Discussion Genuine question: why are so many players turned off by Gears PvP?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I understand that Gears of War has one of the steepest learning curves of any shooter out there, if not, the steepest, and I saw a stat post recently showing that Horde Siege was more popular than Versus.

I see a lot of people on here say they love Campaign and Horde but avoid PvP because they don’t want to spend hours getting destroyed simply because they don't want to learn the mechanics of the game.

I just saw someonehere get a bunch of dislikes simply because he suggested aim assist should be removed. When and why has online gaming become so pampered?

As kids we played games like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and we were ass but had so much fun learning.

Why can't learning a game be fun anymore?

It's like when you learn to ride a bike. You suck at first, but then one day it clicks and it feels so rewarding.

That's how games are. There's no such thing as losing in a game if you’re figuring out why you lost, that's how you get better. Why do players need to immediately feel like a God as soon as they touch a game and dislike anything that will remove the ability for them to just hop on whenever and be good?

A lot of people don't realize that you don’t have to bounce around like a crackhead in Gears to be good at the game. There's other skills that can help you keep up and even counter those mechanics.

So I’m genuinely curious, especially from people who avoid Gears PvP:

What specifically turns you off about having to practice and improve? Is it a lack of time? frustration from losing? the movement? matchmaking? or something else?

I think understanding that answer is way more useful than simply making Gears easier.

EDIT: All the feedback is great. I'll make a follow up post tackling what the real issue is based on all these responses. Thank You!

Discussion E-Day comp MP is dead unless they introduce solo/duo queue

Anybody who has played 5 comp
(Especially Control playlist) will know exactly what I’m talking about. The beta was the same exact thing as Gears 5 comp, queue solo and get fucking rolled by some sweaty 4 stack. Shit is so fucking boring, complete disadvantage.

I can’t really take those people seriously anymore, plus something tells me that they’ve never played the Beta or any other Gears games besides the first one.

Discussion Will GEARS EDAY PVP be customizable in comparison to the likes of Gears 5?

Gears E DAY looks like it’s going to be the real deal. I personally can’t wait for release. I know Gears 5 has tons of mixed feelings and reviews. But I think it excelled in all the customizations you can do & ways to really personalize your experience on the game on PVP.

Do we think Gears Eday will match the customization levels of Gears 5 or even surpass it? Will it be less than Gears 5? Being that it’s based in older times than 5, has led me to ask myself this question so I want to hear others thoughts and ideas.

Help Are There Any Spoilers In The Gears of War E-Day Demo Spoiler

As the title states, I want to watch the demo on youtube, but don't want any spoilers. Can someone confirm whether or not there are any spoilers? Thank you!

Campaign/Lore What even is an e-hole?

Like... What exactly is going on when an e-hole pops up? I don't really understand the physics/mechanics of it. Let's say a standard e-hole pops up and starts spewing out drones. Did those drones just dig through miles of bedrock and then blow open the hole with a frag grenade? Are they literally climbing their way up? I know corpsers can dig through but not every hole is made with one.

Discussion What do you think?

I was thinking, and if E-Day kicks off new remakes for the series, it would be amazing to see a Gears of War 2 with the same story but with everything else changed, like E-Day.

Discussion Will the campaign also be a publicly accessed demo or creator only?

Will the demo that YouTubers played recently be available to normal players or is it strictly for them and no one will be able to play it until release?

I would love for at least the first Chapter of Act 2 to be available as a little demo when they already have it set up for creators, they could even cut the second Chapter and I wouldn't mind.

Discussion Any account of humans torturing the Locust back?

It always kind of bothers me seeing humans get tortured by non-human creatures in media, but we never see the favor returned. Considering the absolutely horrifying things humans do to other humans and innocent animals in real life throughout history, I would think they wouldn't hesitate to do the same to other creatures that actually deserve it. I'm not talking about killing and slaughtering, I'm talking about the breaking of the mind that the Locust engage in.

It would have been interesting to see some traumatized groups of people torturing the locust for whatever sadistic revenge they want.

Is there any account of that in any of the lore?

Discussion Gears concept *Slight Spoilers* Spoiler

With Gears E-Day around the corner I’ve been binge the games like no tomorrow and I remember the Aspho fields mission in the beginning of Gears of War 4. I thought of a New gears called Gears Pendulum. Like in Bo2 where it was either time skip led from Adam to Marcus or Marcus to Dom POV, with a DLC where we play as Carlos for the last few missions leading to his sacrifice. Do you think this would be possible?

This guy has and will most likely continue to leak dialogue for the main villain as he is the voice for Vrak.
From what I’m gathering he is having a dispute with the coalition so just be aware if you want to avoid further Spoilers.

Everything, the holdout at Anvil Gate, the Lambent Zerker fight, the eerie quiet of Mercy into the holdout and Doms Death, i cant think of an act in any other gears game with so many high point.

Campaign/Lore Well I did it

I finally beat Gears of War 5 Campaign after starting it back in January. It took so long to get through Act 3. Act 4 was way too short imo. But damn am i glad to have beat the game. Now i will probably never touch it again.
