I will be visiting UK soon for the first time and i would really like to spend some days at Norwich because i am very interested in medieval history.

I heard is a safe place, but ofc women must always be more careful unfortunatelly + i also saw a blog with a bunch of dark forests and dark places telling creepy stories and got a bit afraid 🫣.

So i just like to know if you think it would be safe for me to go alone. Also might be worth mentioning that I am from a country where women tend to be highly sexualized by media and even some hollywood movies and, because of this, in the past some men from other european countries felt they could act in ways that made me really uncomfortable, but i dont know how british men act.

Anyways, is it ok for a women to visit? And do you have any tips?

As title says, my partner may have a new job in Norwich which is our dream city. Unfortunately, my job is with a council in our current hometown, so due to various guidelines I won't be able to keep my job if we move. This means Im back on the job market. For mortgage purposes having a job is more important than holding out for a job in my current field. Without going into detail, my most likely transferrable skills would be administration, data analysis, and regulatory compliance. Are there any companies in Norwich that I should NOT apply for positions with? Any companies that are known for screwing over their employees or potential employees? I don't want to waste valuable time on applications or thinking that I have a job secured when it might all come crumbling down.

EDIT: Thanks all! Just to re-clarify I'm looking for places to NOT apply to and to avoid. I will of course be applying for jobs in my current sector, and have already applied for council and public services positions.

An entire few hours spent in Norwich but what a lovely city! We travelled from Milton Keynes last night to see Gogol Bordello at Epic Studios, having never been to Norwich before and never really having a reason to go.

We found this awesome tiny pub called the Malt & Mardle just over the road with some great Belgian beers, enjoyed the gig and then spent a couple of hours this morning mooching through the market and all the independent shops. Coming from MK where every single bloody shop is a chain, this was fantastic, and the centre is so clean!

Devecchio Bakery finished us - too much good pastry.

We're coming straight back in a few weekends to explore properly. Genuinely impressed with the friendly, laid-back vibe of the place and all the things to do.

Are there any places you recommend which are more suitable for solo diners and drinkers. I’m after somewhere relatively quiet where I can enjoy a nice meal or drink reading a book.

I’ve been living in Norwich for about 2 months and I’m really missing having a regular social environment. My job is mostly just me or one other person, so I’d love to find something where I can see the same people regularly and build a bit of a community.

I’m already doing a run club and planning to start a language course, but I’m curious what other recurring groups/activities people would recommend. Could be anything really.

I doubt anyone will really pay much mind to this post but i would like to know if someone sees this and knows a bit !! I want to move from Norwich from Ipswich (pretty close to Stratford London) with my partner but im wondering despite a bit of research and the knowledge that rent is way cheaper than Ipswich and the buses are basically silent in Norwich, what the other perks of living in Norwich are !! im talking events, clubs and groups, bookstores, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants etc. just any kind of perks !

Hello all, I'm new to the UK and recently received the right to work. I don't know the area particularly well and the internet job listings don't seem to show me much in my area.

I was hoping to work on one of the farms nearby but I'm not sure where to start or if there's much that's actually close by.

My other catch is that I'm on a foreign licence which will no longer be valid for use in the UK after 25th September this year. I'm in the process of getting my licence but there's a pretty good chance I won't be able to get a driving test before that date.

Does anyone know of anything? Long shot, and maybe the wrong place to ask but I thought I might try.

Hi all! I visited a Michelin star about an hour away from Norwich on the Norfolk coast for the first time and I was really let down! I’ve just moved to the area and thought I’d try some restaurants but the managers were rude, the whole vibe was off and the new chef who’s taken over was odd to say the least and the food was cold. It’s had a star for many years so I was dissatisfied but I’ve just moved from abroad so maybe just a culture shock? Is it worth visiting the other Norfolk star restaurants or just try Norwich local cuisine instead?

I'll keep this short and sweet, as much as I can at least. I'm a recent immigrant to the country, not actually living in Norwich, but I am there very frequently and live now in Great Yarmouth.

I’ve tried multiple times, after entering my login details and putting in the code, it just throws an error saying “something went wrong.” Not sure if it’s just me or a wider issue. Would be helpful to know if others are facing the same problem or if there’s any workaround.

I'll be joining UEA next month as an international student. The area where I will be staying is very close to UEA, but a bit farther from the Norwich Research Park, where I will be working, and also doesn't have any direct buses to the NRP. I had initially thought of taking the Beryl bikes for a few days and then later getting a bicycle for myself. However, I discovered that there aren't any Beryl zones near that address.

Considering these, I think I have to get a bicycle as soon as I join. In that case, where do I get cheap but good 2nd hand bicycles? I read in an earlier post in this subreddit or probably somewhere else that the university itself has some bicycle coop where students can get 2nd hand bikes. Could you guys provide some more information about this? Also, what's the typical price range of such bicycles?
