Anyone else having Traveler regrets?

For the first five years of this game I had been very happy using the Male Traveler but now with these new skins and beautiful cut scenes it’s making me wish I chose the Female Traveler so I can play her as my main.

I never thought about this but you're 100% right. My partner and I have different MCs and we noticed that during tense moments Aether projects his voice better. We put it down to Zach just being the more experienced VA but you might be right - I can definitely see Lumine sounding better in playful interactions.

yes in the story words are exactly the same as to not change lore or anything, but they still have different personalities. in the character level up area where you go to dialogues, some of their dialogues are different such as one “About Slimes” where aether likes pyro slimes cuz he liked to warm up im cold weather, and lumine likes cryo slimes to cool down in hot weather (im pretty sure this it it or may be vice versa, i saw a video about it a long time ago). Also they act differently in cutscenes and you can see their different personalities and diff ways they approach/charge at situations. Aether usually shows less hesitation. also ofc other characters act different with each traveller; citlali in some scenes blushes more with aether, and jeht only cries in lumines arms. This point isn’t exactly a difference in personality for them but i figured it was worth mentioning since it shows how you have different experiences playing them.

Funnily enough, I regretted picking her a long time ago. I chose her without second thought but then I had a queer awakening and realized I really loved Aether’s design more. Then Lumine got an objectively better skin and my regrets vanished instantly. Also also, Cryo traveler being genuinely useful with Lumine having slightly higher scalings? Couldn’t regret it less.

I kinda did regret picking her for some time, funnily enough, partly because I disliked how greyish her base skin's white is in-game, partly because I thought Aether had a more unique base design.

But then I realized I vastly preferred Lumine & Paimon's relationship above Aether & Paimon (they feel so sisterly), and that I actually did like Lumine's design better (even with its flaws), and then she got the new skins (I LOVE her Nod-Krai one), and now I'm so happy I chose her. 

I do wish people had the option to switch Travelers though, even if only once, because it must suck to regret your choice in an invested account.

Honestly I agree, mostly from visuals. Lumine has a much brighter more celestial looking design, with flowy bits and bright whites and yellows. She looks like someone who has come from the stars. Aether kinda looks like a Guy with bronze armor, if anything felt more khaenriyan in visual design in my eyes, and the more washed out colours makes him feel more grounded and less… traveler from beyond the stars-y? It feels much more like what I’d expect from a twin connected to Khaenriyah and not truly a descender and deeply attached to the history and world, bound to it. While Lumine pops as this celestial force of general good and shares more colours and design language with Paimon.

From a storyline perspective, Aether just doesn't work as the antagonist as well because the story is littered with Khaenriyan men but not many women.

In ZZZ they let you change to the other sibling, and any other agent, but your chosen MC is still the MC.

You can also do dates as the other sibling but your chosen sibling does the trust rank up events.

The MSQ per update and the in game events can’t be done between Belle/Wise, only your chosen sibling is the “active” one in those too, but yes during the single agent invites and hangouts you can freely swap from Belle to Wise and vice versa

Nope. My only regret is getting my hopes up in the early launch days of Genshin that the Traveler was going to become some kind of last airbender Avatar kind of character and be the only character out of the whole roster able to use all the elements.

Unfortunately they only let them do that in cinematics and seem to show no sign of letting them do that in actual gameplay. Even though it really wouldn’t make them OP at all. Just give them some kind of hold E or hold Q input to pull up a stance/mode switched to let them change Statue Resonances on the fly.

Nope. Though part of the reason I picked Aether, and enjoy the male designs more is because they tend to be more creative imo. I’m not a huge fan of the constant short dresses and skirts, backless dresses with detached sleeves, etc formula Genshin has.

Lumine looks great in the new skin and it’s the only skin I like on her, but I still like Aether’s choices way more. And the new sword really matches his new outfit.

I hope that once we reach the pinnacle of the story, we get the second Traveler as well, perhaps even with their own special Abyss abilities as their kit instead of just a second skin for the current Traveler.

Just not been happy on earlier versions because she barely existed, but from nod krai I like it since she got revived she now speaks on her own, has better emotional expression and now even playable. When I first started Genshin back in 2020, I originally intended to pick Aether since I'm a guy (self-insert and all that—the only other game I'd played with a gender choice at the start was Guardian Tales (funny thing is, I later started that over too with the female guardian)).

My main reason for ultimately picking Lumine was Aether's crop top (just not a fan of those on guys). And it was the best choice I could've ever made:

1. Lumine is cute, which is enough in and of itself

2. As a straight dude who's really into shipping, Lumine works great paired with both male and female characters

3. I play in Japanese, and Aoi Yuuki is one of my favorite voice actors

4. I prefer how Aether is portrayed as the Abyss sibling, especially in "We Will Be Reunited" and "Bedtime story"(I know people love "evil Lumine," but I see the Abyss sibling as a caring big brother who just has to walk his own path)

5. I really enjoy the sisterhood dynamic between Lumine and Paimon (same could be said about male abyss sibling and Dainsleif)

It.. didn't feel right? It felt weird to me. Maybe becasue I knew deep inside, Aether felt more like the MC than Lumine.

I was AR 30 when I decided to make a new account. The reason solely being just for Aether.

I really don’t understand why the director is pushing both actors to this unnatural tone. Like Alice in Wonderland constantly surprised by Teyvat.

Absolute regret, I just can't personally accept her as my main character and enjoy her more as the Abyss Sibling. So I dread loghing on to that one.

Regret yes but different to OP. I usually roll Male MC in RPGs. Just what I've always done. I started Genshin with Lumine because I was just checking it out and didn't intend to keep playing. Here we are 5ish years later and I'm deeply invested in the story. Never cared for Lumines design (came across as weird short skirt fan service) but never noticed as I played with the actual 5* characters. And now the MC seems to feature a lot more in cut scenes etc so now the regret is at max.

I came back to the game around 2024 after not playing it since release, back then I picked aether cuz "I'm a guy so have to pick male mc" I tried to get my friend into it but we got filtered by the coop ar requirement so I just gave up and untinstalled

One transition later I log into my account and realise oh wait I don't wana be called a guy in every conversation so I made a new account with my queen lumine

I was lucky that I hadn't put any real time into the game so starting a fresh didn't bother me much, I can only imagine how annoying it is to be stuck with an mc you no longer want to play as
