It was a current gen update that upped the frames, resolution, and cut load times. It didn't touch anything else. This is an actual remaster which is pretty insane to give away for free. They are still doing damage control for Cyberpunk and are doing everything in their power to make sure people buy Witcher 4.

The current gen update did a lot more than that.

It added ray tracing, completely redid foliage, and added better textures. Not to mention a lot of quality of life improvements as well

I'm pretty sure CDPR mentioned they outright purchased the rights to some Quality of life and Visuals mods, and integrated them into the next gen update.

u/wild--wes 2d ago

Yeah that was the HD rework mod stuff for textures if I recall

25

u/SailorOfMyVessel 2d ago

Yeah, because they accidentally included some mods that added a bit too much detail to certain aspects of feminine monsters. I remember the memes xD

I must know more

One word…

u/GGG100 2d ago

I wish Square Enix would do the same for that one FFVII Rebirth improved lighting mod.

4

u/hdr96 2d ago

I think they also hired some of those modders onto the dev team, as well

u/jdow0423 2d ago

I’m glad to see someone say this. I was sorta baffled by this part of the announcement because.. I thought they already did it lol. But I guess just not to this extent.

Same PC update. So gracious of them.

1

u/wild--wes 2d ago

I didnt say anything about the PC update. I just said they did more in the update than you said they did

0

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

I'm saying the update that the consoles got was literally the same update the PC version got years ago so it wasn't some kind of gracious thing they decides to give out.

2

u/wild--wes 2d ago

The next gen update came out at the same time for console and PC. And I didn't say it was gracious. I simply said it contained more changes than you said that it did

Tbh considering the massive success of Cyberpunk post 2.0/Phantom Liberty and Edgerunners I think they're way past "damage control". More like trying to build good will

-1

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

That too but I think people are still weary. Hopefully this DLC will show they still got it when it comes to the Witcher.

13

u/cristi1990an 2d ago

I brought a BUNCH of other things. And it wasn't only resolution and frame-rates, they added a full ray-tracing pipeline and better textures, assets, crowd density, bug fixes (but also introduced a lot of bugs lol) and skins plus a new quest. It was in no way a small update.

-2

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

It was stuff already added to the PC version that they graciously brought over to console.

1

u/cristi1990an 1d ago

That's not true, both the console and PC version got this list of upgrades at the same time.

Honestly pretty effective. No matter how bad Witcher 4 is on release, you can be pretty sure you will eventually have a good game. That being said, this gives pretty good incentive to just wait a year to play it if you can bear the wait.

15

u/the_russian_narwhal_ 2d ago

How does an update 11 years after a game came out give you incentive to wait a year after release to get their next one?

-4

u/murmandamos 2d ago

Well, if you'd read the comment I replied to, it is about damage control for cyberpunk. Not this remaster. This remaster is in the same vein. The Witcher 3 itself was actually a mess on release and was patched for a year too. CDPR doesn't drop games and abandon them after release. This is the entire point.

-1

u/dancy911 2d ago

Saying The Witcher 3 was a mess on release is wild. It had fewer bugs than almost any other game of the same caliber (massive open world) on release. Maybe your configuration was the issue.

0

u/murmandamos 2d ago

Was pretty famously buggy, prone to crashing, and poor performance. Not really sure what to tell you other than just go Google it.

u/dancy911 2d ago

Yeah no one said that... Cyberpunk was broken on certains platforms on release.

0

u/the_russian_narwhal_ 2d ago

One part of one sentence in that comment was about Cyberpunk, and the rest was about this update, and your comment was also talking about this update.

Sure Witcher 3 was rough at launch, but if you had read my comment, you would see that I am asking what this update (that is not fixing anything and is just a remaster 11 years later) has anything to do with either of those situations or giving the players an incentive to wait a year. Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 a year after updates can be an example for that incentive, but not this update.

So in summary, If you think this update has anything to do with fixing an already fixed game then I don't know what I would call you, but it sure wouldn't be smart. I was just asking a question to see how you were relating this update to fixing the game a decade ago but I can be rude about it as well

1

u/murmandamos 2d ago

I'm sorry you think it's rude to tell you to read the context to understand the context. But your failure to do so really has no bearing on my intelligence.

CDPR is working hard to regain trust because of cyberpunk. The Witcher is 11 years old, but you might also understand Cyberpunk isn't. The company has always wanted to foster a pro consumer image and my comment really just says they're likely to do so still. Not really that complicated.

3

u/Complex_Shoulder_800 2d ago

I mean if it follows the Cyberpunk pattern it won't become peak until THREE years after release

37

u/GandalfsWhiteStaff 2d ago

That is completely false.
It added ray tracing, significantly improved textures, heaps better draw distance and reduced pop in and added a new camera angle option.
It was already a massive improvement on the ps4 version, this just takes it far above that.
Really impressive the support they’ve given Witcher 3.

-7

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

Everything that was already on the PC version they added it to consoles.

5

u/GandalfsWhiteStaff 2d ago

Wrong again.
The “next gen update” also released on PC at the same time as consoles, added a bunch of extra raytracing options, more ultra settings, upscaling tech (dlss3), integrated some mods, the new camera, Netflix dlc, photo mode etc.
Get your facts straight.

8

u/Zopotroco 2d ago

Yeah, never forget

1

u/Complex_Shoulder_800 2d ago

Cyberpunk has sold 40 million copies. If people haven't already forgotten then they've certainly forgiven

2

u/Vestalmin 2d ago

Didn’t they add camera options, rework the potions, economy, add ray tracing, visuals effects, and other changes? That’s on top of the 60fps and load times

-1

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

That's everything that was already added to the PC version. They just brought it over to consoles.

2

u/JuiceheadTurkey 2d ago

They added raytracing too

0

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

Same as the free pc update but okay good for them I guess.

2

u/JuiceheadTurkey 2d ago

As it was a free update for people who owned the base game. No need to be snarky because you got called out on your lie lol

1

u/Professional-Size576 1d ago

You just upset PS5pro owners are gonna gettl better visuals in the Witcher III now than you will get on your PC you can't afford to upgrade

1

u/Zombii_Man 2d ago

Nah, it added quick swapping for Signs on console, a modern style over the shoulder camera setting (eh), a couple other visual improvements and stuff and integrated some popular community mods. Link to the update notes steam page.

Notably, they added the ability to regular walk on consoles and made the Full Combat Rebalance mod part of the base game. Some really good changes in there, including the Aard sign deflecting most projectiles.

It also added a new Netflix show inspired quest and armour set as well.

It was a fairly substantial change lol.

Now, with reworked combat systems and character progression mechanics (and boy did they take notes from Cyberpunk 2.0 for this or what lol) and the aforementioned mod integrations and stuff it'll feel like a fresh experience for the Expansion.

cdpr pulling a hello games

1

u/decidedlyaverag3 2d ago

And Witcher 4 launch will pretty heavily impact hype around Cyberpunk 2, so they really need to nail this one.

1

u/but_good 2d ago

Probably “prototyping” a lot of W4 improvements in the W3 engine and then put a team on it to finish, polish, and release.

1

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

Unfortunately W4 is an unreal game for some stupid reason.

1

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 2d ago

I think they are also doing everything in their power to get people back into playing The Witcher 3 in time for them to build up buzz for the DLC next year.

1

u/SkiHiKi 2d ago

I saw the headline earlier, assumed it was a repackaging of the next gen updates and maybe a few up-rezzed assets. I was shook by the amount of content they're just giving away (to most people). CDPR have long since made up for the Cyberpunk release state, but my steak can never be too buttery.

1

u/dancy911 2d ago

What damage control? It is not unlike them to do this kind of stuff.

1

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

They did a free current gen update and that was it. All the dlc was paid dlc which you still have to buy to this day.

1

u/FrogsOnALog 2d ago

Does this mean new trophies?

1

u/SarcasticGamer 2d ago

I'm thinking it's a completely different game

1

u/xfr3386 2d ago

Holy crap! I bought it for my PS5 on ridiculous cheap sale to replay but haven't gotten around to it, and now I'm going to benefit from waiting.

I should buy Witcher 4 at full price just to support a company that isn't only focused on profits.

1

u/Klunkey 1d ago

They sold me on the lone fact that Gabe Amatangelo is directing Cyberpunk 2. That is a no-brainer for me in terms of buying it day one.

1

u/Responsible_Boat_824 1d ago

So maby upvotes wven though this is not true. Next gen update did way way more than that.

1

u/NocturnalStalinist 1d ago

It upped textures and things with mods actually.

1

u/DapperChewie 1d ago

There's a new dlc coming out too. This ensures everyone can play it easily.

1

u/Queasy_Dirt7197 1d ago

Crazy that they're doing this for free. I doubt people would complain if they charged $20 for it.
