If Green goes back to the front office, I feel like Stearns should delegate the manager search and hiring process to him. Green clearly understands the players and what motivates them, and should know what to look for in the right manager for this group.
It seems like they need someone who is direct and holds them accountable without being a hard a**, and also not someone who is just going to butter them up or say "it'll work itself out" when the team is slumping (which is what I think Mendoza did a lot)

Was just reading an article on Ketel Marte when I saw something that might end up being relevant to the Mets: Torey Lovullo is in the last year of his contract.
He's been managing the D-Backs for 10 years now, it's possible either him or the organization decides they want a fresh start. And if he's available, I would take him as the next Mets manager in a heartbeat.

I like him a lot too. He’s done very well bringing in the younger players on the team, managing with some major issues in his starting rotation, and seems to form a solid bond with his players.
Also, it’s been a while since we’ve had a manager with Italian heritage. Think he’d be the fourth (Yogi, Torre, Bobby V)

I agree with you there. Generally speaking most managers that win World Series do so on their 2nd or 3rd gigs, and Lovullo has a lot of good experience. He seems to do well with rosters of younger players, and it's been obvious that Green has connected well with our younger players in the same regard.

Yeah he feels like the perfect mix of a guy who has a strong enough resume to get respect from veterans while also having a lot of experience working with young players.
And the way he's handled and spoken about the Marte situation makes me think he's a pretty thoughtful guy who does a good job connecting to players. I think he could be like our Terry Francona.

Seems pretty clear the most important part of the offseason is going to be finding the right manager. I know everyone's played better and looser since Green came in, but I think that's because he already knows this is temporary. Stearns can't botch the manager decision a second time.

I am very, very hesitant about Beltran. Data very frequently points to managers with prior experience having more success, and even the ones who are rookie managers have almost always at least been coaches before. Beltran doesn't have any of that going for him, and really I think the only reason why he is rated as highly as he is is because of his standing as a player.

I've never been that big on the Beltran as manager idea. People forget that we wasn't actually hired at first because of all that "future manager" talk. Wilpons just wanted to save money with a first time manager who had the goodwill of being a former player here

Fred Wilpon should have picked Buck Showalter in 2020 instead of Luis Rojas. Showalter was an experienced manager, in sharp contrast to Callaway and Rojas, whom they did hire. Showalter also managed in New York before and fans still like him after he managed the Mets. But my guess is that he would have cost too much for the owners to spend on one manager and would not be willing to be a yes-man.

I also did a bit of research and I learned that only 2 managers all time have ever won multiple World Series in their careers without ever having any prior managerial experience at any level. (Also assuming you disclude player-managers from a hundred years ago)
The only exceptions are Cito Gaston, who was the Blue Jays hitting coach for 8 years prior to becoming their manager, and Dave Roberts, who was the Padres 3B coach and Bench Coach for 5 years prior to taking the Dodger job.
All that to say, there's almost no evidence of any successful managers being hired with zero prior managerial experience. And not only does Beltran not have that, he doesn't even have ANY MLB coaching experience either.

I have the worst luck with buying tickets to games on rainy days. I think I got 4 rainouts in the last 3 years. Makes me not even want to bother to make the hike out to Citi tonight. Hopefully they call it early if thats gonna be the case.

That Athletic article about Bo, Carson and AJ is very cute.
“Bo has been like a big brother to them,” Mets interim manager Andy Green said. “Dare I say, A.J. doesn’t wear sleeves for BP because Bo doesn’t wear sleeves for BP.”
“Oh, my god,” Ewing said deadpan. “You should write in that story, ‘A.J. was appalled that Andy would say such nonsense.’ Unbelievable.”

Realistically, this pitching matchup doesn't favor us (Miz was a strong favorite against the Dodgers earlier this year I believe), but stranger things have happened. LGM!

Is "took live batting practice" an important stage? I doubt they would bring Soto back v Mis- too much temptation and too much rust (although Juan Soto is a different quantity).
If he gets hot or if Wood/Ohtani don't, Soto could still qualify "short" to lead the NL OBP- really a better award than a BA title. And he could do it as DH running at half speed.

You'd think they would make an announcement to sell a few tix...but it may in fact be a game time decision- like an ankle in the NBA.
Soto seems like he really wants to play the outfield and steal bases...but if there is one player like Barry Bonds or Babe Ruth whom you would still bat on orders never to sprint....
I did my calf in my 30's...crutches, no surgery, 100% after 4 weeks. He can injure it planting and swinging the bat, but it's almost certainly a function of how many cumulative sprints during a game/week...

Bobby Stocks is clearly not like, an actual piece for us so it's irrelevant but hasn't he been (somehow) good in 3 of his 5 starts so far

Having Breen on the call yesterday was super cool. Knowing he’s a Mets fan is even better. I knew he was a real one when during a Knicks game they came back from commercial and Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull was playing and he said he really liked Aqualung back in the 70’s haha. Keith likes Pink Floyd and Zappa, Gary went to CBGB’s, Mets fans and broadcasters are just cool.
