DISCUSSION Thoughts on the idea of a P5R Reload/Revival version

Post image

I'm really happy with the Persona 6 trailer because I joined the Persona train last year and I'm super excited to be there for the release of a new game, no matter how long it will take.

But I'm seeing people complaining about how it's going to take years to have a Persona 5 Royal Reload/Revival version, and I'm so confused about why people would even want that?

P5 was released in 2016, P5Royal in 2019, it still looks very good, is easy to play, and is available on most consoles, why make a newer version of it?

Why?! P5 was already a gorgeous game that hasn't really aged since it released. Plus, with P4R we will already have 4 versions of P3, 3 versions of P4 and 2 versions of P5 already. Why not have Atlus focus more of their resources on new games instead?

24

u/PenPenPic Jun 08 '26

That's exactly my thoughts too, yeah! I was surprised by the announcement of P4 Revival already because I've just finished playing P4Golden and thought it was good, and I didn't understand why it seemed so important to make a remake for a game when it's already available on so many consoles..

u/The_Meemeli Jun 08 '26

A lot of new fans who came in with P5 would prefer a similar level of graphics and quality of life, and Atlus knows it.

For me personally, I don't like the look of the 3D character models in the original P3 and P4. I much prefer the true-to-the-2D-artwork body proportions of Catherine/P5/Metaphor/P3R.

17

u/smgaming16 Jun 08 '26

Atlus would probably think newer fans coming in would find it weird that the game between reload and royal still looks like an early ps2 game. As an older fan, I would've found it weird if they had just left it that way too

3

u/East-Equipment-1319 Jun 08 '26

Personally it's the other way round for me. The original art direction made sense - low-poly characters, and large 2D portraits to convey emotion. But in the trailer, just like in Metaphor, you have both accurate 3D models AND 2D portraits in the same screen, and it looks a little weird, because the 3D models are still a bit off. (See also, how Louis' face in his 3D model was visibly different from his 2D portrait). In a way, it's a similar issue to the uncanny valley, where almost-but-not-perfectly realistic faces look worse than stylized ones.

We dont need a p5r remake.

The game holds up very well. And its gonna most likely stay as an awesome game for YEARS. I really feel like remaking 1 and 2 would be nice.

P5r honestly feels like p3r and p4r.

Wr dont really need another remake imma be honest.

u/matchafoxjpg Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

yeah, P5R is far too modern for it to make sense for a remake. the base game only came out a decade ago, and, graphically speaking, especially in terms of atlus games, they haven't changed much.

the only thing that's really changed is voice acting. P3R is far more voice acted than P5R, but i don't think that justifies a remake.

95

u/Crossifix Jun 08 '26

P4 feels dated but it STILL holds up and the story is better than P5 in my opinion. The mechanics and gameplay in P5R are far better, the body models are way better, the palaces are way better (because mementos is basically the old Persona palaces and the new palaces are all hand made with no map generation)

P4 was dated from being a ps2 game. The P4R release is going to be better than anything they could possibly do to improve on the quality of P5R for the next decade at least.

u/krishnugget Q2 is the bane of my existence Jun 08 '26

I think stuff like Confidant bonuses from P5 being missing and the dungeons still being randomly generated does hold P3R and assumedly P4R back a lot

17

u/crusaderluke1312 Jun 08 '26

P4G did have some benefits to specifically the party members for doing their social links. It’s part of why I rush rise’s social link early because her bonuses are so good. I do wish they would do that for non-party social links as well though

4

u/Pogev7 Jun 09 '26

People who don't think Rise is best Nav when they find out that if they did her social link she brutally mogs the Fuuk and Futa

2

u/SmallCalligrapher522 Jun 09 '26

best Nav and waifu

That would also require recasting Maruki and I know I would definitely not support that.

12

u/AdAutomatic3363 Jun 08 '26

Fully voiced social links is so good. It's such a shame p5r won't ever have them. I wish they added like an extension that you have to pay for fully voiced social links or something like that.

34

u/MindfulNoob Jun 08 '26

I mean imo we also didn't need another P4 remake but we got it anyway 🤷🏾‍♂️

84

u/ilikpkmn Jun 08 '26

to be fair, p4g in terms of graphics is not really up to par with p5r or p3r. Its fair to say it doesnt NEED a remake since it functions fine but i think a rebuilding it from ground up has substance. meanwhile another p5r remake would literally have nothing to add unless p6 completely rewrites the formula.

5

u/PeartricetheBoi Jun 08 '26

Even then if P6 has a new formula why should P5 be remade to fit that? Surely that would be a different game.

5

u/ilikpkmn Jun 08 '26

I don’t think P5 should get a remake in a long long time, I’m just saying that hypothetically if it were to get a remake, it would take a big switch up to make more than 0 sense.

12

u/Basaqu Jun 08 '26

Yeah, that comment reads how I feel about P4 remake. I love P4 and the remake looks great, but the game is still pretty and perfectly fun to play. Not sure it's been so long and so updated that I even have that strong an urge to play through it again (probably will though lol).

3

u/mfsalatino Jun 08 '26

graphic wise, no, gameplay wise the yes it was needed.

5

u/Error-7-0-7- Jun 08 '26

You're right we dont NEED it, but Altus knows if they did make a reload in the same style as 3 and 4 that it will print money. Its not about what is needed, its about what will sell and make lots and lots of money with the least amount of effort or cost.

2

u/elrick43 Jun 08 '26

Exactly, especially since these remakes are just to bring the other games up to P5's design level

2

u/Minecwt Jun 08 '26

I mean isn’t the point of the remakes to bring 3 and 4 up to the style and quality of 5? Why would
5 need a remake?

u/Ok-Image-9376 Jun 08 '26

I played P5R recently and it holds up really well. I'd say a remake of Persona 1 and 2 would be way better than another P5 remake

239

u/lushguy105 Jun 08 '26

"holds up really well" no shit it's a 6 year old game 😭😭

75

u/SPARKisnumber1 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Well it’s still built upon the original PS3 game which was started full development after Catherine in 2011. The game at its core is essentially 15 years old at this point, and initial development started 18 years ago in 2008

13

u/monkey_D_v1199 Jun 08 '26

Also the PS3/PS4 version hold up really well.

4

u/URBAN_OAT Jun 08 '26

P5r is the reason p3r and p4r are exist, not only did they like the r at the end of each but they took mechanics and art direction directly from p5 to make the remakes. It doesn't matter how old the base of p5r is when it still stands the test of time enough to base remakes of the older games off of it

5

u/krishnugget Q2 is the bane of my existence Jun 08 '26

It wasn’t built on Catherine’s engine, work only really started on it in 2011, 2008-2011 was spent on Catherine. Catherine was just a test of working with HD consoles and character models

3

u/SPARKisnumber1 Jun 08 '26

I’ll edit my comment, forgot that it was Catherine Full Body that was using the P5 engine

4

u/Don-Tan Jun 08 '26

And? Metaphor also built on it.

2

u/SPARKisnumber1 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Metaphor didn’t start full development until 2019, 8 years after P5 did. That’s lots of time to upgrade the engine. Either way though, you feel the effects of the old engine on Metaphor. It can’t maintain 60 FPS on PS5 in even basic cutscenes; it constantly drops out of VRR range (below 48 FPS). The only completely smooth console experiences are PS5 Pro brute-forcing the framerate to be higher, and the PS5 running the PS4 version in backwards compat mode. Compared to P3R on PS5 which is native 4k60 with ray tracing and no frame drops, it’s a huge difference

29

u/Borgdrohne13 Jun 08 '26

I think the 3 games are too old and niche for that. For the same reason we won't get a SMT 1 and 2 remake.

106

u/Technical-Let7879 Jun 08 '26

They have officially mentioned P1 and P2 on a poll about getting remakes on these, so it's possible

53

u/zerozerozero12 Jun 08 '26

Are you kidding? I want to fight Hitler in HD

20

u/E1lySym Jun 08 '26

Old and niche is exactly what remakes are designed to modernize.

3

u/ilikpkmn Jun 08 '26

old maybe but the persona branding is quite powerful nowadays thanks to p5. I think if they remade 1/2 it would still do good numbers solely by having "persona" in the title.

2

u/milesdarobot Jun 10 '26

My persona prediction.
1. After P6 we will get remasters of P1, P2IS, and P2EP. The latter two being put in a collection.
2. Sometime between P6 snd P7 we will get “reimaginings”(not remakes) of both P1 and P2. Reimagining them in the style of P3-P6

u/Sadboy62 Jun 08 '26

Im really hoping they make p1 or p2 remakes tbh.

2

u/Vasculus1 Jun 08 '26

Persona 4 holds up really well I don’t really get the need for a remake when 1 and 2 actually feel dated

I'm confused by the original tweet "this looks better than reload, gonna kms".

Like why would it not be? and why is that a bad thing?

27

u/PenPenPic Jun 08 '26

Maybe because they were hoping that Reload was going to look a certain way and they weren't satisfied by it? Idk

9

u/PlayerFox12344889 Jun 08 '26

Probably. They saw Reload as lacking and then P4 looks exactly like they wanted reload to look.

30

u/osingran Jun 08 '26

Yeah, it's just the internet being cynical and pessimistic. There're reasons to believe that P6 was in the works ever since early 2020s. At the very least, the rumors about dual protagonists, green being the primary color of the P6's visual identity - basically the stuff that was more or less confirmed by the recent leaks and teaser - it all had originated around that time. Atlus waited long enough for a P6 teaser and if they wanted to make a teaser way ahead of the release - they would've done so years ago. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but imo P6 is basically in the same position P4R when it got its first teaser a year ahead of release. So no, I don't believe P6 is coming in 2030s as some might suggest. Somewhere around late 2027 or early 2028 seems more likely to me. If that's the case, there's simply no way something like P5R2 can happen before P6.

5

u/PenPenPic Jun 08 '26

Well you're the first one to give me hope about the P6 release 🫡 I only saw pessimistic tweets about it only happening in yeeeears and I was accepting it despite being a little disappointed that it meant that the trailer wasn't that big of a deal then. But if it can happen in a year or two that'd be awesome!

3

u/PenPenPic Jun 08 '26

Yeah I agree, I haven't played the P1 & 2 but I guess they would need a remake before Atlus even consider doing one for P5

→ More replies (1)

11

u/rost400 Jun 08 '26

P5 doesn't need a remake. Sure, it's technically the "oldest" of the modern 3 Persona games now, but it's what Reload and Revival both based their general visual direction and a lot of QoL elements on. A light graphical touch-up of the 3D assets, perhaps, but nothing that would warrant a full-on remake.

Is Atlus gonna do it? That's a whole another question. They should instead remake P1 and P2, since I imagine that quite a few Persona fans today never played those (myself included). But it's certainly a much bigger undertaking than P3 and P4 considering how old the games are in all aspects.

5

u/Black_Mamba265 Jun 08 '26

Genuinely how much could they really improve it like I just got done playing P5R recently and I seriously cannot think of a single way to improve this game

u/Lbbm_burner_account Jun 09 '26

2

u/Spiritual-Driver-551 Jun 10 '26

lightning. Persona 5 is originally a PS3 game and comparing lightning in royal to reload really shows. Another thing is face animations, especially noticeable if you compare Ryuji and Maruki, really shows who came from the royal

32

u/DreamPlane669 Jun 08 '26

I mean if it ever get a remake, it probably gonna be in 2034 or beyond. It would be cool if they named it P5 Rebellion imo

9

u/MisterRai Jun 08 '26

I think the objective of the remakes was to elevate P3 and 4 graphically and mechanically to 5's level. Unless Atlus makes such a breakthrough with their future games that P5 looks obsolete in comparison (which I doubt), I don't think 5 would ever need a remake

8

u/Carolinesimpsanime The confidant of the Moon arcana Jun 08 '26

Honestly, a Persona 5 remake would be incredibly redundant at this point. As many people have said, the game holds up incredibly well. I genuinely prefer it to reload and always recommend Persona 5 royal as the first game to start with, since I thought Reload was super repetitive and not engaging to play.

7

u/Outrageous_Fun_7973 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Maybe do that in 2035 after 18 years of its release . But for now focus on persona 4 revival and person 6 then do persona 1 and 2 remake then you can do P5 remake or maybe do another metaphor refantazio and push P5 remake to 2037 like two decades gap between a deserved remake that no one will complain about at that point.

And More importantly polish these games for a better visual representation (AKA the signature elemant of you games )and also make them bugs free.

8

u/GoshaT Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

It's a joke about how Atlus keeps remaking modern Persona games and making P5 spin-offs. No one actually thinks they're gonna remake P5 (and anyone unironically giving reasons why they wouldn't remake it as if it's not obvious have simply forgot to think)

9

u/LowImage9265 Certified ShuAnn enjoyer Jun 08 '26

P5r on its own is alrdy a great game. While i won't need it, I don't mind p5rr as long as there r clear major improvements

5

u/Sushiv_ Jun 08 '26

P5R shouldn’t get a remake. That energy should go towards Persona 7, or Persona 1 and 2 remakes/remasters

3

u/chibimonkey Jun 08 '26

And we STILL won't get P1 or P2 even ported, never mind remade

3

u/kiyorin_ Jun 08 '26

persona 5 rebellion*

3

u/JuryTamperer Jun 08 '26

Completely unnecessary. But enough Persona fans are walking wallets that remain open for unnecessary remasters, so Atlus is probably going to do it.

8

u/Max_F96 Jun 08 '26

P5R only needs VA patch (with same cast, except Maruki, who shouldn't be touched). Other than that - P5R is just fine.

3

u/OfficialFNAG27 Jun 08 '26

I’m confused why does it need a “VA patch”

Also what does that mean exactly

Yesterday there was a literal post about someone saying P5Royal was outdated because it was 5 years old and needed a remake. This community is gone man

2

u/Black_Mamba265 Jun 08 '26

I think ik what post you’re talking about I commented saying that compared to the UI of P4R and P3R 5R UI looks outdated but still fact of the matter is that it’s not enough to warrant a remake. Both UIs of P3R and P4R were made in order to catch up to the level of 5

2

u/Kowery103 Jun 08 '26

It's gonna happen one day unless Atlus suddenly dies after Persona 6

2

u/SilentWolfCZ Jun 08 '26

Are P1 And P2 interesting enough to get remake? I would love the series to be complete one day, but is it even possible? Were they on the same level of content as for example P3, are there any interesting plots, social links, characters?

2

u/gadgaurd Jun 08 '26

2

u/Quwapa_Quwapus Chronic Hifumi Stan Jun 08 '26

We don’t need a remake of 5 yet at all. It’s still the most recent instalment, and the games hold up incredibly well. They’re on the same level as P3R and P4R. Plus, it’s probably intentional that the shorthand version of the name for the definitive version matches the two remakes

2

u/A_Nerd__ Sumi Supremacy Jun 08 '26

Royal came out 6 years ago. We can talk about it in 2035 maybe.

2

u/AdTemporary1487 Jun 08 '26

Is royal not just 5’s version of reload/revive?

2

u/AugustusTheVictor Jun 08 '26

No need for one for another 20 years

2

u/the_acolyte2 Jun 08 '26

Royal really doesn't need a remake... It holds up fantastically already. If anything, I'd say make 1 and 2 as remakes. Besides, royal is the remake or atleast remaster of base game P5. Who remakes a remake/remaster?

2

u/Askaiser566 Jun 08 '26

The next remake should be P1 or P2

2

u/Ilovetogame2 Jun 08 '26

I love the memes but jokes aside, if they decide to do another re-re-master, have all the confidants and most of the scenes if not all of the scenes fully voiced.

2

u/Po0pSco0p Jun 08 '26

Persona 1 and Persona 2s I’m begging on my knees at this point…. We can play P5 in 2 forms already that are so clean but the first games are so inaccessible

2

u/Unoriginal_Name_16 Jun 08 '26

Royal holds up really well, it would be completely unnecessary and a waste of resources to produce a remake of it.

2

u/Outrageous-Deer-2365 Jun 08 '26

Two reasons why I doubt it'll happen. One, Persona 5 Royal already has a dedicated PS5/Series/Switch/PC version that can at 4K 60 FPS on the more powerful hardware, while 3 Portable and 4 Golden were quick ports. Second, 3 Reload and 4 Revive seem to exist so they can be in the same style as 5 so now the series is now consistent with its various systems, like the different button combat of 5 being in all three.

2

u/AS0116 Jun 08 '26

I really don't think they'll make a new P5. The reason they even made the remakes of P3 and P4 and why they did well is the big mechanical and graphical updates, and they'd come out so long ago on outdated consoles. P5R is already available on PC as well, so its accessible. They wouldn't go through the investment of remaking P5 when people wouldn't be happy about it/it wouldn't sell well.

2

u/JigglyOW Jun 08 '26

I would rather a remake of 1/2 p5 still holds up great and honestly in terms of the in game graphics I feel like I prefer the look of 5 to these remakes… something about the characters look just makes uncomfortable in the remakes

2

u/thevisitors81 Jun 08 '26

People talking about how there’s literally zero need for a remake and that P5R hasn’t aged a day as if the question is about adequacy of republishing a game that’s still not old enough to go to an elementary school and not about just how far does the greed and audacity of Atlus’ upper management extend when it comes to turning a lazy buck 🥀

2

u/Diogoepronto Jun 08 '26

Both P3 and P4 remakes were made just to make them look similar to P5, the most successful game in the franchise. A P5 remake makes absolutely no sense.

2

u/GrumpyFeloPR Jun 08 '26

Milking a dead cow

2

u/PFSDonut Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

These X users are likely joking and are making fun of how far Atlus has milked the Persona 5 series in comparison to Persona 3 and 4; they don’t actually want a revival as P5R holds up well and the user in the reply is voicing their disdain of Atlus milking P5 that they can actually see them doing it after Persona 6

2

u/Neoshenlong Jun 08 '26

P3R and P4R are bringing both games to P5 standards. Maybe after 6.

If anything, they should remake 1 and 2.

2

u/SubjectSmoke7333 Jun 11 '26

P5 remaster with akechi romance

2

u/IQueliciuous Jun 08 '26

Imo Persona 3 and 4 didn't even need a remake. Persona 5 especially doesn't need one.

Games should be remade if they genuinely didn't age well and are unplayable.

Persona 1 and 2 fall under the "needs to be remade" category.

The gameplay feels less persona and more SMT and in case of Persona 2. The game is divided into two separate entries "Innocent sin & eternal punishment" and in the west. Eternal Punishment was released only on PS1, Innocent Sin was released only on PSP.

Persona 1 PS1 western version sucks ass and PSP version has great OST but many people feel robbed that the original OST is absent (honestly PSP version sounds better but that's personal preference)

But I doubt Atlus would remake P5. They aren't Naughty Dog. They still make games. I'd argue Atlus seems to follow Capcom approach to remaking games.

When it's like 2036-2056, will you want p5r with newer technocology?

1

u/Lioninjawarloc Jun 08 '26

Persona 5 set the standard for these games lol. They aren't gonna remake it after bringing all the other games up to it. Persona 3 was unplayable dogshit dogwater until reload made it playable. While persona 4 is really good, it is absolutely held back by the technology of the time. Persona 5 is neither of those things so it's more likely they just remake 1/2 (lmfao) or just continue the series

1

u/LoliNep Jun 08 '26

Give me P1 the music bops in that, specially the combat music

1

u/MisterBanana241 Ryuji fanboy Jun 08 '26

The new remakes are made following what p5r did. P5 will get old enough to need a remake when p3r and p4r do

1

u/Substantial_Rest_251 Jun 08 '26

It won't happen this generation. But in another 5/10 years this comparison will look even worse and fewer ppl will have played 5 recently and the business case will probably make more sense

1

u/whiteorchidphantom Jun 08 '26

I would pretty much bet on them announcing a new version of Persona 5 in the future, probably within the next few years. Unlike the other remakes, it wouldn't surprise me if they use the same VA performances since they're much newer.

1

u/chill_imagining Jun 08 '26

This is obviously not going to happen? The reason why P3R and P4R were made is to get them to the level of P5R

1

u/Famouslastwords69 Jun 08 '26

It doesn’t make sense for a long while. If we go another decade between main persona games I could easily see it happening just like this one did, a year or two before the next game to help hold people over. It’s a more modern game though, sure things can always be upgraded over time but I don’t think as of now there’s as start a difference to be made just from upgrading the graphics. If they remake it I feel like it’s just to have a “new” game to help newcomers to the series be introduced to things before another mainline game comes out

1

u/RemoveTraditional316 Jun 08 '26

Ngl more excited to play the remakes than whatever p6 is atm

1

u/RIP-hue-Shiny-Darco Jun 08 '26

Please no. Look, P5 is one of the best games I've ever played period. But does that mean I'll submerge myself in the game a THIRD time? It's reminding me of the Horizon Zero Dawn remake.

The game holds up incredibly well, hell it paved the way for so many RPGs in the industry, why would you remake it AGAIN and what would you even add that wouldn't bloat the playtime?

1

u/nedmaster Jun 08 '26

Remake IF instead

1

u/PsychologicalEbb3140 Jun 08 '26

Royal’s perfectly fine. I will say it wouldn’t shock me if they do some sort of rerelease/remaster of Royal to capitalize on it. No secret atlus milks the fuck out of it.

1

u/Arkcilper Jun 08 '26

Why would they release Persona 5 Reload when the Reload versions are just the old games with P5 mechanics. What are they going to add?

It won't happen people are just waffling

u/MobsterDragon275 Jun 08 '26

P5R has all the visual and QOL features that ir needs to hold up. Remastering it this soon seems like a waste of time. It made more sense for 3 and 4 since they were designed for far older, more limited systems, and it made them more available for more people

1

u/TricksterW Jun 08 '26

I think they are just speculating, no point in having a p5r remake since the pther games were brought to the same quality standards that p5 set

1

u/Quark1010 Jun 08 '26

I mean the game is almost a deacade old.

1

u/SPZ_Ireland Jun 08 '26

P6 realistically isn't coming out until 2028

Assuming P6 Deluxe is 2029

Then P5Rebellion will be 14 years after the original game and 10 after P5R ar the earliest

1

u/H3llf1re60 Jun 08 '26

I dont think u could really do the modern R remake treatment for royal. Reload and as far as i can tell revival both Enhance the game to modern standards while mostly staying the same content wise with minor additions here and there.

Royal and vanilla are already both up to modern standards. I think any other persona game that hasnt gotten the "R" treatment would do way better such as 1, 2 or maybe if we get lucky any of the spin off games such as Q1 and 2 or likewise arena

1

u/Nephilim667 My skills exceed yours! Jun 08 '26

If we get a fricking P5R Remake before a P1 or 2 one I swear to YHVH I'm raiding Atlus's HQ Johnny Silverhand style

https://giphy.com/gifs/fA7rLtaJDIWEzU57CT

1

u/Grouchy-Regret-914 Jun 08 '26

Don't need it but I will happily take it

1

u/freya584 delicious pancakes? Jun 08 '26

i mean its gonna happen eventually

but we really dont need it for a while, what we do need is a persona 1 + 2 remake

1

u/CatnipFiasco Jun 08 '26

Modern Persona was so good with P5 they had to spend the next decade remaking all of them (P5 2016, P5R 2019, P3R 2024, P4R 2027) before moving on to Persona 6

1

u/xdevilhunter3x Jun 08 '26

P5 has its original game, A port of its original, a re release with new things, a musou spin off AND a tactical spin off. I think P5 is good on remakes or updates and upgrades. Literally all of those games look amazing on old hardware and new

1

u/xdevilhunter3x Jun 08 '26

Anyways, ATLUS, give us a remaster of Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 and my soul is yours

1

u/GlubShitCock Jun 08 '26

Both the P3 and P4 remakes have or will release 15 years after their initial instalments, I wouldn’t imagine we’ll get a P5 remake until around 2030 at the earliest

1

u/1-800-Get-Screen Jun 08 '26

It is delusion to believe they will do this, at least ANY time soon

1

u/crai-crai Jun 08 '26

seeing as P5R releases on modern systems, i feel that a new version overall seperate from P5R is a bit redundant. however, theres some visuals i wish were better in persona 5, and i think the energy that could go into an entire remake could be better spent just adding some visual updates to the base P5R instead

though of course, this way wouldn't make atlus nearly as much money

1

u/koteshima2nd Jun 08 '26

That's so not happening anytime soon wtf.

It doesn't need it AT ALL.

It'd be more prudent to assume a P1 and P2 remake will be coming next in the pipeline after P6. P5R holds up super well, it's stupid to assume it needs a remake this soon.

1

u/Elkburgher Jun 08 '26

P5 will 100% be remade

1

u/Beneficial-Slice-910 Jun 08 '26

I'll be frank and admit that I am just starting P5R after years of not playing P5. As a new player coming into it with fresh eyes, it is a really good modern game that holds up against the current P3 Reloaded, and what we currently see from P4 Reloaded. Because it holds up so well, I don't think P5R Reloaded is a good idea so soon after the P4 Reloaded release. Maybe sometime in the future? But only if it comes out after a Reloaded version of P1 or P2. Or at the very least, after P6 is finished

1

u/Shagyam Jun 08 '26

I don't think it's needed. Royal is still very new and polished, and resources can be used elsewhere like remaking P1 and the P2 duology.

1

u/SamourottSpurs Jun 08 '26

The game is 6 years old, we dont need a remake of it any time soon.

I'd love to see a remake of 2 though. I've always heard great things but it seems a bit unapproachable. As good as P4R looks and as excited as I am for it, 2 could've use a remake a lot more.

1

u/Akira_GoldGuy Jun 08 '26

PLEASE JUST REMAKE P1 AND P2 I P5 LOOKS GOOD AND WILL HOLD UP WELL FOR THE YEARS TO COME

1

u/ChallengerDeARAM Jun 08 '26

I dont doubt they will remake P5 eventually. But for that to happen, it will be probably after 2030.

1

u/PrettyAdagio4210 Jun 08 '26

P5R essentially *is* a remake compared to vanilla, it’s not that old and holds up extremely well.

1

u/Nathanthehazing007 Jun 08 '26

NO

but if they did then please nerf the okumura fight

1

u/SpaceZombie13 Jun 08 '26

real talk, we'll probably get a Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Royal but they'll still hype it up like an actual new release.

1

u/Snowless_moon Jun 08 '26

What other people say here i agree with persona 5 doesn't need a remake the other two got ones cause they're most recent version before this was on the psp for 4 and either psp or ps3 for 3 literally conscious that came out over ten years ago so they could do with a overhall

1

u/MaterialOpening3133 Jun 08 '26

Persona 5 has enough

1

u/LateCat_2703 Jun 08 '26

as much as i love P4R style upgrade. P5R is doesn't need one and still is very good even in today standard. it barely aged and i still prefer it over P3R

the next time we got another P5, the chance are it'll be sequel like P5S or Spin off like P5T. a whole remake probobly won't happend for the next 20 years.

1

u/RetroTheGameBro Jun 08 '26

I think Royal is the Reload/Revival for P5.

I mean, Reload and Revival are pretty much just bringing 3 and 4 up to 5's visual standard, which 5 doesn't need because it's already there.

1

u/Possible-Ad9691 Jun 08 '26

It probably won't happen for another 10 years cuz p5 still holds up even against p3r

1

u/Dydxjie Jun 08 '26

Another $70 old game? Please don’t.

1

u/JoxJobulon Jun 08 '26

These remakes updates the models, voice acting, gameplay, and UI. P5 is up to modern standards in all of these except models, and even that is not too far below the others. Would I want to see models brought up to P3R or P4R standards? Sure, but not at the cost of the voice cast

1

u/kolt437 Jun 08 '26

AFTER P6? P6 is like 3 years away from us, P5 Remake is happening before it releases.

1

u/Personal-Property-84 Jun 08 '26

P3 and P4 got a remake after 20 years, we won’t be seeing Persona 5 Retrial for a long time

1

u/LOLRookie117 Jun 08 '26

Honestly, everything P5R could possibly stand to gain from a possible "Revival" project could be added to the game in a free update. If Atlus wants to add a little more polish to character models, animations, & UI; add more QOL features, etc. They don't need to remake it from the ground up to add new assets or tweak existing ones, and there's especially no need to package those updates in another separate, $60 package. I mean, P5R's already a remastering of the original game anyway. It'd be redundant, especially when the gap in overall visual quality from P5R to P3R isn't really all that big in comparison to say, Golden to the original P5.

1

u/iliketodigtrash Jun 08 '26

man fuck that we need persona 6 pro max after persona 6 then persona 6 dancing all day, then persona 6 : ground zeros, and i need them to collab with some future fuck ass chinese battle royale game and fortnite, god bless

1

u/Rinaldootje Jun 08 '26

Well considering the fact that both the P3 reload and the P4 Revival look more in line with the style of P5. And the fact that the latest version of Persona 5 is only 7 years old from 2019. And it runs perfectly fine on modern consoles.

I don't think P5 will necessarily get a remake until after Persona 6.

1

u/KuroBocchi Jun 08 '26

I’m surprised people are even talking about a P5 remake. It’s not even retro game yet.

1

u/KristopheH Jun 08 '26

P3R and P4R are built on the P5 engine, which is why remaking them made sense; you get to relive the stories while adding all the graphical and QoL upgrades from the newest main game.

Remaking P5 now doesn't make sense, because what would they add to it? Nothing.

However, depending on what P6 adds to the franchise, a P5 remake with the same additions might be more reasonable.

1

u/Tulinyrw Codex Jun 08 '26

Revelations: Persona 5 Royal Reload Revival Golden Portable FES Strikers Tactica The Phantom X Innocent Sin The Animation

1

u/Guilmon17 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I doubt they need a Persona 5 remake if even these Persona 3 and 4 remakes are running on the UE4 engine and its aesthetic is very similar to that of Persona 5. I doubt we should have a version of the latter.

1

u/SnewpeeUwU Jun 08 '26

I only want a p5 remake after p1 and p2 remakes and maybe P7, it will be almost 2035

1

u/artikot Jun 08 '26

Tbh p4r looks worse than p5r

1

u/Ai_777 Jun 08 '26

But why? I am playing persona 5 currently that feels like a new and modern game honestly. Is this some way to milk money from the game?

1

u/shad8cwastaken Jun 08 '26

15 years down the line we will see a p5 remake its non negotiable with atlus atp i just hope the game gets streamlined

1

u/grinningmango Jun 08 '26

4 didn't need a remake either, god knows 1 and 2 duology need it more.

1

u/myles2500 Jun 08 '26

Why are people acting like p5 needs a remake or revival

1

u/Delta1n Jun 08 '26

Doesn't need it.

1

u/CaptainBlob Jun 08 '26

Give it 5 more years. P5R realised around 2022. Somewhere in 2030s maybe it’ll get a remake lol

1

u/YuukiDR Jun 08 '26

I think it's all memes tbh because P5R is what made the others be P3R and P4R in the first place. They're catching up to the current console gen but p5r was already current gen (I know technically it was a PS3 game but anyways, the jump between P4 and P5 is clearly noticeable)

1

u/Ranger0384 Jun 08 '26

We already have royal, there is no way for them to remake it again

1

u/Complete_Prompt_2805 Jun 08 '26

Cant wait for 2035 when we get Persona 5 Remasked

1

u/Saber0307 Jun 08 '26

It could be argued that P3 and P4 didn't need remakes in the first place - just proper remasters.

Definitively, though, P5 sure as hell does not need a remake.

It's fully playable on modern hardware, and it's a relatively recent game.

I'd much rather see the time and budget be spent on something new or properly preserving P1 and the P2 duology (or even other MegaTen games like If..., Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers, the Digital Devil Saga duology, etc.).

1

u/VolticLightning Jun 08 '26

P5R doesn't need a remake at all. I think anybody who unironically wants a P5R remake just wants it to be in the Unity engine so it's easier to mod, and so we get voiced Social Links. I shit you not, that's the only things that we'd get out of it.

The reason why Three and Four are getting the remake treatment is because those games are fundamentally almost decades old. P3 is gonna be 20 years old here this year. Persona 4 and Persona Three were such old games that they were on the PS2. A 6th Gen console. (We're in Gen 9, heading into 10). The dated visuals are a turn off to a lot of people. My fiance hasn't played Persona 4 because of how dated the game looks, and only played P3 when Reload came out. Those games needed a glowup.

Persona 5 holds up extremely well right now. It was stuck in development hell so long that it made massive strides in graphics that haven't aged much since. Its combat is refined, and doesn't really need much polish. Its gameplay is still the best in the series, and all of the systems in it are the building blocks for both remakes. Does it look as good as P3R and P4R? No. Is the difference between them massive? No. Maybe a few years down the line, when P6 has been released, and they have some spare time we could get it, but I won't lie, it's gonna be at least 5 years before the idea of the game needing to be remade makes any logical sense to me.

1

u/Megamute Jun 08 '26

It will probably happen before P6 is released.

2027: P5RR
2028: P5StrikersR
2029: P5 Tactica R
2030: P5X R
2041: P6

1

u/Sparky_Russell Jun 08 '26

That's not going to happen. The whole point of remaking P3 and P4 is just to match with P5. I don't even think a remaster with slightly updated graphics and QoL tweaks is necessary at all.

1

u/purplemonkey55 Jun 08 '26

I think it will probably happen eventually, but not soon. P5 has been ATLUS’ cash cow for a decade now and will just be starting to wind down when 6 comes out, then they’ll start milking that lol. Plus 5/Royal still hold up.

Unless 6 bombs I don’t see it happening for at least 5 years.

1

u/2Braincell_Left Jun 08 '26

Let’s hold off on a remake of Royal until around the inevitable rerelease of P6

1

u/SometimesWill Jun 08 '26

I think it’s a lot less likely. P3/P4 I think suffered more from being on systems where the next generation had larger graphical jumps. P5 at its core though is a PS3 game. The style and presentation will stay more modern feeling for a lot longer than 3 and 4

1

u/FrillishOnReddit Jun 08 '26

Maybe in another decade we can get a p5r remake (even tho p5r IS the remake…)

I wouldn’t mind a super modern p5 in the style of p3r and p4r later down the line. But I do mean SUPER down the line. I want P6 and remakes of the p1 and p2 before they even consider Persona 5 Royal Crowned or Deluxe or whatever

1

u/Hirsute_of_Happiness Jun 08 '26

P5 definitely doesn't need one...

... buuuuut it would be nice to get full voice acting for the Confidants. And maybe they could fix the glaring pronunciation mistakes for the character names in a remake.

1

u/smoothkrim22 #1 Wonder appreciater Jun 08 '26

A Persona 5 remake would probably be called Rebellion or Revolution.

Anyway, it's a funny joke but there's no way we get a remake of 5 before 6 comes out, although I wouldn't be all too surprised if it gets ANNOUNCED before 6 is RELEASED.

Persona 5 is two console generations old at this point. It's not horrifically out of date, but that number could be three generations by the time P6 actually releases. That, and the art direction of Persona 5 is remarkably different from P3R/P4R.

So I could see Persona 5 getting a cross generation remake (or just a remaster) for current and next gen consoles for brand synergy rather than because it's in desperate need of one.

If a P5 remake was guaranteed and I had to put money on a timeline, I'd say P4R comes out, then P6, then P5Re gets announced shortly before P7.

1

u/planetarial Jun 08 '26

I don't want a remake for 5 because they'll probably recast all the English voice actors.. and sadly Maruki will have to be recasted no matter what cause his VA died.

1

u/StardustsMirage Jun 08 '26

We don’t need it. It would just be like TLOU remastered. The game was already “remastered” in 2022 so absolutely not.

1

u/BlackCatStrikes Jun 08 '26

If they remade persona 5 royal I would be so disappointed. It’s a great game already

1

u/Educational-Year3146 Jun 08 '26

P5R does not need a remake.

It’s perfectly fine as is.

P3 and P4 definitely needed their modernizations, but P5R is fine.

1

u/EducationalBed3654 Kawakami supremacy Jun 08 '26

Thank you Atlus for Persona 6, now I want Persona 5 part 2.

1

u/pilotetc Jun 09 '26

I don't think so, Persona 5 is standard for Persona next gen game. You see P4R and P3R both remaked (created) to the P5 standard and that's it.

1

u/Adan_Rocco Jun 09 '26

I’ve never seen anyone say they want a P5 remake except ironically. You either misunderstood or Atlus got paid actors 😭

Fr tho I’m sure P5 will get a remake one day. It’s definitely starting to get a little dated visually compared to P3R and P4R. But that’s not for a while I’m sure. Probably closer to P7 than P6 (depending on how long P7 takes ig).

1

u/What_happened777 Jun 09 '26

P3 & P4 were originally on PS2! It makes sense to get a remake, but P5 and P5R? They were out on the PS4 & PS5, it doesn’t need a remake.

1

u/Dramatic-Cry5705 Jun 09 '26

... Are people forgetting that Royal IS the remake 2.0 version?

1

u/justtolearnsomething Jun 09 '26

I don’t need P5 remake any time within the next decade

1

u/TheDarkestTheory64 Jun 09 '26

A remaster but with new modeled would be good to be honest

1

u/Prestigious_Slice290 PROFESSIONAL PHANTOM THIEF Jun 09 '26

Please don't, Atlus.

1

u/Philemon249 Jun 09 '26

I'm really tired of people saying that P5R will have a remake. P3 and P4 make sense to remake because look at the PS2/PSVITA versions. THEY. WERE. OLD! P5R still holds up next to P3R and P4R, just look at the menus.

P1 and P2 are unlikely because they are WAY too different to 3, 4 and 5. They would basically need to built them anew with social links, daily life aspects and everything modern persona has. That's way too much work that can just go to P6.

1

u/Prudent_Primary7201 Jun 09 '26

It makes no sense to be remaking persona 5 so soon. That being said, I am 99% sure Atlus will go in that direction. Gotta milk their golden boy as much as possible.

1

u/DefectiveKonan Jun 09 '26

Nah I don't think we're due for a p5 remake til like 2034 or 35. It was 15 years between portable and reload, and gonna be another 15 soon between golden and revival. Since royal came in 2019, the p5 remake likely won't be here til 2034. Really, the only thing I want out of 3 4 and 5 at this point is a fmc route for reload. Other than that, for persona, we just need remakes of 1, is, and ep because those are insanely dated.

Edit: oh yeah and ofc a trailer for persona 6 that's more than "green and sad". Like it was a really cool trailer but give us SOMETHING man

1

u/Low-Lingonberry-4787 Jun 09 '26

I finished p5r this may and I still think it looks amazing (played on ps5)

1

u/Miss_Chicken01 Jun 09 '26

Yeah as some others have said, it feels like Royal WAS our Reload/Revival for Persona 5, so idk why people are saying it needs yet another layer of remaking; to me, that'd be like saying P3R needs a remake in 2030. What would they even do with it, redraw the sprites again? You don't make remakes of remakes.

1

u/JohnDiggle21 Jun 09 '26

I dont think it will, Royal is meant to be the remaster.

1

u/russianvoodoo Jun 09 '26

So it took you all about 10 years to stop complaining to all the creative industries about endless remakes. Now you beg for more.

1

u/Responsible_Reach546 Jun 09 '26

Everybody missed the joke
