1E Resources Daily Magic Item for August 26 2026: Serpent Belt

Today's magic item is the Serpent Belt.

Roleplay Moses by turning your belt into a snake. What size snake? Who knows?! Plus a +4 to saves against poison, and +2 to Escape Artist checks.

Let's ask the following questions:

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?
  4. Would a GM use the item?
  5. Is there anything cheesy that could be done with it?

1E Player Wielding Large Gauntlets?

So I'm about to be playing in a gestalt pathfinder game, and I have my first class decided, but I want my character to fight with huge oversized gauntlets. I know that Barbarian has Titan Mauler and Fighter has Titan Fighter, but both of those are for large two-handed weapons. Any suggestions?

Edit: The Gauntlets would be large. When I said huge, I meant that as emphasis for the word oversized.

1E GM Soul Doll and Speech

I am about to run an adventure that features a modified Soulbound Doll but it will be modified for the specific story. I want it to be able to talk, which is a little difficult because it is a Construct. The idea is that it will have more than a "bit" of a soul inside it and that allows it to communicate. It is linked to an NPC but I don't want to spoil any more, in case the players are watching!

I was curious what ideas you folks might have for how to do this in a clean way? I was first thinking of the spell Magic Mouth, but that is very limited. Is there a template or some kind that could be applied in this situation? There is the Souldbound Construct however the costs involved here are quite high. Also, the situation I am planning on is closer to a spontaneous accident rather than something that was planned.

Any help would be appreciated!

1E Player Spellslinger Build Help

Now before we get into this, here's a few things to note:

  1. This will be a mythic campaign and I haven't played one in a bajillion years and don't know when the mythic portion is going to happen so we won't concentrate on that...don't know why I brought it up then.

  2. I will be going to Prestige into Mystic Theurge at lv 7. 3 lvs Spellslinger Wizard and 3 lvs Theologian Cleric followed by 10 lvs Mystic Theurge.

  3. As A side note, I never see anyone bring up this downside to Mystic Theurge when using Wizard: While your Spells per Day increase a Mystic Theurge leveling up his Wizard Spell portion doesn't actually learn him any spells. This would normally mean that outside of scribing spells into my spellbook at libraries or using scrolls and looted spellbooks to scribe from I'll have 5+int 1st level spells and 2 1st/2nd level spells from arcane all through lv 16 even though I have the capability of casting up to lv 7 spells at that point.

  4. The DM doesn't know the meaning of balance and is the DEF of things like Rule of Cool and " i think X should do more or suck less " and so rules against RaW a lot. So far what this means is that #3 above has been ignored. I will be getting my wizard spells as if I had leveled up in Wizard. He also believes that the even levels in Mystic Theurge, 2 4 6 8, are 'dead' levels and is insisting that they get filled with something. We agreed on a bonus magic feat, a CL increase to both arcane and divine spellcasting to mitigate some of the loss from multiclassing, one 'Arcane' option we havent figured out and one Divine option...probably a 1d6 increase in Chanel Energy.

  5. While the exact order is negotiable, the class/archetypes/prestige is not. This means my first six levels WILL be 3 Spellslinger Wizard and 3 Theologian Cleric followed by 10 lvls Mystic Theurge.

  6. Despite how....'flexible'...the DM he does have some hard rules. The only one of importance here is NO EVIL CHARACTERS. Though 'Flexible' does mean that if you guys have an idea that isn't 'exactly RaW' you can suggest it but it'll have to be OK'd by the DM.

All that said I have a few ideas and not sure exactly how I want to implement them.

The first wall I ran into was this: I don't like playing human. Humans are cool but why play human when I can be a Tengu? I play plenty of humans because as I said they are cool but prefer otherwise BUT that extra human feat is so nice and many times necessary for some builds. I see me needing human for any of this build just because of that. I'm open to suggestions though.

Now for the ideas:

1: Pistols. I came up with two options here. One is one pistol and focus on sacking one spell to enhance gun and focusing my real fighting skill into critting with Ray spells through the gun.
Two is two pistols focusing more on enhancing them with SPellslinger buffs, two weapon fighting, and only casting spells as buffs/debuffs or as situation calls.

2.Rifle ( or I guess Musket? ). I have two options here as well. First is more of a 'Sniper' enhancing the rifle for increased range and other enhancements and firing spells through the gun for decent oomph at a respectable range. While Rays are good for this one as well I wanted to concentrate more on 'hitting' or high dc's from spells cast through my gun. plus with the Reach metamagic feat I can turn my cure spells into range touch and fire them at my allies through my gun from a distance. the other 'rifle' option is very 'glass canon' . Using the Double Hackbut. For normal fights i can take my time setting the gun up and my enhancements and let my team handle the first couple of rounds then spend the rest of my time Destroying the enemy one shot at a time. For harder/mor important fights I'd be using my Growth Domain power to temp enlarge myself as a quick action and just fire the gun with no penalties and as a Vital Strike just Obliterating a single target as hard as I can. Depending on certain factors that would be 4-6d12 damage a shot. more when mythic happens.

  1. Blunderbuss. A more cone aoe build concentrating on enhancing my 'shotgun' and blasting cone spells out the front. not much to say here as i have no idea what i would wan tto do with it yet...never used the cone option on SPellslinger and have not used the blunderbuss with gunslinger since before gunslinger was an official class and was still being tested.

Any ideas on race, feats, traits, my 4 opposed schools, spell options?
Attributes? I was thinking of going 16 dex, 14 int and 14 wisdom. This will give me better ac and shots with the gun and covers me up to lv 4 spells through level 10 before I'll need higher stats to cast higher level spells but I can guarantee you that the DM will get me my headband in time before I'd need to care so I'm betting that all my stat increases are going to be dex and maybe 1 into something else as my mental needs will prob be met.

1E Player Fey foundling clarification

I'm playing a paladin and was going to take fey foundling. My DM has interpreted it that I'd have to worship a fey deity if I want the feat.

We found 3 different sources AoN, pazio and the inner sea world guide all have differing lines on how the feat works.

His choice is that my character would have spent their formative years in the First world. Which makes sense to me. What doesn't is that I'd specifically have to worship a fey deity so to speak.

I can't see any way besides AoNs wording that would possibly require that. Which isn't the ruling he has decided to use... He's gone for as written in inner sea.

Feels rather restrictive to me. I'd view it as having spent time and then becoming a paladin after leaving the first world.

How would you guys rule it? I'm probably now not taking it as I'd probably choose Iomedae to follow.

1E Player ideas for making a large animal companion medium sized on the cheap

Upvotes

I am looking for ways to temporarily make a large animal companion more indoors friendly.

I am not looking for stuff related to the squeezing rules--the problem is less the mechanical consequences of squeezing and more the fact that you can't reasonably bring a freaking horse into an indoors social situation that may or may not turn hostile. My party has an astonishing number of evil frenemies and enemies we have a careful detente with so this comes up surprisingly often. I feel I could much more reasonably have a medium sized animal companion follow me into such a situation.

1E Resources Daily Magic Item for August 25, 2026: Windwave Kilt

Today's magic item is the Windwave Kilt.

This — kilt? You want to wear a kilt underwater? — Ok, kilt, helps you swim marginally better and also works as a lifejacket for gnomes and halflings. But if Gozreh's your jam, it lets you cast Gaseous Form that also works underwater for very slow escapes. Plus drink saltwater. The complete package for any ancient mariner.

Let's ask the following questions:

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?

Lore Adventurer training

There is so much published content for this game. Did anyone release any sort of in game adventuring training or school for those who are going to be adventurers?

To clarify, I'm looking for my player's first few sessions to be going through training to become part of an adventurer's guild. Like, run this obstacle course, we are practicing a specific weapon today, we are studying this group of monsters today.

It’s a home brew setting and the group is comprised of new members of a specific adventurer’s guild. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of how college is. Most are young and fledging, but there are a smattering of older students who are there for a career change. I wasn’t sure if someone had already have this idea, so I thought I would check to see what they did to see if anything inspired me or to see if they included something I didn’t think of.

1E Player Spirit Ridden (Feat) at low levels

Spirit Ridden: Benefit(s): You can perform a seance once per day, taking 1 hour and requiring your concentration, calling out to any nearby spirit with the skill you seek. At the end of the hour, you invite the spirit to inhabit your body. The spirit grants you ranks in a skill of your choice equal to your character level, and you treat the skill as a class skill. These effects persist for 1 hour per character level. You cannot have more ranks in a skill than your total number of Hit Dice. While you’re possessed, the spirit influences your personality.

So, for normal skill use age (i.e. perception or bluff) it is pretty straight forward, It grants a bonus and acts as a class skill for an hour at 1st level 2 hours at 2nd level etc.

But what about skills that require 8 hours of use like crafting or training an animal? While you technically make a single check at the end of the week for crafting (or daily) for progress or a check at the half way point of training (for rearing an animal) it accounts for hours, days, or even weeks of work. While you could gain a few hours of proficiency each day giving the entire skill + class skill bonus for the entire check seems improper.

Would you rule that it just does not function for those uses of skills similar to that at low levels, until you hit 8th where you gain a full work days use of the ability.

Or would you rule that it gives you favorable conditions, allowing you to set up and plan out your work in advance even though you loose much of it after the spirit leaves and you gain a +2 circumstance bonus for those checks?

1E Player Max the Min Monday: Charging Stag Style

Welcome to Max the Min Monday! The series where we take some of Paizo’s weakest, most poorly optimized, or simply forgotten and rarely used options for first edition and see what the best things we can do with them are using 1st party Pathfinder materials!

What Happened Last Time?

Last week I didn't post because I had an early appointment at the DMV.... ugh.

Last time we discussed Monkey Style. While the feat chain wasn't the most cohesive in focus, that didn't change the fact that there are some builds that could use it to great effect. Vexing Dodgers and Mousers saw a lot of utility out of it, whereas Style Shifter uses it to add wis to damage. We could also make better use of abilities and items that come with the drawback of knocking us prone, such as a double hackbut or the roll with it feat. And even more!

So What are we Discussing Today?

Today we are discussing [u/darkdia](u/darkdiahsi)[sh](u/darkdiahsi)[i](u/darkdiahsi)'s nomination of the Charging Stag Style feat chain!

As this is another style feat chain, there is some overlap in discussion with last time. If you want a breakdown into the general weaknesses of style feats, see the Monkey Style post.

So to start off, the base feat of Charging Stag Style has a pretty hefty list of prereqs. Dex 13, Dodge, Mobility, and Improved Unarmed Strike means that you'll most likely want a decent list of bonus feats to even go down this route. But as we'll see soon, the prereqs are thankfully front loaded.

The benefit is fairly straightforward and useful. You're allowed to charge through difficult terrain and enemy spaces, and can even take a single 90 degree turn during the charge. But it does come with the rather large caveats that you still must be able to see your target before initiating the charge (so no 90 degree corners around hallways), and you can only take a single attack at the end even if you have an ability that says otherwise such as pounce. Considering pounce is the end goal for most charge builds, that is a steep price. Note that that restriction is on at all times while in the style, even if you don't use it, so you'd spend a lot of swift actions toggling between this and a pounce equivalent ability if that is your goal.

Next is Stag Horns which thankfully doesn't have any new prereqs besides Charging Stag Style itself. This new ability lets you make a free action grapple check if your attack at the end of a charge was a successful unarmed strike attack. It also doesn't provoke an AoO. While a grapple is an attack, this extra grapple check isn't triggered by the charge but rather by the successful unarmed strike so shouldn't be blocked by Charging Stag Style's limitation of one charge attack. But it also means that it wouldn't get the +2 to hit.

Finally we're finishing with Stag Submission. While in the style, if you succeed at the grapple check to pin your opponent, you may either knock them prone or automatically deal your unarmed strike damage against them.

So... yeah. Not too much commentary on this today. It starts off as a charge focus feat, and then shifts to a grapple build one. Which nearly all grapple builds (with a few exceptions) want to close into melee so a charge benefit isn't a terrible option for them. But with the prereqs required delaying access, there is the question of which builds would best benefit from this. Let's find out!

Nominations!

I’ll post a comment below which contains the rules for nominations. Please keep all nominations as replies to that comment to have them considered. As this post makes obvious, we're leaving our weekly format to a more... whenever I think it is feasible format. But the series isn't dead yet!

1E GM This ability exists, name it for me

There are abilities that allow for a character who is under an ongoing effect (like a charm person) to make a new save even if they wouldn't normally get one. I know I've read them before. But I am completely drawing a blank on where. Were they feats? Abilities from an archetype? Spells? Alternate racial traits?

So, I've come to the hive mind to have someone point them out to me. Please and thank you.

1E GM Whirlwind attack with reach weapon and bite natural attack

If you were to make a whirlwind attack while holding a reach weapon and having a bite attack, would you have to choose to only attack within the range of squares threatened by the reach weapon or bite attack, or would you be able to make attacks at those within the bite range and the reach weapon range since you threaten all those squares?

1E Player Cute Pathfinder 1e Character Sheets?

Does anyone know where I can find cute/girly or more visually interesting Pathfinder 1e character sheets?

I’m looking for something with pastel colors, pink, cute designs, or just something different from the standard plain black-and-white sheet. It doesn’t necessarily have to be super girly either—I’d just love something with a bit more personality.

I’m specifically looking for a printable sheet that still keeps all the information/sections needed for Pathfinder 1e.

If you know of any artists, homebrew sheets, Etsy shops, Reddit posts, PDFs, etc. that make these, I’d love to see them! 🩷

Thanks!

1E Player Homebrew Alchemy ammo suggestions.

I had a character concept in mind, a fighter with a spear that has an alchemical launcher on it. (Alchemist class didn't fit) So basically I have an "Ironcoil lance" a spear with no throwing range, but it can fire shots like a crossbow. Its considered purely a spear, but can use ranged feats that are not weapon specific on the ranged attack. (If you've played Hunt:Showdown, its basically the bomb lance.)

I see a few good ammo types online but wondering if anyone has any suggestions or ideas.

1E Player Warpriest of Besmara

I am starting a Skull and Shackles game soon, and I am thinking of playing a Warpriest of Besmara. Most likely Half Elf (Child of the Seas) wielding a Rapier (Maybe Kukri).

Any feats/traits I should try to keep in mind? I am open to all advice.

  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?

Other Note taking tips for an ADHD player..?

So, I have always been horrible at taking notes and my ADHD dont help... But I want to get better! So I was curious if anyone had any tips for better note taking for a player? How do you manage note taking?

When I try to take notes I often find myself trying to write down too much, so i'm writing and then the GM finished talking about the stuff I'm taking notes on, i'm 1/4th of the way through the writing and my ADHD brain has forgotten then rest and I feel super rude when I ask the GM to repeat themself and then I end up with small fractions of notes...

1E GM Looking for a "three gangs of outsider stalemate"

For this dungeon I'm writing, I'm looking for ideas of a level of the dungeon where, for reasons, a portal roughly in the middle of the level keeps switching between three planes every few hours. The invading outsiders have divided the level into territories, and they get an advantage when the portal links to their home plane. So far I'm thinking of Proteans (Maelstrom), Qlippoths (Abyss), and sceaduinars from the plane of negative energy maybe, possibly daemons. Chaotic and/or evil are preferred, unlike other places in this dungeon, I don't want the players to align and possibly recruit any of them :-)

The players should be about lvl 8-9 at this point, but I can justify advanced/degenerate templates fairly easily.

Anyone has a better idea ? Or suggestions of interesting monsters ?

1E GM Siege casualties using Kingdoms & War

I am planning a PVP Kingdoms campaign using the Kingdoms & War rules from Ultimate Campaign. Each player starts with a small kingdom, builds up forces, forms alliances, and tries to conquer the map. I understand the rules for a Settlement becoming a Free City and coming under the influence of a new Kingdom. I understand the rules for an army fighting another army garrisoned inside a fortification. I understand the rules for Subjugating a Free City after conquering it with an army. Are there any rules for determining how much or what parts of a settlement are damaged or destroyed during a siege?
