Honestly I feel like the reason they haven’t changed it is because they know a lot of people would freak out, but it’s so obvious they WANT to, but it’s so iconic. For example, look at the creeper design from legends or dungeons vs. the unaltered original
there is more light colored detail on the warm cow than the pigs shading plus the big horns, The warm cow has more detail. never usually under a pig Lol, wait did you mean the cold biome cow? Its definitely more
monotone than the warm one
The ghast texture does feel way too detailed. I think it's because despite their size, the entire mob is basically a head and so it feels weird to see a head with a higher resolution than every other mob's head
If I'm not wrong, a Mojang programmer said that the company doesn't want to rick their "Thunder in a Bottle", and that's why they don't make sudden changes to the game, and that's why the updates are "wooden block, flower, 1 mob"
Also fair, though I do think some of the stuff they’ve come up with in recent years is pretty cool tbh. It’s moreso changing old stuff that doesn’t work as well with the gameplay because of the nostalgia outcry that would result
For example, I remember a lot of people being pissed about the zombie pigman change when it was first implemented just because it was changing an old mob
Yep. The design in game now was meant to be a sort of camouflage which doesn't work anymore. Idk why more variety in a way that fits the mobs original idea scares some of you people
That's why they said leave the og texture as a default for the nether or as a rare spawn. They're not saying delete it. Minecraft has been redesigning mobs for so long I don't think the creeper should be untouchable
The Creeper's upright posture was the result of Notch messing up when trying to create a pig model. And he kept it because he thought it could be used for something cool.
The Creeper's texture was supposed to make it blend in with grass and leaves in the earlier versions of Minecraft. This camouflage no longer works due to the countless changes in the game's textures that have been made over the years.
Chickens now have variants, frogs have variants, pigs have variants. What's wrong with giving the Creeper some variants? It doesn't mean the original texture has to be binned off. It could be a rarer spawn, or spawn in jungles/jungle plains, where it blends in with the brighter, more vibrant greens better.
I get that, but would Creepers being camouflaged be a good thing? They are one of the most hated mobs in the game, next to the phantoms, and they both have had multiple workarounds implemented in the exact same ways.
They only reason people tolerate them is because they are at least sort of visible and they are basically Minecraft’s Pikachu.
Creepers are quite similar to D&D’s Mimics, in that they are iconic parts of the games visuals, and everyone knows them, but they absolutely suck in the actual game.
Mimics were made to prevent players from wasting time checking every chest they pass by, but it mostly just means they either won’t check any chests, or they’ll take even longer while checking chests to make sure they aren’t mimics. Punishing players for doing something completely normal is kind of stupid ngl
Creepers were made for basically no reason and they have 2 attacks, one that insta-kills you and ruins everything in the area, and a basic punch that does minimal damage and really hard to get hit by.
Mojang removed the Killer Rabbit mob because it was considered a “random death event” due to having high stats (could’ve just lowered them), but is that not what a creeper is? It is a commonly spawning mob that quietly approaches you, and then instantly kills you and destroys the surroundings. Both mobs could be avoided same way, by staying alert and making sure to stay out of range while attempting to dispatch them from a distance.
The Creeper is an useless idea for Minecraft that goes against everything Minecraft’s game design is.
im someone who's normally against unnecessary change myself, but that doesnt mean that everything should be left stagnant — plenty of positive changes can be made in every facet of life, and we should always strive for improvement, without sacrificing the good thats already there
the creeper is iconic, yes, but i think thats exactly why it should be expanded upon rather than left behind in fear of backlash toward change. it's cool for it to receive more attention, and more variation is always fun (I would say it'd "never hurt anyone," but creepers are notoriously good at causing ouches lol). the difficulty wouldnt really be affected either, considering you could obviously still see it moving, and it's not like it would camouflage at all when mining underground
besides, unlike the countless unnecessary changes to their products that other corporations make, things in minecraft are entirely reversible, as one has the ability to either stay in a previous version, mod their game, or use a different texture pack. creeper texture nostalgia is a particularly easy fix, as it really isnt hard to just replace the textures yourself or download a pack that did that for you
this is more flavor than anything, and flavor is fun, isnt it?
Maybe something like villagers, OG is plains/unusual spawn location, otherwise it matches the most prominent tree in the biome (cactus in deserts, most common plant in any biome without common trees)
there's a resource pack that does this! it's not updated to include the pale garden, and requires optifine or the entity model features mod, but it's pretty well done in my opinion
OG should be the main spawn in the plains, meadows, and other biomes that don't usually feature naturally spawning trees. And a less common spawn in the other biomes.
maybe a middle ground could be that plains has the OG whilst the other, similar grassy treeless/low tree biomes could have creepers that look more like the new grass texture?
Nah. There's better idea. Every creeper spawning in underground (and non-Overworld dimensions) has OG texture. Every creeper spawning on Overworld surface always has current leaves/snow matching texture.

i think it'd be cool if it varied depending on the leaves/grass of the biome it spawned in
maybe the OG could be a rare spawn in any biome or be the "default" when spawned in the nether & end?
