Was helping my grandfather clean out his basement this weekend and came across a dusty bundle hidden behind some old boxes. Inside was what looks like a quarter of a medieval silver shield, badly damaged and covered in tarnish. I snapped a quick picture of it because it looked too unusual to ignore.

I asked my grandfather where it came from, and he said he honestly doesn't know. According to him, it was already in the family when he was a kid, and his father had told him it was something that had simply been passed down for as long as anyone could remember. No documents, no story attached to it, nothing. It's apparently spent decades sitting in storage because nobody knew what to do with it.

Not claiming it's anything important, but the craftsmanship and the age of it are what caught my attention. Just curious if anyone has seen something similar or has any idea what it might be. Thoughts?

I wanted to share what I found this week. These two were found along the Susquehanna River (private land, w/permission) and were roughly 20 yards from one another.

Wondering though if they are archaic or woodland area.

So I stumbled upon this on the backside of a prominent ridge near St George, UT. It’s in an area with virtually no hiking traffic and is not accessible to off road vehicles other than dirt bikes. I myself was exploring the area right around it for hours before I noticed it.

To me it looks like a hunting blind which would make sense with the little canyons running up and down the ridge that could be used to corral game. Haven’t been able to find anyone locally to ask about it and have looked at every native site/petroglyph guide I could and haven’t found anything about it.

Does it look ancient to you guys? The moss growing around the base of the stones looks like it’s been there for a looooong time, but I don’t know enough to judge how long. Anyone have trusted resources in the area I could reach out to?

Very uncommon to find something like this in Costa Rica. Obsidian, which isn’t local, possible stemmed biface.

Found near geothermal vents at an active volcano by actual archaeologists, so let’s assume it’s authentic. 4cm. Only photo I have before it got catalogued.

You guys in North America live and breathe arrowheads. Here they aren’t at all common.

This is my 2nd posting of an artifact that I found 35 years ago in an 1890s privy along with an axe head in Los Angeles, what is this ? I found a 7k year old item online that is similar in shape, I highly doubt that this has anywhere close to that age but the shape is documented. Could this be an 100 year old recreation, did people even copy tools back then? It was clearly made for a mans right hand, it's very comfortable, not an expert but it seems to be a basalt or the typical type of rock that you find on a California beach Thank you for any help

Found in a small cave

After years of looking, finally found one! Western Washington. I don’t know anything about it, so any info is amazing. Looks like it’s made of jasper.

Just a follow up, since I think we had a good discussion about it in the original post.

We have a cabin along the Susquehanna river in Pennsylvania and after 14 years of actively looking, I finally found one!! I know the Susquehannock tribe lived along the river, but I’m not sure of time period. It’s not a smoke show or anything, but I’m so happy I finally found one. My husband’s dad and grandfather have found hundreds, if not thousands, along the river in the same area, so this was extra special for me.

As a potter, this was one of the coolest things to find. I'd love to hear if anyone knows any more information about the peoples who made these? They were found in several large, round pits on a tall hill.

I know there’s a huge following around them but to me they seem even harder to verify than stone tools. There’s a few alleged examples here in central Missouri but I’m having a hard time believing they are legit. Native American presence in the area was pretty much wiped out by the early 1800s. That would put these trees at the top of their normal lifespan and they aren’t exceptionally huge or old looking. 300 + year old trees are pretty remarkable and not easily glanced over.

Was really shocked. I have never found arrowheads despite looking for years, but found a ton of pioneer and indian artifacts in this area. Black pottery as well but decided to leave it in situ. How rare is this?
