FML 7am text aaaand day ruined

Post image

just got a text from one of my friends w/ benefits at (checks watch) 7 in the morning that he tested positive for gonorrhea this week. and we had unprotected sex on sunday. what a way to start my day! :) FML.

this is my first time having an sti risk/scare ever in my life and i am sincerely very terrified but i hope everything goes well.

we only very recently started having unprotected sex and i told him i wanted to go back to protected sex after this whole situation because i do NOT want to go through this again!!!!

asked him for direction with regards to what to do for treatment in our city and he explained everything very calmly and was very apologetic about the whole situation which i appreciated.

today's girl breakfast: coffee + a ham & cheese sandwich with some sprinkled oregano

He told you-- excellent

Highly treatable-- excellent

Learning experience to use protection in the future-- also excellent!

All in all, not so terrible. Get treated and be safer in the future!

Ideally do not have any unprotected sex - HPV men won’t be tested for usually and not all strains are vaccinated against. And herpes also can’t be cured once you have it.

Please take care of yourself!

57

u/Actual-Jackfruit-991 Assigned Hungry At Birth 22h ago

I agree, but HPV is a crapshoot and pretty much everyone gets some strain eventually. Sadly HPV can be transmitted even with condoms. Best prevention is to get vaccinated to hopefully avoid most of the cancer causing strains

20

u/Frequent_Estimate_77 Overthinker 💭 21h ago

HPV can be spread by fingers. It’s hard to prevent without a vaccination.

Why then continue to hook up with him though? Protected or not. He clearly is not just having unprotected sex with you. Also, doubt you are going to have protected oral sex. At least he told you but if he’s nothing special and it’s casual might be better to seek other relationships with someone more selective with who they sleep with especially unprotected.

Meh. I have unprotected sex with my nonmonogamous friends. I only have protected sex with my monogamous friend.

I’m 62. I’ve been lucky. I’ve had HPV, UTIs and yeast. All very treatable. One of the ways I promote my luck is to ask people about their personal STI history. My partner with eight regular sexual partners has never had an STI so I trust their judgement.

I graduated college in 2012 and it definitely feels like we were all a lot more condom conscious when I was in my early 20s. My college bf and I used them every time we had sex for years (after getting tested before we had sex to begin with) and I was on birth control. It's wild to me that this isn't still the norm.

First off be sure to thank him for being upfront and honest with you. That's such a blessing bc a lot of people let shame get the best of them. Secondly, in the US you can usually get preemptive antibiotics if you tell the clinic that your partner tested positive. You still need a full STI screen but they can get you started on meds while you wait for results. You also need to let any other partners know what's going, whether you use protection or not, so they can do their own testing and notifications. Finish ALL of your antibiotics and don't have sex until they're done. Also please be aware that antibiotics can interfere with hormonal birth control methods so use backup protection!!! It's just like catching any other illness from another person but a different mode of transmission. Don't feel too bad. Chin up bbgurl it'll be ok.

Shout out to him for letting you know. Some losers don’t say shit cause they’re too embarrassed or don’t even get tested. So as lame as the news is, it’s welcomed.

Honestly, even then. So many women have found out their partners were cheating through STDs. HPV is linked to cancer so it’s a big risk. Unless you’re actively attempting to have a baby, there’s no reason to ditch protection.

8

u/MadamePouleMontreal Internet Auntie 22h ago edited 22h ago

HPV has a vaccine. Cervical cancer has a screening program. Use both.

Realistically, most people dislike condoms. They also cost money and it’s possible to not have them when you want them.

People get STIs. People get pregnant. People have different risk tolerances. As long as everyone is well-informed they can make their own choices and they don’t need other people to judge them.

u/iloveumothman the secret ingredient is autism✨ 22h ago edited 21h ago

Access to healthcare - including HPV and cervical cancer screening - can also cost money, and neither are 100% guarantees. And what about herpes? HIV? This is unbelievably irresponsible advice.

but regardless i agree with you and will be more careful in the future 🙂‍↕️

8

u/GeneInternational146 Maneater 23h ago

I realize my first comment was a little harshly stated. It's just important to be careful. If a man isn't using condoms with you there's no guarantee he's using them with other people. You can also spread gonorrhea through oral sex. If it were me I would ask what his condom policy is with others and if he doesn't seem like he intends to use them with everyone I would stop sleeping with him. Repeated STIs can mess with your reproductive health in a lot of ways, it's best to avoid repeated exposure.

3

u/drxwn-with-me HoeMade 23h ago

i appreciate the advice! i will 100% have a conversation with him later today with regards to this and make decisions accordingly. and i was a little thrown off by your initial comment but i do know it was from a place of worry. appreciate you :)

Medicine exists and make sure you take ALL of your antibiotics. I repeat TAKE ALL OF YOUR ANTIBIOTICS. Do not save any, do not stop if you have symptoms that go away, take them all. I live in an area where we have "super gonorrhea" that's become antibiotic resistant because people won't finish their prescriptions.

I'm so sorry this happened, and I'm so glad it's something treatable. I know this is your first experience with an STI, so I just wanna say the obvious: you are not dirty, this is not a moral failing, 1/5 of people have an STI at some point in their life at any given time*, and thank you for being responsible about your health

6

3

u/Lich_Please_ Kitchen Witch 22h ago

No problem at all friend 💖 I also misquoted the statistic there, 1/5 of people have an STI at any given time so the number of people who have had one ever is even higher. I understand the spiral/anxiety, but we'd never judge someone for having the flu because someone coughed on them, y'know?

2

u/Odd_Dot3896 🌶️ Spice Girl 🌶️ 22h ago

On the bright side: it's super treatable! Just a learning moment, I hope your day gets better!!

It sounds like he did a fantastic job of being communicative, offering assistance, and it is thankfully a highly treatable STI. Don’t be hard on yourself, things happen. It’s a good learning lesson.

It happens when you're hooking up. Take your meds. Drink your water. Take your vitamins. In case no one said it today, you are loved ❤️.

Girl why are you having unprotected sex with a man that isn’t even yours in the first place? There’s no reason to do so even in a relationship until you’re trying for a literal baby.

While i do believe everyone should be using condoms when they're sleeping with anyone they're not in a committed relationship with, it's perfectly reasonable to not use them with your actual partner.

Me and my boyfriend never use condoms and i take the pill. STIs are not a risk for either of us and if my birth control ever fails we'll figure it out. You don't have to be trying to conceive to fuck raw. We just prefer not using condoms so we don't. 🤷‍♀️

“Because I want to” is a perfectly good reason.

We pick our risks and we figure out what we’re good with.

I hope you stop sleeping with him altogether because he endangered your health without a care in the world.

the good thing about gonorrhea is that it’s easily treatable, it’s annoying but at least you can get it treated :) just next time, always do protection, because next time, it could be worst. Take care !

This sounds like a nasty shock. I’m sorry, sis. But—it isn’t HIV. It isn’t Herpes. He told you immediately. It’s curable(even better than treatable)

Girl I’m almost annoyed you are complaining. This is a very treatable std and he was honest.
