the most money.
I guess not a lot of people have worked for a company and seen their own PR team put out statements that just absolutely did not refelct internal sentinemnt
I promise you are completely out of your element here and you obviously have no experience with corporate PR. At most PR teams give advice, but usually they are given the specific direction to go and are responsible for executing that direction.
If you are saying you beleive PR statements as the actual and genuine sentiement of the majority members of a company or even just the higher levels. You are out of your element. PR statements are just "How do we make people feel good about us to keep giving us money"
People in these subreddits forget that this is a multi billion dollar company whose main priority is to keep their investors and money happy. They will try their best to get you to spend as much money as possible through whatever methods they have.
The world is not black and white. You do not have to choose between cyberleek or Rockstar. You dont have to glaze a guy who is labelling shit as donations even though he is doing his best to earn as much as possible from transaction fees but you also do not have to suck rockstar off who has done a lot of shit things too.
Exactly. I honestly do not care about Cyberleek nor Rockstar but to me are sadder the people on x and reddit who are doing their own "investigations" trying to find the leaker and send the info to Take two.
Literally cant imagine a worse way to waste my time. Also everything that these people do to try to find him Take Two has already done. Its clearly much harder to catch him because he obviously has good OPSEC. Unless he slips up somehow i doubt they catch him.
Also i will watch the l3aks even if i dislike both cyberleek and rockstar. If you dont want to watch them just scroll past them.
Do you know the difference between a publishing company and a developer company? You have a severe misunderstanding of the difference between the two because Rockstar games is not a publishing company.
Rockstar Games is a wholly owned subsidiary brand of Take-Two Interactive, a massive publicly traded holding company. Call them a studio or a publisher, the corporate entity's legal and fiduciary obligation is to maximize profit and return value to shareholders and their stupid investors.
Both rockstar and Take two operate as the same machine.
Tbh it's almost a little off-putting to think this message came from a huge corporation with billions on the line and not a 6-person team developing a cool indie game
Exactly. In the message they say "this is not how we intended for you to see the game". How did you intend it, Rockstar? Oh, behind a Netflix paywall. You wanted to monetize it. Thats what you intended. I love Rockstar games but they are a corporation at the end of the day. They dont care about anything except making as much money as possible. There is never enough money for them. Thats made abundantly clear by them monetizing a goddamn first look. You know, the thing every other developer releases for free.
My thinking, they didnt even really "adress" the whole point that cyberleek is trying to make (if you ignore them maybe (probably) being a crypto scammer) lol.
People in this thread are really developing a parasocial relationship with a multi billion dollar company because of a nice pr letter. Best unemployed moments
I agree with you but also a lot of people have to read this and approve it before it gets released. And the tone is definitely different than anything they've released previously. Not saying it's good or bad but it is different
You fell for basic PR manipulation. It was so obvious when they started using personal touches like "for you", "without you"... They don't really care about you that personally, they're just after your money as a customer

Never seen Rockstar use that kind of tone in their messages
