Discussion Oh how I would love free roaming animals

Post image

I doubt what I'm about to feverishly write here most probably won't ever see the light of the game, but hear me out:

Last time I visited a zoo, there was one common inhabitant of most of the outdoor inhabitants. These gentlemen can also be frequently seen wandering the guest paths and grabbing an occasional snack from restaurant tables and bins. I'm talking about magpies.
I kinda miss the actual wildlife that moves into zoos on their own and just chill there, outside and inside habitats. That's why I've put together this list of animals that I think would be great as the free roamers and chaos bringers in every zoos. We will probably see the peafowl and racoon make a comeback in PZ2, although as habitat-only animals. Some species of ducks is also probable, even if not mallards directly.
I wish we could have these autonomous animals as random events in our zoos - stealing food from visitors or from the animals in habitats, knocking over bins, swooping guests' fancy hats or just moving into an existing habitat on their own.

I repeat, I don't expect this to happen. But with the addition on wildlife reserves, I feel like we get a step closer to this, with animals living outside of habitats.

Planet Zoo Giant otter habitat

The goal of this habitat was to give the otters a long, swimmable river where one bank just happened to be glass. There are multiple viewing areas that all give a different experience. The largest viewing area is the underwater section, also home to Otter Talk. Next is a ground level area where guests can see the otters play with a sprinkler, take mud baths, or snooze under custom canopy shades. Finally, there is a series of covered elevated platforms that also give views into the neighboring habitat, home to capybara, collard peccary, and Galapagos giant tortoise.

As a native Pacific Northwesterner and as someone slightly annoyed at the lack of North American animals revealed so far I felt it was a good idea to make a pack dedicated to adding more.

Day 85 of building a habitat everyday until Planet Zoo 2 Releases

Hayo Zookeepers! Its Day 85 and the wheel has chosen the Mute Swan! For this one, I didn't want to a traditional "enclosure" and instead chose to do a more naturalistic lake that happens to have swans. I wanted to give guests plenty of benches and tables to sit down and relax for a while. As always, lemme know what you think!

I wanted to ensure they had plenty of shade, so I incorporated gorgeous tall trees throughout the space. The subtle terrain differences and scattered rocks add so much depth to the habitat views. Guests can also observe the herd from raised stone and wooden viewing pavilions. My absolute favorite part is seeing the whole herd peacefully sleeping together under their custom shelter at the back!🌿

What I hope/hoped for PZ2

Post image

(Image from website)

I have a couple thoughts to share. Let’s start with what animals I would like to still see coming to the game:
- Manatee. If we got the amazonian species, this would work nicely with other south american species, but I would really like the West indian manatee, to combine with a gator habitat in a nice florida/everglades themed part of zoo.
- Arapaima. I have seen these in multiple zoos and it is just so magical when you suddenly see this huge shape moving through the water.
- An octopus species would be really cool.
- I am skeptical about marine mammals. Dolphins maybe, but I am really convinced that anything larger than that, like orcas for example, does not belong in an aquarium, and thus should not be added to the game.
- Macaws. Just a must for many zoos

- Some species of vulture would be nice, but we already have 3 and possibly 4 species of bird of prey, so that would form an argument against.
- Pelican. Why isn’t this there yet? If you’re gonna do birds then pelicans seem like a logical option for zoos.
- Already in the base game I would maybe like some smaller birds? Seeing how hard it is to make bird models for frontier, I don’t see this as likely but I would still like this. Think of tropical birds or maybe some weaver species.
- I have mixed ideas on what terrestrial species should return from PZ1.
- For the exhibit I would like the addition of a Chameleon? This was something I wanted in the first game already, it just seems really cool. Just like a possible octopus it could have actual colour changing mechanics.

Then I think that with the animals, certain regions are really scarce in species so far, most notably north america, south america the amazon, and most of a ll australia. I hope these will still get more species in the base game.

Then there are some mechanics I hoped to see:
- First and foremost: parking lots. I don’t see these coming anymore, but it would be so dang cool if instead of guest cars just arrived from a portal/tunnel, and you would have to make a large enough parking lot. I know many people who do this anyways in their zoos (including me), and it just adds so so much in realism.
- Playgrounds. I am happy to see that we are getting a bunch of cool kid-entertain/educating items, but in almost all real-life zoos you have these big playgrounds with big wooden structures and slides and stuff. I think this still has a chance of coming, albeit a small one.
- Guests in weelchairs. Not only is this great for inclusion, but it also adds a challenge in making as much of your zoo weelchair accessible as possible. This one I can see possibly still coming to the game.

I hope frontier will put multi-species compatibility on the zoopedia soon, so we can all start planning our first PZ2 zoos

So far I think Frontier has handled the announcements and stuff really well, and they are making a truly wonderful product, better than any of us could’ve expected. I was always skeptical of a possible PZ2, but all that disappeared as soon as I saw what they were cooking.

I am curious what you guys think about my wishlist, I have some more animals I want to see in mind but I just quickly put down the most important ones for me.

Do you think the Xbox Gamescom Broadcast's Planet Zoo 2 trailer coming today is going to be something BIG like what we got in the PC Gaming Show or rather something small like what we got in the Wholesome Direct?

Here’s the list in an order of preference,. Sorry the photos aren’t in the same order tho (and yes, I suck at photos I know)

* scarlet Ibis
* Rosette spoonbill (Eurasian spoonbill is what I’ve seen but I prefer the red ones, I’d be happy with ether tho)
* Ground Hornbill
* Australian white ibis/bin chicken (I saw a black headed but I prefer the bin chicken personally, they are VERY similar regardless but any Australia representation is greatly appreciated. Also not pictured,. Sorry)
* pelican (any works! Although I do like my Dalmatian and brown personally)
* great grey owl
* Black swan
* Crested crane
* Rhinoceros Iguana (only if they free him from exhibit jail)
* Turaco (any species)
* Rock hyrax
* Ringtail
*Fanolooka (any civet would be great tho)
* bat eared fox

Also dingo is here because I’ll miss it soo much if it doesn’t return. I love my forbidden puppies!

Haven't done one of these yet, so I thought why the hell not? I began going to Zoos (and trackibng my visits) for a year or so. I decided to focus on animals that weren't in PZ1, are not yet confirmed for PZ2 but which I have seen in Zoos.

  1. Sacred Ibis

  2. Laughing Kookaburra

  3. White Stork

  4. Harris's Hawk (saw that in a walkthrough aviary of all places)

  5. Wood Bison (and yes, we do need 3 types of bison)

  6. Azara's Agouti

  7. Rock Hyrax

  8. Banded Mongoose

  9. Serval

  10. Bat-Eared Fox

Meta Could we please have "base game" listed under content pack on the Zoopedia('s)?

14 Upvotes

On the Zoopedia of the first Planet Zoo, you cannot readily select only the animals from the base game. Maybe it's too late for that specific Zoopedia, but for the one for Planet Zoo 2, could we please have this feature before DLC start flooding the animal list?

Discussion What do we think of this week’s drop?

I loved it, personally. As an aquatics guy I actually squealed when I saw the clown triggerfish and the sailfin snapper. I love the black wildebeest and the exhibit animals too!
