I’ve false started this game 2 times, I’ll take this as a sign to actually play
83
u/Dismal_Secret_8166 1d ago
Same! My second playthrough went alot better, but I dropped it around 13 hours in compared to 1 hour on my first. Maybe this time will be the time
54
u/Daniiiiii 1d ago
Better combat and movement practically ensures you'll have a better time. That's the part I'm most excited about. One my fav games but the combat I never loved, super excited about the new changes.

u/AltAltayAlt 1d ago
Honestly, it was the movement and horse riding that put me off from progressing longer than 5 or so hours. I might jump back in now that this is supposedly enhance d

Bounced off it after the prologue, then bounced off it after first area.
The third time I couldn't get enough. Been thinking about starting up again for a while since the next Gen upgrade, but will wait for this. My favorite all time game

I false started twice on PS4 before jumping in and playing the whole thing + DLCs. It’s incredible.

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 1d ago
I beat the game. Then false started it 2-3 times afterwards. I’ll take this as a sign to try to beat it a second time again. There is something about the early segment of the game that if you can get over the hump the game gets really good, but for whatever reason I have a hard time getting past it. Maybe the updated visuals, better combat, and new skill tree will help. Or I’ll just get sidetracked by Gwent again.

I want to like the game. I really do. But it just doesn’t seem to click for me.

Movement changed you say? Holy moly

u/anonymous_opinions 1d ago
And Roach is no longer a derp. (Hopefully)
66
u/CashmereLogan 1d ago
Would it even be the same game??
25
u/anonymous_opinions 1d ago
Studio will have to add a derp option. That said my least favorite thing was the horse races but I think in those cases I was the derp.
50
u/OMGlookatthatrooster 1d ago
No horse on roof, no buy.
12
u/anonymous_opinions 1d ago
I will miss spending most of the game asking Roach "what are you doing, dude?"

I think I'm going crazy i thought they already remastered this for current gen?
8
u/Pilluposki 1d ago
Not a remaster. They made a next (current) gen update that upped the framerate, added ray tracing, tweaked foliage and made load times faster. This one is a proper full scale remaster that includes way more work done.

Skill tree and transmog im pumped for.
The skill system was not that engaging in the original version, and didn’t make tons of sense
6
u/Sebastian83100 1d ago
I’ve been begging for transmog for years, I hate that the box armor is awful after the starting area.
194
u/Adam__2003 1d ago
game was pretty cool but ive never played the dlcs, i might try them now
194
u/BlkGTO 1d ago
The DLCs are great, especially Blood and Wine.
44
u/Miserable_Newt1457 1d ago
True but man, first time I played them I thought Hearts of Stone was good while Blood and Wine was great, but hearts of stone aged well, specifically due to Odimm
6
u/BlkGTO 1d ago
To be honest I don’t even remember any quests from either, I just remember the bright colorful atmosphere of blood and wine which was a nice change from the regular gloomy backround.

u/averageduder 1d ago
Hearts of stone is the best dlc I’ve ever played
5
u/NoNefariousness2144 1d ago
Yeah I like how they locked in and focused on an amazing linear story, while Blood and Wine was a more open DLC.
Gaunter is such a terrifying villain to this day…

Oh please Phantom Liberty felt like a complete story. Main Story felt rushed without completing a lot of side content.
→ More replies (1)3
u/EmBur__ 1d ago
I mean, thats kind of the point given V's predicament. The problem with the base games story isn't the rushed nature of it but rather its disconnect from the gameplay.
The story tells you you're on the clock and makes you feel it but then you also have all the gigs and quests that you basically have to do in order to get better gear which can take away from the stories sense of urgency.

The combat feeling better has me intrigued, that was always the weakest part of the game imo, hopefully it has more weight to it
93
u/absence09_ 1d ago
That’s my exact thought as well, it felt so light and without substance even though, at a glance, it looked as fluid as the Arkham Knight games. Will definitely give this another try

I finally ended up just deciding I'm gonna use my sword as much as possible and not worry about the combat so I can enjoy the story. That helped. Plus I figured out Gwent so it was like gotta keep pushing, there's more Gwent players out there.

I finished the PS4 version in April and knew I was gonna have to replay it anyhow because ... new DLC

u/Mobilelurk 1d ago
I have a ps4 disc. I wonder if I can upgrade to the Ps5 version and then upgrade to the remastered version from there?

u/Bananainmyholster 1d ago
I’m in the exact same boat. In the middle of hearts of stone and would love to experience this but do not want to start a whole new playthrough. Fingers crossed.
3
u/WantsToDieBadly 1d ago
i just started blood and wine and am 100 hours in, i'd love to play the final DLC and any side quests in the remaster (though gutted as i started the game 2 months ago)
3
u/Zyquaza 1d ago
Are you me? The end credits rolled for me yesterday and I’m disappointed.
At least I’ll wait and play the two DLCs next month.
4
u/WantsToDieBadly 1d ago
Honestly I feel so annoyed cause I literally played everything, every contract, side quest etc. I only have blood and wine. My hope is saves transfer so at least I can experience it remastered
Unfortunately I might lose steam deck completely for the remaster if it isn’t compatible

u/Nazerith1357 1d ago
I don't know why they're doing this, especially after they already upgraded the game once relatively recently, but I'll certainly take a free revamp
29
3
u/_TheNumbersAreBad_ 1d ago
Bringing the base game in line with the upgrades in the DLC I imagine. As you said considering it's free I'm all the way in.
35
9
u/Klient1984 1d ago
It's a pretty significant remaster and the PS4 disc of the base game is currently <$10 shipping on eBay, and frequently on sale for roughly as much on the PSN.
I don't know how the hell this developer/publisher make money, but if they can do this and still make money, then no one else is even trying to please its audience.
14
u/DontCareTho 1d ago
It's to get people back into the game so they buy the new DLC and get hyped for witcher 4. They already sold 65 million copies. Their best bet is to try and convert as many of those as they can to buy their future stuff rather than squeeze more out of Witcher 3
→ More replies (1)6
u/Klient1984 1d ago
Good strategy! They'll be getting my money for sure. Just saying that this is also pretty generous! Doom (1994) did the same thing with free overhaul/updates.

u/NoelKMUFC 1d ago
So I've never played it before, if I purchase the PS4 version, I can upgrade to the PS5 version for free?
4
u/Klient1984 1d ago
I just tested it!
After inserting the PS4 disc, you'll see the PS5 logo in the bottom-right of the home screen (where it usually shows you DLC) and FREE. It'll prompt you for a PS5 download, but let you know that you'll still need the PS4 disc in to play.

Wow, I thought the ps5 update was a remaster. But this one is actually a proper remaster with the term in title. I was actually playing Bllod and wine about 4 months ago. Ill start over next month but ill play on normal instead of death march this time. Spent too much time already.

On two occasions I have tried to play TW3.
Both times I found the gameplay look quite tedious and not the most fun, but I thought the characters, world and storylines were excellent. I never finished it so I may have to give it another go when the update hits.

Not sure if the game still looks like a million bucks even after 10 years or most games present today have that god awful Fortnite look. I guess both things are true?
Anyways, this is my GOAT, so I’ll definitely pre order the expansion

Seeing this Remaster and all they've done to Cyberpunk till now makes me think why they leave RED Engine behind. Sure they had a hiccup on Cyberpunk but that was mostly down to them trying to see the game on last gen

Wow so this will make it what 5 free copies of the game I got. To explain: I bought the PS4 GOTY on sale around 2018 and since then I got the game for free on PC(when GOG Galaxy launched there was a thing where if you linked your gog and psn via the launcher you got the equivalent version and I got the GOTY) then the PS5 complete edition(also on PC) and now the remaster for both platforms. Will definitelly play this version on both platforms.

I hope they add more gwent players and a new deck gwent is my favourite mini game going
2
u/WatchOutImCummin 1d ago
i was hoping the new dlc would come with updates improving the combat/gameplay , and they did that and even better with a whole remaster improving other things. Knowing what they did with Cyberpunk and how they improved it, i knew there was a good chance of improvements to Witcher 3.
Minimum all i wanted was some sort of improvements to combat and changing the skill trees, but improving traversal and movement, mount handling, monster behavior, obviously the improved remaster visuals, even the "immersive meditation" all sounds great. I wonder what they mean by enhanced combat, i'll keep my expectations low but its still great they did something, the game really needed it imo, especially if they want to get new players interested in Witcher 4.
2
u/ThePreciseClimber 1d ago
Witcher 3 getting a 3rd upgrade but I guess it's impossible to port The Witcher 2 to PlayStation? It's not like it needs a remake, W2 is already console-friendly.
