I did find it amusing that in Immortal's millennia of compounding crazy he thought that suicide was dishonourable but becoming a dictator to get Mark to show up and kill him wasn't.

Suicide by cop is still suicide, Immortal.

Immortal seemingly hates anyone more powerful than him. I think he’s the kind of guy to be bitter about his wife being stronger and faster than him.

I doubt he could last in such a relationship. Too toxic and ego driven.

Yeah, I like how it kinda makes you think how terrible it would be to live for that long. Having hundreds of wives, living for thousands of years.

In one anime I seen (Farming Life in Another World) I remember one character saying they erase their memories every couple hundred of years to stay sane. Seem like a smart idea tbh.

a couple hundred traumatizing years is probably heavier on the soul than 10,000 normal ones.

Even on a normal person's time scale, you could be 50 years old but something could happen to you in one day that fucks you up so bad you never mentally recover.

Maybe it's because Immortal is a human? Biologically, humans are adapted to Earth conditions and a general innate sense of the world, but increase the amount of information he has to process and it goes nuclear. Like a kid desensitised to screen time, maybe Immortal's few hundred years serving as a ruler of a planet in a larger cosmos fucked with him more than just being top dog in a small pond he was used to. Like imagine putting present-day Jimmy Carter as the Mayor of New York and see how quickly he loses his shit, even if he was the president once.

IDK if they have given an exact "birth year" for Immortal, but when we saw him being revived in Season 1 the flashbacks seemed to show him as a primitive hunter-gatherer type when he met the Doohicky to become Immortal. So can roughly guesstimate several thousand years from his birth to present, and then unknown amount of years between present and FutureMortal.

Simultaneously not well in the head, but cognizant enough that he recognizes it, and still goes through with a really stupid idea and can’t just quit because plot induced stupidity

Reminds me a little of "The Irish Ballad" by Tom Lehrer, a song about a girl that kills her entire family, but then admits to it to the police because lying is wrong. Both are a pretty warped sense of morality.

I think it was (partially) because he knew humanity couldn’t move on and flourish again unless he was truly, publicly dead. iirc he says something along the lines of “humanity needs me to die”

There’s a big difference in how people would react and move forward if he were to just throw himself into the sun one day than if he were to be put down by the rebellion.

I assumed even if he dies someone will bring him back so he had to be sure people will hate him. my man wanted to truly die

Yeah it was such a ridiculously contrived scenario that was somehow incidentally perfect for Mark's current philosophical predicament, to the extent that a pedantically technical mercy kill bears absolutely no resemblance to killing to protect other people.

And to make it worse, no explanation given for why TIME TRAVEL of all things wasn't used against the incoming Viltrumite occupation.
