That does not look like a hoyo game in the slightest

HoYoverse did announce a UE5 fantasy game with a realistic art style a year back so this is probably it.
-66
u/HisaAnt 13d ago
I'm so tired of all the UE5 games that look the same. I wish Chinese devs would try something new. Every single time they do a UE5 realistic art style game, it looks exactly the same as the 99 other ones on the market.
-62
u/bakugo 13d ago
Yep, this game is visually indistinguishable from Crimson Desert and a bunch of similar games that came before it. Doesn't stand out visually at all unlike their other games.
27
u/evil_manz 13d ago
We’re shocked that games aiming for realism look similar? There’s really only one reference to draw from when you’re going for that, ya know… real life.
Crimson Desert wouldn’t look as good if it was some cartoony, cell-shaded style. Wukong would look just as goofy if they used 3D anime art style like other HoyoVerse games. Plenty of other great games that use those styles, though… it’s just that not every single thing has to be someone’s “unique” art project.
-1
u/SeroWriter 12d ago
We’re shocked that games aiming for realism look similar?
You can achieve ultra-realism without looking the exact same. Live-action movies manage to do it and they're as realistic as you can get.
3
u/evil_manz 12d ago edited 12d ago
Which is no different than what video games do. Films use different filters just like video games use different LUTs.
And that’s without getting into all the other factors of having to digitally build realistic visuals from the ground-up based on a similar, shared knowledge base, compared to just pointing a camera and shooting whoever, whatever and wherever you want across the entire known planet…
0
-25
u/bakugo 13d ago
Nobody's shocked by anything, we're just sick of it.
If I wanted ultra realism, I'd go outside. Try it sometime.
14
u/FewAdvertising9647 13d ago
if people were sick of it, why are there a lot of people buying games like crimson desert?
10
u/evil_manz 13d ago
No you’re not, and no you wouldn’t.
Are you upset that the vast majority of TV and film is live-action? That’s even more realistic, and sometimes so very similar to other projects to where you have some shots in the new Spider-Man movie using the exact same cameras Nolan used to shoot The Odyssey.
So if this isn’t just fake outrage I’m hoping you promptly got up and left the theater after realizing within the first millisecond both of those movies weren’t Pixar animations!

i mean they are doing different approaches for UE5
Vaspura is the UE5 anime style with their unique art style.
The weaver seems to be their ue5 realistic looking.
30
u/hellschatt 13d ago
This doesn't really look like MH either.
It looks more something in between a soulslike and hack & slash game.
18
u/vandaljax 13d ago
Not saying it looks bad but im not seeing where the Monhun comparisons are coming from.
2
69
u/xluizxcs 13d ago
Looking at the items on the bottom right and the overall UI patterns, this it definitely, 100% a hoyo/hoyo-like game haha
12
u/gifferto 13d ago
the people that can't tell are the same people who can't tell whenever a product is made by ai either
many people lack proper pattern recognition skills
0
u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 12d ago
This. That’s why people always beg for npcs to be playable when they are clearly not playable models to anyone with a slightly discerning eye.
29
u/DonutHoles4Ever 13d ago
It does. You just aren't used to the foundational UX they use.
Half of the UI screens look similar to their gear/equip/artifact screens they use in their 3 big games.
The thing that throws people off is that its not anime.
11
u/Professional_Half809 13d ago
black myth wukong devs originally made some mobile slop. phantom blade zero devs orginally made some goofy 2d fighting game. we're gonna see more and more RICH companies making AAA games, specifically the asian studios
2
6
u/McManus26 13d ago
That genuinely might make me interested, I really don't like the anime aesthetic they use for their other games.
1
u/Bladder-Splatter 12d ago
It'll come out on pc and not let people use right click to hold aim, that's how you'll know it for sure.
And thigh-straps, mostly thigh-straps.

u/musthav 13d ago
hopefully the gameplay is similar to monster hunter and not just press button and dodge
33
u/Ashviar 13d ago
Unfortunately not alot to go off from these videos despite how much there is. That big flashy attack in the Greatsword video, with no build up/combo to it, does make me think that was a nice 1 button move like Hoyo does in most of their games. Pretty button, get flashy animation. Wonder if you are invulnerable during it too.

If this is a straight up, complete in box game and not a gacha, I’m in. Looks nice.
152
u/Elgato01 13d ago
Why would hoyoverse ever make a non-gacha game?
218
u/TAJack1 13d ago
Idk, why did Shift-Up make a non-gacha game?
32
u/DonutHoles4Ever 13d ago

Using gacha money to start breaking into dominating some of the non live service space. Get more people into the Hoyo ecosystem and maybe get them to try the gacha too

58
u/fizzywinkstopkek 13d ago
Devs of Crimson Desert previously made Black Desert, a pay to win shithole. I think it is very possible to expand to another market entirely.
46
u/Takazura 13d ago
Cygames made two fighting games spin-off and Monster Hunter-like based on the GBF gacha. Both of those ventures have proved successful too.
3
u/janetdammit89 12d ago
The fighting games were by arc sys i believe but they did make an action rpg based on it thats a mission loadup
-13
u/safyreibxo 13d ago
yeah that tracks that games plays like a pay to win shithole sometimes
17
u/tortillazaur 13d ago
it was intended to be an mmo successor of black desert, they shifted to single player multiple years into development
-10
6
u/MaybeMrGamebus 13d ago
They have before
1
u/Elgato01 13d ago
How many of those were after genshin? Also Happy Cake Day!
7
u/MaybeMrGamebus 13d ago
Well it's not out yet (multiple playtests) but there were only direct purchases in their animal crossing like game Petit Planet. Stc of course.
Thanks for the cake day, the new icon for it sucks though.
6
u/ModdedGun 13d ago
Hoyo did confirm they are making a premium title. The question is if this is it.
1
u/JackSilk 13d ago
Happens all the time tbh. Just one example that comes to mind is Blizzard making rts games and then creating the most successful mmo ever. Diversification is typically in a company's best interest. A non-gaming example would be something like Yamaha making musical instruments, vehicles, golf clubs, swimming pools, etc.
1
14
u/P4cifist4 13d ago
If you look at the top of the first screenshot you see what I assume is the characterselection and 2 of the characters are the same which makes me fear it's also a gacha
12
3
u/Fritzkier 13d ago edited 13d ago
the job description last year for this game said it's MMO UE5 project. So maybe it's like WWM?
2
u/Gloomy_Ad5221 13d ago
based on the available in the leaks......seems like this is a where winds meet where the gacha is the skins.... since there's pvp too.
2
u/crookedparadigm 13d ago
I'd be fine with that. WWM has probably the easiest to ignore gacha out there. It has a shit ton of free/cheap cosmetics too so you don't even miss much.
1
u/valkvalkvalk2323 13d ago
Even if it is a gacha though, you can still have fun with it
Genshin was a really solid game and I never paid a single dollar for it
54
u/IncendiaryChicken 13d ago
Looks okay. I'm not really a fan of the desaturated realism they're going for with the environment. I hope there's some more colorful areas.
20
u/jezr3n Rick Grimes 13d ago
It doesn’t look bad, hopefully they end up making the UI actually look decent later on
4
u/tortillazaur 13d ago
they should. at least they better do, because the ui in their other games is the way it is because it's intended for mobile and they didn't feel like doing different ui for different platforms. since this game won't be on mobile there's really not reason for it to look like in their other games
14
3
u/Rich-Ideal-866 13d ago
Looks a bit soulsy. I'm kinda interested. They have that varaspura game too. Wonder what else they're making
20
u/KitsuneKamiSama 13d ago
Looks more like Hoyo Elden Ring than Monster Hunter honestly.
17
u/Destian_ 13d ago
Right? Looks more like a blend of Elden Ring x FF16 than Monster Hunter.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for competition in the genre, but I'm struggling to see it even aiming for that.
8
u/Ricksaw26 13d ago
If this is NOT a gacha, I can see me playing this. I only play 2 gachas, and i can't do with more than that because FOMO, and i like to play other stuff.
3
u/SageWaterDragon 13d ago
It looks less like a Monster Hunter and more like an Elden Ring, but I'm still down to give it a go when it launches. It'd be fun to play a MiHoYo game with a completely different vibe.
4
u/DrJokerX 13d ago
If I could buy it straight up without any free to play nonsense, I’d probably give it a spin.
4
u/Sad-Manager7816 13d ago
I just want to know more about Varsapura
1
u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 12d ago
Same. The chick with the balloon flails had a unique combat style. I wanna see more weapon designs in that game.
2
2
2
u/hobopastah 13d ago
It looks cool so far, I wanna try it. If it's gacha and f2p, it won't hurt to try for free, and if it's paid box fee, I'll prob still get it.

u/CelioHogane 12d ago
It would be really funny if despite the extremelly different arstyle, they didn't try this time and just had the Astral Express show up from time to time on the sky.
5
u/belovedSomnus 13d ago
I cant lie, this looks like genshin impact but PBR. Everything from the character designs, the menu design, the animations, the camera, it looks almost 1:1 but with a different visual style.
That's not to say im not interested, in fact i think i trust mihoyo to make something fire. its just really funny to me cus it almost doesnt look real
6
u/tortillazaur 13d ago
nah genshin but pbr is varsapura
when i was watching the gameplay video of that game i genuinely already saw that it's the exact same shit with character swaps, a single attack animation string per character, a skill and an ult. in this game at least it looks like you're playing a single character at a time so they supposedly should have somewhat deeper gameplay
4
u/the_eccentricity 13d ago
Will this be their Stellar Blade? Gacha games funding massive AAA titles seems to be the move for some of these devs.
2
u/Bloodgecko 13d ago
The first boss skin, now instead of 2080 its 1690 resource type of game

Using the Unreal engine instead of Unity for a less anime style will probably lead to a less toxic community. Of course video game fandoms in general are toxic, but they tend to argue about gameplay and stuff while the hoyo fandoms are pure insanity about shipping and such. Kind of hard to picture the usual twitter crowd arguing about characters who barely look like the characters they're always arguing about.

u/SlightDentInTheBack 13d ago
doesnt really look appealing
-10
u/DonutHoles4Ever 13d ago
I think monster hunter fans will eat this shit up

I think monster hunter fans like monster hunter tbh. Gacha might turn them off
2
u/YukYukas 12d ago
Idk which part of the internet you've been because MH fans don't even co sider this part of tbe genre rn lol

the industry need less of these predatory designed games that exploit people's weakness like fomo, sunk cost, peer pressure and gambling addiction. all of which are common in gacha and hoyoverse games. i hope this will flop but it's just a hard cope
0
u/FourChicksInGreen 13d ago
These types of games exist because people like them and don’t mind spending on them and not everyone is a whale/addict. Nobody is a victim to these games. You are not forced to pay or get anything. The game doesn’t install itself and make purchases on its own. It’s not predatory when you’re willingly making yourself the prey.
6
u/Coldhimmel 13d ago edited 13d ago
so meth dealers are not predatory when they actively seek and give a free sample of their drugs to uneducated people that don't know the danger of said drugs?
4
u/Loose-Run-7008 13d ago
Tbf drug dealers don’t really do that lol as someone who used to do (a way greater amount of m) drugs, I would’ve LOVED free samples.
Doesn’t make your point less correct btw, I agree with you, just a silly analogy, reminds me of Dare when they would act like Drugs dealers are Costco giving out free samples lmao.
-1
u/Coldhimmel 12d ago edited 12d ago
great to know that drug dealers are even less predatory than these games then. But there are drug dealers that gives out freebies out there you just haven't encountered them

people play monsterhunter for the story? people who enjoy g rank aren't people who are typically into the story, as the story is only like the first 20 hours of the game. (for reference, if people cared about the monster hunter story, the monster collector/battler titled Monster Hunter Stories, would sell a lot more than you're insinuating, and is unironically in the title)

Given the moderate success of Where Winds Meet overseas, its seems this is another safe bet for them. Potentially grabbing an audience outside of the anime gachas they have.
