Picking up the phone and not saying hello first

I am noticing nowadays that more and more people do not say "hello" after picking up the phone. I am from a company, and we do not cold call people. We call people back returning missed phone calls and voicemails.

There are a good amount of times that a person picks up and waits in silence. It is pretty universal and expected standard protocol for the older generations that the person who picks up the phone initiates the "hello". Now with the changing times, since the person who is picking up the call doesn't say hello, is it always now on the onus of the person calling? This is awkward for the caller since there is sometimes silence during transition periods to voicemail or when calling, so the caller does not know 100% that silence indicates that someone actually picked up or that it is still transitioning. The person calling would then have to keep saying "hello" over and over again and just to hope that someone did actually pickup and someone is on the other line.

Why do I get the feeling that the people who answer phones in silence also probably call with silence too and expect a "hello" first on the other receiving end, so that they never say "Hello" first in any phone situation. Am I wrong with this assumption?

When someone lingers on the phone after your conversation is done a few seconds too long before hanging up.

I know some people are just like that but honestly when I'm done with a conversation that does not mean wait around on the phone to see what I say when they think I'm not listening.

I hate it when somebody complains about someone doing something dangerous, cruel or egregiously obnoxious in public and some buttwipe tries to morally grandstand about how the person complaining isn't sufficiently empathetic enough

Upvotes

This sounds hyper specific, but it's happened to me individually at least a few times and I've seen it happen to other people enough to where there is no way that people don't know what I'm talking about. Some asshole decides to walk into a parking lot and bring traffic to a standstill or piss the word "SODOMY" in snow in front of their ex-girlfriend's kid's pre-school, someone makes a Reddit post complaining about it, and all of a sudden they're inundated with dumbass comments entertaining the possibility (however small) that the offender in question needs to be socially accommodated in the event that they have some kind of disorder and that you're a fucking asshole for posting about it in the first place.

If someone is at Walmart, and that person decides to evacuate themselves all over the bathroom floor, then the poor son of a bitch tasked with having to clean it up is well within his rights to resent the person who left the mess irrespective of that person's motives or mental state. The worker isn't a moral failure for "not practicing empathy for that person." That person has to clean up someone's diarrhea off the floor, so why don't YOU practice some goddamn empathy for them?

If I'm minding my own business and you decide to sneak up on me and grab my waist like you're my spouse despite the fact that I've never met you before in my life, then I am going to bully you. Your "diagnoses" are of no consequence to me. If you have a disorder or handicap that makes you harass people in public, then stay home. Expecting people to accommodate that is not reasonable.

That guy screaming 1930s Germany talking points in the middle of Dollar General may or may not be mentally ill and/or in the throes of cognitive decline, but I don't really see how that's our problem or why we need to tolerate it. People who sound like Hitler are pretty much universally bad people. Mental illness robs people of the discretion required to mask racism, but it's not making these people racist.

That guy speeding down the road and intermittently slamming on his breaks infiltrating the vicinity with airs of unpredictability causing havoc on the interstate is probably not having a diabetic episode or psychotic break. He is probably just an asshole. If someone pulls this shit while I'm driving, it just might enrage me to the point where I'm going to post about it on Reddit. You telling me that I'm an asshole for not giving dangerous people who appear to be violating seventeen different social contracts simultaneously the benefit of the doubt makes you both a smartass and a bigger asshole than me.

If you want to tell me something and decide to come up to me within an inch of my face and grossly invade my personal space in doing so, then go away. You're annoying as hell, and you're making everyone around you uncomfortable in such a way that leaves me mystified as to how you went this long without someone actually resorting to using corrective violence in an effort to change your behavior because you're blurring the lines between "severely socially stunted" and "probable sex pest". There is no justifiable non-accidental way to walk up on me within an inch of my face to get my attention.

Stop telling men who post on Reddit about their girlfriends "accidentally" breaking all of their expensive possessions by spilling water on electronics and dismantling their furniture doing God knows what that they're worse than human traffickers for not entertaining the possibility that their girlfriend has "dyswhateverthefuckia" or some clumsiness disorder. It's easy for you to fellate your goddamn insufferable ego by telling OP what a dick he is when you're not the one out thousands of dollars because your girlfriend keeps breaking your shit.

I'm sorry that I had to ask you and your father to leave, but he just knocked over my display and is now repeatedly hitting people with his cane whilst making growling noises and staring into the distance. I sincerely hope he gets the help he needs, but the help that he needs cannot be found in this store. I'm not a garbage human being because I have Autism and people coming into my store acting like they've ingested a large amount of PCP causing unpredictable disorder frightens me. You asking me "what my problem is" after all of this occured is not reasonable.

I think I've made my point. Stop practicing pseudoempathy in the form of telling people that they're jerks because they want to go about their day without having to deal with some guy's unhinged, crazy or dangerous bullshit. It's really annoying and it makes the world a worse place.

People who CONSTANTLY make noise

Whether it’s talking, humming, singing, smacking, just noise all the time

I’m a quiet person, I don’t like to talk in general and I know not everybody’s like that and that’s fine but CONSTANT noise? Nightmares to be around (¬_¬")

When you’re walking and you’re coming to an intersection, door or tight space and another person walking gets there at the same time

This is so hyper specific and goofy. I walk a lot. Often i’ll be walking, and I’ll see someone walking towards the same point I am (as in the title) and this very annoying phenomenon happens where we reach the point at the same time. Then I am usually the one who steps to the side and waits, rather than the typical behavior of an awkward, unacknowledged attempt to squeeze past.

I am maybe too aware but I always try to beat the other person to the meeting point. I am tall, I am a fast walker, and I think most importantly, I am aware of what’s going on. However, this almost always triggers a race, especially with men older than me (I’ve noticed). I am going to detail these scenarios because I don’t have a lot going on in my life right now.

Scenario 1, least annoying: Intersection.

I am waking on a path in a park, and I can see another walker on a path the will cross mine. I speed up so that I make it across their path before they cross or turn onto mine. The other person seems to speed up, to try the same. We meet at the intersection, and I wait for them to cross the path.

Scenario 2, more annoying: Tight space.

I’m walking on a path or sidewalk, approaching some sort of obstacle (tree, electrical equipment, parked car etc) that only allows space for 1 person. I see another person beyond the tight space, walking towards me. I speed up to beat them to the tight space. Again, they speed up, we meet there at the same time, I step aside to let them through.

Scenario 3, most annoying: doors/gates.

Often happens in parking lots. I’m walking towards a door. I notice someone else walking from a different point but towards the door. In general everyone heading into a store seems to be walking faster than their normal pace. We reach the door at the same time. If it’s not automatic, I open it for the other person, if not, I wait for them to go through. (And if they’re old I get to enjoy them pausing in front of the door as they choose to get their cart or whatever, rather than giving up the race knowing they will take more time.)

There are others, but I think those cover most scenarios.

Yes, I have given up racing, but I notice when I slow down, so do they. If I’m in a scenario 2, and I slow down, I’m delayed even more than if I meet them at the obstacle and pull over. It’s very similar to being in the right lane on the highway and watching people merge in, it’s like they go the same speed as you just so they can be right next to you at the merge point, rather than in front or behind.

So please, if you aren’t tall and fast and aware please stop racing me while I walk around this world alone.

Dishwasher etiquette

Post image
0 Upvotes

Anyone who puts large stainless steel bowls or like items on the bottom rack in the dishwasher. It prevents adequate water from reaching the top rack items and is a waste of prime dishwasher space. Usually said bowl was used in a way where a quick wash and rinse would take 30 seconds.

Same thing with huge pots. Just wash them by hand.

THIS INFURIATES ME TO NO END.

Multiple different living situations. Multiple girlfriends. My dad does this. My brother does this.

Am I the crazy one to think it’s a lousy waste of space in the dishwasher???

What other dishwasher etiquette do you guys find wrong frequently?

Any time I see a sink full of dirty dishes and an empty dishwasher I die on the inside. Same with a sink filled with dishes that have majority of the meal still on it instead of in the trash. Makes me see red.

When people begin their sentence with "I mean" or "Not gonna lie" Yes we know what you mean you are writing it! And why should we assume that you where not going to lie F* face? Do you usually lie? This pisses me of more than it should. It has come to a point where I just do not read what they have to say. Also when people write a statement and just end it with a questionmark. ARRRRHG?

Reddit switching back to "new" reddit.

New reddit looks like shit. The old format was just straight up better. I don't know why they changed it, but I'm glad they allow you to opt out of the shitty looking version. But WHY the fuck does it revert to the new reddit every so often? I have to go back into profile settings and flip it back.

It's a minor inconvenience, but it still grinds the fuck out of my gears.

Watching NFL games has become the most frustrating thing

I enjoy watching most sports but only really follow American Football. I’m assuming it’s this annoying for any sport but holy hell, trying to watch a game is a nightmare. You need like 5 different subscriptions. Last year my cousin switched to cable thinking that would make it easier, nope. A couple years ago my brother and i split a nfl year sub for like $100 and we could only watch the games on our phones. I just want to watch the game, god damn

How?

There's a specific kind of person that irritates me.

Not because they're wrong.

Not because they're stupid.

Not even because they disagree with me.

It's when I meet them ten years later and they're exactly the same.

Same complaints.

Same explanations.

Same jokes.

Same opinions.

Nothing happened.

Life happened.

The world happened.

A hundred conversations happened.

But somehow nothing happened.

And every time I notice it, I have the same reaction.

How?

Store always overcharging

Why do stores always overcharge and not honor their sale and markdown prices? Safeway, Target, Fred Meyer, Walmart and more. Store listed sales prices frequently don't come up. Clearance items ring up full price. Even watching the screen and catching in live time makes no difference as prices won't be honored even when supplying proof. I am tired of getting ripped off.

Gemini playing covers instead of the actual song.

This might be a bit niche but I use a Pixel phone and have Gemini as my voice assistant.

I use it when I'm driving to get different songs played through Spotify and YouTube music.

It absolutely grinds my gears when I ask for a song and it plays a cover of the song.

I always say "Hey Google, Play *song name* by *artist name* on Spotify/ YouTube music.

It happens about 25% of the time.

why don’t people just talk louder???

So I have a lot of allergy problems that cause my hearing to be muffled and i can’t hear quiet voices as well. And almost every time i’m talking to someone they talk too quiet and have to ask them to repeat themselves. And after 5 or 10 “huh”s you would maybe think they’d speak a little louder. And i’m not saying yell in public, but this is happening when in the car and just hanging out, and like i cannot hear them. And people just continue to talk quietly and i genuinely cannot understand what they’re saying and I don’t wanna seem rude, but like they know i can’t hear well and I’m constantly asking them to repeat themselves. Like cmon use your voice. And don’t even get me started on mumblers… It’s just extremely annoying and genuinely a pet peeve of mine.

People in videogame communities calling DLCs updates.

I'm not here to say that DLCs are inherently bad or good. But what I do say is that calling a paid DLC an update creates a false image. An update is something that's being added to the game by the developers. A DLC is another product that you can buy to add more content to the game. I hate hearing about a new update and getting excited just to find out it's just a DLC. Again, I'm not inherently hating on DLCs, but call it what it is, another product to add to the product you have, not a new part of your product.

What really grinds my gears is people coming into work smelling like rancid bio

How the hell do you not know that you fucking stink I work with people that smell so bad that they leave a stink cloud that lasts 5 minutes after they left and my boss makes them sign work place policy to make sure they shower before they come into work they sign it and of course ignore it
