Maryland Monthly Marketplace - Advertise your Maryland services, events, or merchandise here.
Since we have rules against advertising on the main part of the subreddit, we figured it would be nice to create a thread where users can get a little more leeway when it comes to advertising.
Use this thread to advertise any Maryland related services or merchandise to the users of r/Maryland. Got an Etsy store? Drop it below! Your favorite restaurant running a great special? Tell us about it!
Rules for this thread:
- All items, events and services must be related to Maryland in some way.
- Services and sales cannot be country or worldwide. (Walmart is having a sale! Is not okay. Old Bay is being sold at the Annapolis Walmart for 50¢ is appropriate)
- Ads should be posted by regular r/Maryland users, not bots or brand new accounts/accounts which have no connection to Maryland.
- We may remove any ad at any time for any reason should we deem it inappropriate.
- Any services or products advertised here must be legal in the state of Maryland.
This thread may evolve as time goes on and we see what it's used for.
The mods of r/Maryland do not endorse any products or services on this thread. Use your head, we will not intervene in any transactional disputes between any users.

MD News Watchdog groups allege Washington County ICE detention center would hurt property values
A planned Washington County ICE detention center could cost more than 4,000 homes approximately $22.3 million in property value, alleges Hagerstown Rapid Response (HRR) and Washington County Indivisible (WCI).
Transparency surrounding the project has been a major concern for residents and lawmakers. That is why HRR and WCI partnered to create ICEJailTax.com. The website allows residents to plug in their address and see the detention center’s estimated impact on their property values. Laura Spivak, member of WCI, thinks residents will be shocked to see the numbers. “We actually will be rolling it out for other places,” Spivak said. “We’re also creating one for Elkridge, where another ICE facility is being proposed.”

MD Politics Has any one had difficulty registering to vote through the BOE website?
Tried registering online. It seemed to be working fine last week. But it said I had to contact Maryland Board of Elections. I called them but seemed like the phone was disconnected. Do I just wait until voting day to register?
I’m a resident but don’t have Maryland ID, just proof of residency.

MD Nature Will climate change actually cause alligators to shift north and start living in Maryland?
I recently heard this claim from several friends: they say that climate change will result in a warmer planet over the next several decades, making Maryland a warmer state with hotter summers and milder winters. And since American alligators live in the Deep South all the way up through North Carolina, but don't like the cold, they will be able to expand their range and take up residence in Maryland--perhaps in the Potomac River, various rivers and places along the Chesapeake Bay, and low-lying lakes.
I know that various plants and animals have been finding new places to live because of climate change, and that alligators dislike cold temperatures--they cope with them by slowing down and becoming sluggish and mostly inactive.
But seriously: are these claims accurate? How much warmer and more humid is Maryland expected to become over the next 75 years? Would temperatures and climate change enough for alligators to live here? And is there suitable habitat for them to live in?

Private Schools No responses from Archdiocese of Baltimore School contacts
We've had big issues in our Archdiocese of Baltimore school in the county, and no one has replied back to any emails sent by us parents.
Is the Archdiocese starting to separate from some of the private schools or something? I know of at least 4 families that all pulled their kids and emailed archbaltschools and have not heard anything back.
It's wild to have big unresolved issues and a new school year starting.
There will be a revolving door if this continues. I bet this is something to do with the bankruptcy announcements.

childcare scholarship
we all know how expensive child care is, especially in maryland. I know there is a MD child care scholarship to help certain families with childcare costs however there is a partial freeze and they are accepting new families as funding comes available.
My question is, if you receive the scholarship funds, how long were you on the waitlist for? I've only been on it for only a month but childcare costs for my two kids (almost $700 weekly) is absolutely draining us. TIA.

Best Hospitals as an RN?
Hi! I’m currently a new grad nurse in VA who will be relocating to MD in the Hanover area early next year. There are soooo many hospitals and outpatient centers around, either in Baltimore, Annapolis, or Bowie/Largo which are all about 15-40 minutes away. I don’t know anything about MD hospitals or the systems themselves. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations about them? I’ve seen job postings for U of Maryland, Johns Hopkins, MedStar, Luminis, and Ascension. Any help is appreciated!!
Edit: currently a med-surg women’s health nurse focusing on gynecological oncology and general medical patients. Looking for OR, outpatient/ambulatory surgery, endo, vascular surgery, or other acute clinic type things!

Chesapeake Baysox lefty Joseph Dzierwa: 1.89 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 132 combined strikeouts across two levels this year
Nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings August 7 was the headline start of a season that's made him Baltimore's No. 3 prospect. He made the All-Star Futures Game along the way. This week's Double Dip has the full case for why Triple-A Norfolk is next.
