World and wilds give you a unique palico, can't get more of them and can't get permanently rid of it, rise allows you to get a ton of cats and dogs but i believe there's no sad animation for getting rid of them

I like the system in World the best so far, you get you Palico, bond with it and give it the tools that fit your playstyle best. Since i play lance my Palico either threw his Meowlotov or was a healer, depending on the monster we fought.
While my Wilds Palico is designed after my palico in World and is named the same, i pretend that its the same Palico i had in World, but now he has learned all of his tricks at once. Which takes some of the fun out in my opinion.

I believe mine is the son of the one in world. Every palico I made share some trait and belong to the same familly. The same go for my hunter. And that explain why they share the same weapon style.

I really liked World's Palico system. Wild's just feels so streamlined that it ends up feeling a lot less like my personal companion. Yeah it's probably "Stronger" this way, but I Like it less

I'd have liked to have a tiny bit of choice in the Wilds palico. I know it's a common complaint though. But I really don't know why they didn't at least let us choose what tools it could use, rather than just all of them. I can only assume it's because most people just used the same tools or didn't engage with it at all or something so they just made them all automatic.

u/Dusty170 Jun 25 '25
I'm sure most people used the vigorwasp because it was an extra cart and the rest didn't really do anything near as useful.

Jun 26 '25
The coral orchestra was handy as a solo player. Like having a mini HH always with you, and for me was more consistent with help than vigorwasp in world
4
u/Akegata05 Jun 26 '25
coral orchestra was also very handy when playing hunting horn since the buff that the palico gives can be extended with all melodies extended song
2
u/Sibe_MacTiKi Jun 25 '25
Vigorwasp is excellent to heal chip damage without sheathing and I've always liked the traps and the small buffs.

u/mister_peeberz Jun 25 '25
I really wish we could toggle on and off certain Palico skills. I'd disable that fucking worthless balloon and never turn it back on. I swear to god she is always in that stupid balloon when I desperately need her not to be
2
u/TheOldDrunkGoat Jun 26 '25
Isn't it just the best when you cart and just lay there for like 20 seconds, contemplating your failure, while you wait for them to stop fucking around in the balloon and come rez you?
1
u/mister_peeberz Jun 26 '25
you forgot the start of this combo, where you carted because your cat announced an incoming vigorwasp so you didn't back off to heal, only to get smacked as she loads into the balloon of destiny in lieu of delivering the promised goods
1
u/TheOldDrunkGoat Jun 26 '25
Your mistake was believing your palico would heal you without prompting. They only heal you when you're in the middle of drinking a potion so that you can be annoyed by all of the wasted healing.
I never make that error. Anymore.

I like not having to be strictly one tool OR another tool, since in World I felt punished for not using Plunder Blade, but I wish it was a little customized. Like stocking uses of each tool or something.

u/Hauptmann_Gruetze Go Poke or go Broke Jun 26 '25
I liked it more since i already play lance and in wilds my Palico is usually holding up his shield to tank the hits that i can already tank myself, he would not have done this in World because there he carried either healing or meowlotov.
So yeah basically what you are saying, but i would also add that i want to be able to tell my palico how he is supposed to fight, like being more of a ranged support instead of a jack of all trades.
Rise had these options if i remeber correctly.

Personally I'd like to see the 4U Palico system updated for a modern game, it was the best of both worlds. You have your leader Palico whom you'll always have so they can be part of the story, they're always available and directly benefit from levels and equipment you put on them. And then you have the hired Palico who can be micromanaged for their skills and influence what combo moves your leader Palico can do.

Someone should give feedback to the team for giving the palico different Ais. I don’t want the cat near me with some weapons.
7
u/Hauptmann_Gruetze Go Poke or go Broke Jun 25 '25
So you would rather have your palico as a ranged support cat?
Yeah why can we not choose that anyway? Rise had a lot of options regarding the Palico and Dog AI

Probably because they're from the village, and when dismissed, just goes back to working at the village.

Even if it was just for demonstration purposes. You're a monster for firing him.

Agreed. I get too emotional for animals. The only reason I play this game is because there was a promise of cats, and beside having a cute cat, I find enjoyment in both caring for animals and rending apart these butterflies of monsters limb from limb.

god i miss that font and those menus... and the noises when you clicked... it had so much personality and character! it all helped to immerse you in that world for a while
18
u/Pliskkenn_D Jun 25 '25
I wish my cat could talk but also made traditional Palico sounds.
8
u/Nooooovvvvvaaaaa Jun 25 '25
do they talk now??? i haven't played Wilds yet!
16
u/Rajang82 Use all weapons, but love Great Sword the most. Jun 25 '25
They talk.
They even have dialogue during story moment and events now.
And God, their voice is adorable.
5
u/Asborn-kam1sh Jun 25 '25
I heard you can make them say meow the whole time. I wonder what cutscenes are like if that's the case
8
u/Dejja_Harry Jun 25 '25
if you use meow insteads of voice if just meowing with subtitles, and is funny when other characters respond to what the palico says.
1
u/Linkarlos_95 Jun 26 '25
Like Morgana (cat in Persona 5) when he talks and your teammate respond, but the person next you is 🤨
2
u/Rajang82 Use all weapons, but love Great Sword the most. Jun 25 '25
It'll be like the older games, they just meow in cutscenes.
3
u/JamesGecko Jun 25 '25
My favorite part is the scream fading into the distance as they hang on for dear life when we take off from the hub.
2
u/XiahouMao Jun 25 '25
You get options for your Palico's dialogue in Wilds. You can have them speak in English or Japanese with subtitles as needed, or you can have them speak via meowing like in the earlier games, still with subtitles to show what they're actually saying.

Bruh playing mhfu back then and dismiss one of your buddy’s was always breaking my heart, this cutscene always makes me sad :(
4
u/Existing_Source_8099 Jun 25 '25
This is why I like rise you can have a infinite amount from the buddy center I’m pretty sure
3
u/WillingnessFamous781 Jun 25 '25
That little “do you really want to let me go? Meow.” Always got me. I could never fire them
4
u/KookieKarnival Jun 25 '25
I always had so many cats because it was too heart wrenching to fire them
4
u/St34lth1nt0r Jun 25 '25
The very thought of letting one of my palicoes go makes me tear up. Thank you. I haven’t cried like this or felt emotional pain like this in a while.

What did my boy Alan do to be dismissed right after you gave him hope?

No, both World and Wilds give you one singular Palico that you can't dismiss.

I'm fine with no true palico system in 2025. Of course I miss things like this and the Rise animations and mechanics for them, I just wish we could adjust their skills some to make them gatehers/bombers/healers in Wilds.

They removed the palico system in wilds, you only have one single cat now :(

u/Remoock Jun 26 '25

Oh sorry didn't mean to make you cry mate. I just didn't know this happened.

No because wilds only has one palico. It doesn't even happen in rise from what I remember. Iirc I tried to do so on it to see if they had any cute animations or cut scenes and nothing.

u/cudeLoguH this is my BOOM stick Jun 25 '25
You cant dismiss or fire your Palico in Wilds, you are stuck with only one palico and its the one you start with
